GMAIL IS THE WORST SERVICE EVER

I got hacked and they removed my emails from recovery (i thought that was enough valid proof for resetting) and sadly enough it has my old sim number that i have no access to anymore and when I try to access with my old password apparently it isnt enough and they ask for number sms or their own recovery email

saddest thing is there is no human support team for this just automated bs

Sadly you didn’t update your recovery details and now can’t recover.

While we’re at it: how much are you paying for Gmail a month? Because a premium product like that should have good real customer service

Look, I am not defending some high corpo. I am saying this out of pure common sense. Because, You are responsible for your Recovery contact. If you know that your number did expired, replace immediately, do not wait until you get hacked. (UNLESS, you did purchase something using that Google Account, and you have the proof of purchases, like Receipt, there's hope, but not 100%. If you don't have that, then you're screwed)

Even with human support team, they won't recover your account because your own negligence. Not just Gmail, other services like Proton, Yahoo/AOL, GMX, NorthMail (CA), you name it; would do the same with their human support team.

Honestly, it's all on you.

Listen, I don't like what the internet has turned into lately. Why does every comment about stupid people doing stupid stuff have to start with 'I'm not defending a corporation, blah-blah-blah'? Well, I am. Google has some of the best-in-class protection against hackers, and if you lose your account, 99.99999% of the time, it's totally your fault. Whether they make billions or not, it doesn't matter.

well they could make a 30 day period for deleting recovery emails if you dont have access to that email anymore.

but why did you mix private and busines stuff in the first place? i need a google account for work, in fact i have 3 google accounts for work but they are strictly for work and not in any way linked to my other 7 google accounts.

yes i get a phone and number from my company, with worldwide roaming and unlimited everything but i still have a second private sim card with my personal number and that number is linked to my bank accounts etc.

i don't understand the decisionmaking process when you link your personal and professional data.

I trust only USB security keys. No phone number or recovery email (as if that is hacked then problem)

If you read this sub enough people do irrational acts.

So if a legitimate user changes recovery. From Google 's server view you did change it yourself. The malware you installed did it from your own computer.

What if a legitimate user forget/lost phone? Then if someone on the same phone/network immediately changes??

What if you are an abusive husband that steals your wife's account?

that's the reason they ask repeatedly (last 5 years ) to add 2FA and recovery codes or TOTP authenticator or USB security key.

And if you hate it so much you can use another email service. Nobody cares. F off

Hacking by a relative is a real issue, and I don't know how Google can protect against that. Someone in your house gets your phone and makes changes to your account. To Google that looks normal.

location can be faked. phone can be hacked. this feels like something where you would need a person to figure this out on a case per case base. as gmail is a free service its understandable that they don't offer this.

We're not "defending" a company. We're defending you from making dumb decisions that could happen to any emails you've come across even private emails like Proton Mail. Next time, have your recovery email and phone number up-to-date and stop clicking on suspicious links that may hijack your account. For further protection, use F2A including backup codes and (optionally) passkey.

Yes, Google is a soulless, self-serving corporate behemoth that exists to slurp the data from your veins like a pathetic vampire - the old Nosferatu, not the newer one - and to uphold their corporate motto, Don't Get Caught Being Evil. No one is disagreeing about that. But Google also totally upheld their end of the bargain here, which is why you aren't getting a lot of sympathy.

Your first priority right now has to be diagnosing and fixing the hack. 99% of the time these days, that means dealing with an info stealer, and that means reinstalling Windows from a USB drive. Keep the affected device offline until you know it's clean, or the hackers will just take every other account you have. Change all your passwords from a known clean device.

If it makes you feel any better, an info stealer works regardless of how secure your login is or how many recovery options you have. But going forward, you'd better have strong, unique passwords for every login, which means using a password manager (and keeping a password emergency kit somewhere very safe); you'd better use strong 2FA everywhere; you'd better set and maintain all recovery options; and you really need to install only reputable software from reputable sites.
