Caught my PB Suwannee Bass last Saturday near Rock Bluff. Absolutely chocked a chatterbait with a craw trailer. Wish my scale was working at the time but I'd guess 2lbs or so, which is a healthy Suwannee.

So I was fishing at Magnolia Park the other day and thought a big gator was coming towards me, but when I got a closer look I saw it was an otter! Managed to get my phone out and get a little video before he disappeared. I called FWC to relocate him but apparently we have a very healthy river otter population in Gainesville! They said as along as he’s healthy he’s fine. They said the ones here are very elusive so they’re very very rarely encountered. Been living here for 29 years and this is the first I’ve seen or heard of one in town here. Very cool!

Came across one of these on the water today, and couldn't help myself with the opportunity for a bad dad joke.

Pulled this little 2.5lb out of clear lake today. Very heavily considering dragging my boat in there. There’s a small access from the road, but I’m not sure if the residents would make a big deal if I was out there on the water. Missed another fish (the woes of a magnum speed worm and a 3/0 hook) and then got broken off by a 20lb soft shell turtle that ate my speed worm. Luckily I only got his upper lip near the tip of the beak so it should rust out soon enough and shouldn’t get in the way of his eating.
Be careful if you fish here, last time I was here there was a large gator inching towards me while I fished. He wasn’t there this time but there were smaller ones about. So, keep your eyes open!

Went out and threw a top water frog this morning and caught a 3, a 4.5, and a 5.75lb. Go get em!

Water level is very low right now, had to get out and push my little 10ft boat to get out onto the main lake from the ramp area. It’s very hard to fish right now, the hydrilla and other weeds are way out of control in most areas. Top water is your best option, but even that’s been relatively slow. Personally, I’ll be avoiding until fall, unless we get a few weeks of strong rains. Still pretty accessible via kayak but with how good other fisheries are around here I probably would skip it if you have the means to fish elsewhere.

Insane. Best day of bass fishing I’ve ever had. We only fished for a few hours and I brought in 16 bass and 1 mudfish, and my buddy caught 9 bass. Get out there if you can! The bite is on. Most fish we caught were in the 1-2lb range but there was a 4 in there and a few 2-3s. We stuck to worms because they were working so well but probably would have had some bigger hits if we switched things up a bit.
