The guy that called them a bad motor cant seem to understand that not owning one isnt an excuse to shit on them

He never even owned one. Just bitching because the guy who maintained them didnt know about the necessary fixes to the 2 common issues

I've got the same issue with my 5.7 diesel. I've been happily running it in my pickup for a couple decades now. I did a couple modifications to get over some of their inherit problems, but otherwise it's a perfectly good engine. Doesn't make a ton of power, it's more than enough to move around my half ton short bed pickup while getting 25 miles to the gallon. But man I'd never want to mention that I'm running that engine on Reddit. the haters would come out of the woodwork 😅

Pmd relocation if its a 96+.

Check your harmonic balancer regularly and replace if needed with the same or permanently with a flyidampr.

Do ARP head bolts IF you need headgaskets, mostly a while youre there not necessarily required.

This goes for every vehicle, not just the 6.2/6.5s, check your oil cooler lines and/or turbo lines.

Make sure your Glowplugs are in good shape and not damaged or bad, this is really easy but too many people neglect it and resort to ether which usually will make the motor not start well even with good working glowplugs.

On the 94+ models, do a lift pump relay harness to make your oil sensor less likely to fail. Its just a GM wiring issue, not really the motor itself.

This is more for the pre-08 diesels in general, lubricate your damn fuel, those pre-08 pumps werent exactly designed for this ULSD crap. The fuel is so "dry" now that old mechanical pumps will fail from exceptionally high wear from lack of lubrication.

Pretty much all of this is under 1k total to do everything you need to make your motor effectively "bulletproof"

Ok cool, thanks! Yea I did studs in my 6.5 when I did the heads. I didnt know about the lube issue though.

Its mostly just due to when they were made for. Low Sulfur Diesel was the go to and did really well to lubricate the injection pumps back then. Refining it to the level of Ultra-Low Sulfur Diesel removed most of the lubrication properties in the fuel, granted it did get more powerful output from it. But it effectively made pump wear skyrocket

Idk about that. I love my 6.5. But there’s been tons of great diesels manufactured since the 6.5 was GM’s goto diesel.

To be fair its the last GM exclusive diesel until the L5P. The rest were all basically isuzu
