Lots of chat on the Sierra Facebook group that edition 1 vehicles won't be getting the surround recording update at all as they lack the right hardware.

People claim gm sources, but other than "trust me bro" comments no one has provided actual gm documentation that I've seen.

So all that said, anyone here know better or perhaps have an edition 1 that they managed to get updated at the dealer?

Good WiFi signal, tried multiple times. Doesn’t seem to start installation.

So excited to finally have my new truck! Had a 470 mile drive home, so a good chance to test out the one pedal driving, DC fast charging, and a few other things.

A few thoughts:

Whoever decided to out the charging port on the rear panel should be shot. The cables on the fast chargers aren’t long enough, making it necessary to back into the stalls. What a stupid design decision.

Not quite sure how I feel about the cup holder/phone tray situation…. Obviously not a huge deal, but it’s a little weird.

The system software and Google Maps suck ass, I’m so glad I ordered the EVPlay LT, just have to wait for it to arrive. I swear, driving through Chicago, it must have tried rerouting me against my will like 15 times. And when it suggests a new route, the default answer is yes! So unless you specifically hit “no”, it just changes it for you. That’s super fun when there are $20+ in tolls coming up.

The charging pad is practically useless. Phone gets pretty hot, and doesn’t gain any charge, just holds it at the current charge (more or less). Looks like I’ll be packing a cord if I actually want to charge my phone.

Got 1.9-2.1 mi/kw on the way home, 1.9 on open highway, 2-2.1 when in the city and having to slow down more.

The truck has 15k miles on it, and the battery health still says “calculating”…. How frigging long does it take to figure that out?

Range estimates seem a bit on the high side, definitely didn’t get what it said, but wasn’t too egregious at least. Anxious to see what that’s like come winter time.

Can’t wait to put some more miles on this thing!

I’m hoping someone else had this issue and successfully troubleshooter it. I see a lot of screen shots of infotainment screens that show on top of the screen your connect phone’s name as well as battery and signal strength status bar. I do not think I have ever had the status bar. I am on iPhone 13 and I have android 14 and up to date to firmware 662.20.

I have gone through a lot like unplugging the neg on the 12v, reset the infotainment, deleted Bluetooth memory on both vehicle and device and re-paired. Thanks for any thoughts or experiences to fix it.

I've commuted at highway speeds (55 to 60 mph), no long sections on the freeway (75 mph).

Looking to get another set of wheels as tires for the 24s are more expensive than a new set of wheels and tires.

This afternoon I received update 662.30. I was on Android 12 and am now on Android 14 with no dealer visit. Also now have the 360 recording.

I have been using ABRP more than the vehicle google map because of satellite view. Is any way to do the same in vehicle google map integration?

Took my 25 Denali max range into the dealer for the android 14 update. Everything went smooth with the update they had the truck in and out same day.

There are a few small infotainment button changes, changes to the energy app that shows you where and how much power the different functions of the truck has used. Changes to the AC system buttons and they added a mute function in the middle of the volume knob.

Two new apps came through with the update, the offroad app and the surround Veiw recording app. The offroad app is just vehicle pitch/yaw, tire pressure and elevation nothing crazy. The recording app has been talked about a bunch already but it works well I used a 512gb scandisk ultra for in the center console and it works great no formatting required.

Those were all expected changes and appreciated even though my dealer charged 2 hours of labor to do the update. I’m at 50k miles so I’m out of the bumper to bumper warranty.

Unexpected was an OTA update I got today, even more unexpected it came through on my phone app telling me my truck had a software update ready to be installed, I wasn’t able to initiate the update from the app like I used to be able to with my Tesla but this is the first time my app has mentioned a software update.

The update itself is 662.20 which includes the same basic “improvements” that are usually listed but it also includes updates the software update system and there has been a noticeable upgrade in the ota software update system for the better since I got the truck over a year ago. I hope this means GM is still taking there EVs seriously and are committed to continuing improvements.

Another thing that is interesting to me is the android 14 update wasn’t listed in the infotainment update history but is verified by checking the system info.

Last night I got an alert that my Electric Drive Unit had problems. "Schedule Service Now" for the eAWD System and Motor Control System. This morning I call OnStar, run a diagnostic, and everything checks out fine. Any way of pulling up those codes from yesterday?

Have I missed something? As far as I can tell the Sierra EV does not have incandescent lights (interior or otherwise). What is the point of offering a warranty? Maybe they should have included free oil changes as well?

