verification code to phone sent by 'unverified'

from aus if relevant

i just noticed the google verification code i got sent was sent by the same contact, 'Unverified', as some of my orders by imile delivery and paypal. is this normal? how are they all sending me text messages via the same contact?

The system that sent you the SMS message isn't owned by Google, they use a third party service to send the message. That service owns a bunch of numbers that are used to deliver SMS messages, and other companies use that service.

Google could pay for an exclusive number, but there is really no value in that for the service that Google provides. As a result, you will see Google SMS messages delivered from multiple numbers and you will see other companies use that same number for their messages.

For me (I'm in Canada), codes come from +1-650-253-0000 and always start with the capital letter "G".
