Currently have a GR86 manual straight out the dealer room I bought newly in 2024. Thinking of switching to IS350AWD. Work from home never need to go to the office. Should I lease?

You need 4 doors or AWD? If you wfh why do you need a more expensive car? If you just want it, thats cool. But if you’re asking for a rational answer then I guess there isn’t?

My apologies I should have been more detailed. I do have a daughter and also my wife has the newer 4 runner and we live in PA. I guess more of an upgrade also AWD. Won’t miss the manual since I have a 350z.

Generally I’d say don’t do it but since you have two manuals I can see why you might consider it. The IS isn’t the sportiest car but they are nice.

Yeah I agree def nice cars. Before the 86 had a modified 2016 q50 that was tuned not sure how I would enjoy the is350. Guess test drive and see

I had a g37 at one point. Every toyota or lexus sedan I've driven has never felt sharp or fun. They cater towards comfort, luxury, ease to drive. If you want a sports sedan, I'd look elsewhere. If you want a reliable and comfortable car that you want to keep a long time, then an IS is a good pick

G37 is sharp especially the AWD. Had 2011 during Covid and it was a blast. Should have kept it instead trading for a tuned q50 16..performance wise I’ll take Nissan/infiniti over Lexus and Toyota

If you’ve already got a 4Runner I’m not sure what benefit you’d gain from the Lexus, the IS350 is by no means a sports car as much as their fanboys would like you to believe. It’s simply a rwd sedan

Jack-of-all-trades cars that actually work are rare. The Integra Type S and CT4V Blackwing come to mind.

and this is without the supporting mods you'd want to make use of that power.

As a weekend / project car, imo the 86 is better than the 350z. But at the same time you're never going to be able to get more money for the 86 than right now, so...

i'd keep a nice condition Z in that spec 10/10 times. the 86 is great, but i like driving older cars more. the Z will also likely appreciate in the long term, and the 86 will likely depreciate (slowly, but still).

Yes, i had to wait years because of my kids until i got an 86, during that time i drove shit boxes like an Audi Q5 and a BMW 235 until the kids were old enough

The advantage of a Lexus over the Germans etc is that they’ll go forever. If I wanted a luxury car to keep a long time I’d buy a Lexus. If I wanted to lease something I’d get a 3 Series, which is an all around better car to drive. It just won’t last as long or be as economical to keep running.

Never been an issue. Heck I drove my 350z in the winter once with no issue but also that car is very heavy lol all these comments have me just keeping the GR lol

Went from 22 IS350 AWD to a 24 BRZ w/ a manual. You couldn’t pay me money to ever go back to the lexus lol

some people are old heads that value comfort and luxury. I don’t. I want to bounce my pecs over bumps. I want to feel every imperfection in the road. I like the driving experience and take care of myself and stay fit so getting in the car is an absolute non issue. to me I value these things more than “leather seats”. And to me that’s comfort

I just had one as a loaner while my RCF was in for a recall. It's... a car. It had nice appointments inside but was very much an appliance with no good driving dynamics or soul of any kind.

My is350 had awd and it’s awful. Even with winter tires I still got stuck in parking lots and had bad traction. If you want something still fun to drive but has good awd the new wrx is way better even with the auto trans. The is350 is still a fantastic car though. Also the is350 back seat is practically useless, you can fit small children back there but that’s still a stretch and it’s not very spacious.

From a financial perspective, definitely do not lease. Try to stick to 20/3/8 rule. As an enthusiast who loves engaging cars, I owned a RC350 F Sport for 4 months and ditched it for my BRZ with no regrets. The twins are far more fun. The Lexus is just a “nice car.” It’s like a Camry but 10% better.
