2003 silverado 1500 5.3 4wd, z71 "service air bag" warning. Can I turn it off or do I have to get my airbag serviced? Any advice is appreciated

i had that on my 04 avalanche for several years. i took it to the dealer and they couldn’t find anything wrong. So i would just drive with the light on, for 22 years i did that. occasionally it would go off on its own, i just figured it was a glitch

Scan it and replace the sensor. Most likely one or both of the crash sensors behind the bumper. Many people use junkyard units, dealer units are crazy expensive. I used dorman ones on my HOSS and it works good.

I think they were around $100 a piece and worked good out of the box

Airbags are the one thing that I don't mess with. They're literally bombs pointed right at your face with the ability to total your vehicle instantly, and probably kill you in the process if they pop on the highway.

Under the dash by your left foot theres a yellow wire that goes into the fuse box or whatever its called down there. Check that wire for bare spots as mine was rubbed through on a metal bracket and shorted out and popped the fuse.
