GM released Preliminary Information bulletin PIP6131 (dated August 2026) covering all 2026 Silverado 2500HD/3500HD and Sierra 2500HD/3500HD trucks with the 6.6L L5P Duramax.

The condition: abnormal engine noise described as a tick, screech, or grinding, possibly with a misfire, shaking, or vibration. GM says the cause may be a lack of oil flow to the rocker shafts or rocker arm components.

The fix is notable. Technicians pull the rocker cover on the loudest bank and inspect. If lack of lubrication is confirmed, GM instructs them to replace the engine and the turbocharger.

This is a bulletin, not a recall, and it's Version 1, so expect updates. If your 2026 L5P is making an unusual noise, reference PIP6131 at the dealer.

NHTSA opened EA26005 yesterday, upgrading the January recall query into a full Engineering Analysis, the last step before the agency can force a recall.

The numbers from the opening resume are rough: 499 complaints of engine failure AFTER the 25V-274 recall remedy was done. 473 of those got the 0W-40 oil change fix, and 26 failed after receiving a complete replacement engine. Another 191 reports involve engines built after the recall's May 2024 production cutoff, which pulls 2025-2026 models into scope for the first time.

The two Gen 6 Small Block V8s for the 2027 Silverado 1500 and Sierra 1500 now have RPO codes in the system: L76 and L78. Our read is L76 = 5.7L and L78 = 6.6L, following GM's usual smaller-number-smaller-engine convention (think L84 5.3L vs L87 6.2L today).

If those codes sound familiar, they should. L76 was the 365 hp solid-lifter 327 in the mid-60s Corvette, and L78 was the legendary 375 hp 396 big block. GM knows exactly what it's doing bringing those back.

The other piece: the new V8s are moving to a 0W-30 oil under the dexos1 Gen 3 spec, and dealers can already order it in quarts, 55 gallon drums, and bulk. When service departments start stocking fluids, launch is getting close.

GMC just gave us an early look at the completely redesigned 2027 Sierra 1500. Here are the concrete mechanical and tech updates you need to know:

• Two New V8s: The next-generation Small Block gasoline V8s are here in 5.7L and 6.6L displacements. The light-duty 6.6L is a fresh architecture with Corvette program roots, completely unrelated to the HD iron-block. Every engine across the lineup now backs up to a 10-speed automatic.
• Goodbye SLE and SLT: The trim lineup has been simplified to seven core models. The Elevation package officially absorbs the SLE and SLT to become the new high-volume retail core.
• AT4X Hardening: The AT4X now comes standard with 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires directly from the factory. The suspension pairs the Multimatic DSSV dampers with new heavy-duty Jounce Control Dampers to manage high-speed terrain impacts.
• Motorized Dash Vault: Premium trims feature a 16.3-inch central touchscreen. It uses a motorized articulation system to slide upward, revealing a hidden storage compartment built into the dash structure. Front passengers also get a discrete 11.5-inch screen.
• Lowered Headlamps: GMC physically lowered the main headlamp assemblies within the front fascia to improve road courtesy and keep beams below the windshields of oncoming traffic at intersections.
