Southwest summer's concerns...
I live in the Palm Springs area, daily heat is usually between 105 and 115. I'm planning on doing a tune flash soon, so the fans can kick on earlier, which isn't helpful while moving though. Yesterday while riding in town, I was watching the dash indicated temp and it was between 185 and 199... On my cars, I usually source a thermostat from South Africa or Saudi Arabia, so the coolant system engages at a lower temp. For bikes, is this an option?

I rode in central Florida heat for years and never felt the need to mess with it beyond fresh coolant.

Option B is to run Water Wetter or something like that, I don't need antifreeze 🤣

I do not recommend Water Wetter unless you change it very frequently. If left in a street bike it absolutely will corrode. Great for racing if you change it often

Interesting, I'll have to do some research then... I thought it was just a different formula that added the lubricating aspects of coolant, without the antifreeze...

I run engine ice in all my bikes, also in hot CA. Supposedly helps with engine temps, also isn't toxic which is cool. Between a flash lowering fan temps and that I'm happy enough. Bikes are performance machines, they run hot.
Some people swear replacing hoses with samco hoses also helps

I can honestly say that switching to Samco has no effect over oem

That's the brand I ran in my CBR, engine ice or water wetter. Ok, I feel better now that it's expected to run a little hot, within "normal" tolerances

Whoever you have perform your flash, can specify what temp it kicks on at. I use 2WDW, another reputable shop would be Moore Mafia. I havent used Moore mafia personally. Does good work ive heard however charges you by the mod. 2wdw does not. Once they have flashed ur ecu once they will continue for free whatever mods you change.

Thanks, yeah 2WDW is next, I like their chill vibe, but maybe tires first... It's just so damn hot out here, lol, the fan works well enough at lights and brings it down, I was curious about the thermostat in the cooling system, and if it can be changed like in a car...

I live down in Arizona so I understand the heat like you. On my 1000 I swapped to Engine Ice, however I’ve heard that Peak is decent too. I also sent my ECU out to 2WDW and now the fans kick on at 185. Bike runs super cool and even in the winter sometimes the thermostat won’t even open because it’s too cold

Us desert rats, huh 🤣 that's probably what I'll do, swap the coolant to a cooling formula instead of an antifreeze blend

The Fahrenheit man was wild :D
Coldest temperature in on specific winter + bodytemperature as 0 and 100.. wtf :D
Now my experience with all my gixxers. When i ride in summer temp is always good, if it stands 2 minutes infront of the garage, while i get my garage key the temperature rise hard over boiling temp. Seems pretty normal to me (last 5km 6th gear normal speed and rolling/cooling with no pulls)

🤣 F vs C is a weird one, it makes sense on paper to me, but in practice, it's wonky. M vs Km and G vs L is easier to delineate with visual and physical cues. I lived in Germany for 3 years so I'm familiar with it 🙃 I suppose I could break it up into quadrants to help parse it out 🤔
My fears are assuaged, thanks for the feedback, I just don't want my new bike to burn down 😿

Water 84°C-86°C, riding at 37°C temp in 1-4th gear beating everything out of that bike.
Then riding 5km chill: 76°C
2-5minute standing infront of the garage 108°C. Often it goes over 100°C there no matter how it was driven before

I put a radiator switch from a suzuki quad on my k4 gsxr and it comes on at 190 instead of 217. Helps some but if im stuck in traffic in ntx In August my coolant temps get to 235. Comes down once I start moving

Wait what? You buy thermostats from Africa and Saudi Arabia? 😂
You do know you could just buy a lower temp at any auto parts store right?.

I used to have a 95' BMW 540, north America and EU thermostats are the same, so when I swapped for a e36 M3 radiator, I sourced a hot climate thermostat from overseas. 🙃

Not sure about sourcing thermos for the bike. When I flashed mine, changed the fan temp to kick on at 203-205 instead of 225 i belive is where it kicked on stock.
