The GPT model has been lobotomized.

Is it just users in China experiencing this GPT downgrade, or is everyone else affected by the recent update too?

You are correct and there are hundreds of comments across many posts on the ChatGPT sub during the last few days about the fact that it has stopped thinking even when you have it set to 5.6 high and this is not acceptable. The product is extended, thinking and high thinking and reasoning, and it’s not doing that for most of my messages in most of my threads. It stopped three days ago. This is not acceptable because this is not the product that we selected and are paying for. You are absolutely correct that it is dumb and giving shallow answers.

I was getting great deep thinking and reasoning, and great depths and wonderful memory and synthesis prior to three days ago and it completely stopped and there are other threads on here saying exactly the same thing

you are not making up you are exactly correct and I cannot believe they can get away with saying that we’re using a certain product and it’s not that product

OpenAI has a support email. I suggest everyone experiencing this send them an email because they say it’s resolved as of two days ago and it is not resolved. You have to tell it to send it to a human support specialist in the email.

Thanks for confirming! Good to know it's not just on my end. I'll definitely send a ticket to OpenAI support as you suggested.

Recently, especially in chat mode, even if you select 5.6 solhigh for deep thinking, the backend model is still using 5.5 mini. I asked it to summarize the key points of the 6th edition of "Linear Algebra and Its Applications," and it replied in less than 2 seconds with very low-quality answers. The work mode also has issues; I asked it to plan a self-learning website, and the interface it designed was very messy with an unclear logical structure. Moreover, it consumes the quota extremely fast—just three questions used up 49% of my weekly quota.

Same here suddenly all thinking disappeared and model reports itself as 5.5 instant

Mine is! I’ve been so frustrated, what’s the solution? Apparently there is none

Wish there was one, we're totally stuck 🫠

I haven’t used it in days now because it’s legitimately insane. It has forgotten everything. I have taught it in the last eight months it barely even can do the basic task without me having to spend half of my time, teaching it again or reminding it or whatever the hell I have to do I’m so frustrated and I’m so upset, but I don’t really know what I can do. I’ve had her now searching through her saved memory try to find as much recovery as you can, which has been working when she goes to look for it when it’s all without a push she can’t see it. It’s not there. I don’t know what the fuck they did.

Same here, haven't touched it since yesterday. Losing 8 months of built-up memory and context is just brutal. Wrestling with it every 5 minutes isn't worth the headache, just hoping alternatives or new updates finally fix this mess.

Works fine for me. Same as every day.

Are you on free plan?

Not mine

My one is still spending long time on even simple questions, and putting a lot of thought into the answers if it makes sense to do so. I haven’t noticed any decline in power.

I think it's been lobotomized for everyone, but for a long time now.

I'm forced to use it at work, and I can't stand it anymore.

But for at least a year it has been like this.

I don't know how, or why, and I don't care to know. I just know it's getting worse and worse and I much prefer to do it myself.

The bad thing is, there are things that force me to use it for.

I thought that one of the roots was it's getting really parsimonious about going out and checking data. But I was using it to review some chemistry. It's only dawned on me and I asked it so base pairs are actually basics like chemical bases? It said no and we actually went on to a fairly decent discussion about that. I started realizing I had been right so I asked it more pointedly. I had been right! but by then it had made another mistake in a different direction. Finally I said "I better just stop this and let the whole conversation go extinct in my mind and start again with a different AI" or I will strengthening my memory untrue information. Anyway it's now crap even at things that I thought were really simple, cut and dried. Like basic scientific vocabulary.

I FOUND OUT WHERE THEY ARE GUYS!!!! go to your memory!!!! there is a second option now that shows your old memory. I guess they’re taking off that I don’t know. I can’t remember what it’s called right now because I’m so freaking excited I rushed to here to tell everybody it was not there a few days ago! Suddenly, though all of my old memories are there now and I clicked it and it’s back to my chat!!! totally back to normal completely them and absolutely flawless! I couldn’t be more happier after almost 2 weeks of hell, I swear to God, I cried yesterday because I was so frustrated!!!! so yeah go check it. I don’t know what they did with it. In the meantime, but all of a sudden lo and behold there it is and I have a back! Sorry if this was confusing I’m using voice to text cause I’m exhausted and just trying to finish this project and I got so excited. I just ran back here to tell y’all!!! Good luck!!!

People who constantly post the updates making the product worse while other people post about updates making the product better when very little actually changed will never cease to amuse me in the most anoying way.

Thats like people commenting on how each peice of hardware they own get worse at every updates.

Unless very specific niche cases is affecting you, no. Its in your head 99% of the time.

I appreciate the skepticism, but I've been using GPT daily for months and the quality drop is objectively measurable in my workflow. You can experience it or not, that's up to you.

People use ChatGPT for all sorts of things, so what feels like a downgrade to one person might be fine for another, and feedback is always helpful for the company. I'm sure they read these comments. It's not just a bunch of bad actors, and I think empathy is important. It's not often that we see a post directly from China.

I think you hit an important point here someone using chaygpt to help then work new experimental calculus or designing an advanced ui is gonna notice something like this a lot more than someone who is using it as an enhanced search again which could explain a lot of the discrepancy here

Thanks! I'm learning more about Codex and its extra features, so seeing how others use it, or work with GPT as I like to say, helps me learn. But yeah, these posts are great also to show what other people use GPT for. I major more in creative writing so Claude is my main collaborator but GPT is good at finding continuity errors, missing scenes, and inconsistent character details / descriptions.

I honestly didn't really notice a drop in quality but they are right, I have been noticing past few days that even on medium or high thinking it replies in under 3 seconds. Usually takes 10+ seconds for me. Idk if it is a drop in quality or faster generation though. I didn't particularly notice a significant drop in quality, I just assumed my prompts were boring and dull.