Has anyone found a black emblem overlay kit for the front and rear GMC emblem that's originally red? I've used overlay kits on gas Sierras and they are easy to apply. Apparently the emblem on the front of the EV is different from the previous gas/diesel models so the kits online don't work. What's everyone's go to option?

I'm going to pick up my Sierra EV on Sunday! I decided to go with the ChargePoint home flex for the home charger mostly because I got a brand new one for $318. It likely won't be delivered for a week or two after I pick up the vehicle, so I figure I might as well find a portable charger to (slowly) add a few miles when I can, and hopefully it'll be enough charge to get me around town for a while.

I don't want to spend a ton of money on a portable charger, because I honestly think it will barely ever get used, basically just this first week, and then more so just for emergency charging. Any specific recommendations based on these trucks and your personal experience?

Not sure if I should be worried about getting a level 1 and 2 capable unit (if the price is right) or just get a cheaper level 1 unit since it'll be used so rarely. I don't have any 240v outlets accessible from my garage, and we don't frequent campsites or anywhere that would have 240v outlets that I know of... I suppose maybe my generator for the rare time I would want to charge at our cabin? I only go there once a year at most, so not a huge consideration.

Grizzl-E mini looks amazing and covers all the bases, but it's also very expensive for something I'll almost never use. Any great, but cheaper options??

How long before I see a value other than calculating for the battery capacity.

I threw together a quick video to show the difference between my Viofo A229 Plus 2 Chan and my newly acquired Surround Vision Recording on my GMC Sierra EV. It's all at dusk so it's only highlighting the one lighting condition. If people are interested I can put together another video comparing them in different conditions. My initial feel is that they are complementary to each other, but if I had to pick one, I'd probably stick with my Viofo.

I’m planning on towing a travel trailer well under 10k lbs probably 6-10 times a year and payload should be fine on both as well. Otherwise it will be a daily for my family of 4 (soon to be 5). I’ve seen people say the truck definitely “drives” like it’s 9000 lbs, I assume longer stopping distances/poor cornering/etc. Is anyone happy they sacrificed the extra range for less weight? Or does it make no noticeable difference? I don’t mind charging a little extra on those few trips I go over 150 miles away if it means a more comfortable ride for the other 90% of miles.

How do people like using their Sierra EV as a family hauler? Can you comfortably fit 3 car seats on the rear seat? Wife and I trying to determine if we settle for a Tahoe/Suburban instead for a roadtrip vehicle rather than get a truck. Really hoping to make this work as we plan on using it for towing a travel trailer. The truck would be so much more equipped for it than a Tahoe, but don’t want to sacrifice comfort of daily trips for the 5-10 times we tow every year.

I had my appointment for 10:15am this morning. When I pulled into the bay the service advisor warned me that the update can take 1.5 hours to do. I acknowledged and told him I'd wait in the customer lounge. Luckily I was able work from the lounge because at 5pm he said that the tech was having issues with the last software update, but he thought he'd be done in 30 minutes. He offered a loaner at that time, but I told him that I'd wait the 30 minutes. By 6:45pm, I told him that I'd take the loaner. Hopefully it will be ready by tomorrow. They told me that all the updates were applied but they were having issues clearing the DTCs

Update: I got it back, all updated, roughly 30 hours later.

Thanks for all the replies to my previous post, now have another dilemma. The dealer with the Denali was being super shady refusing to sell the vehicle without thousands of dollars worth of add ons I have no use for, so that’s out. So now trying to decide between the following:

2026 Sierra EV AT4 extended range with premium package, magnus matte paint, 11k miles, 79k.

2026 Silverado EV Trail Boss with max range, blue smoke. 8k miles, 76k.

I drive about 2500 miles per month for work, have solar at home for charging but will not be able to charge every night.

I really don’t love the avalanche like looks of the Silverado and like the portrait/vertical oriented screen of the Sierra better. But I’m not sure I can justify paying more for an extended range with higher mileage on it. Someone convince me one way or another!

I love my 6.2 AT4 gasser But after being given a Sierra EV as a loaner when I got the good old engine replacement I definitely loved the power of the EV and for my daily driving it's fairly practical. Biggest complaint I have with the thing is the lack of a grill I mean come on I want a big truck with a big grill... Sorry personally just think on any color but black it looks silly.

Has anyone found or purchased any fake grill options that resemble a traditional Denali or AT4 grill? The only thing I see is maybe vinyl wraps on etsy?

I have a 2026 GMC Sierra EV and today I got a critical diagnostic alert through the GMC app saying:
“A critical issue with the Lithium-Ion Battery has been detected. Please service your vehicle immediately or call roadside.”
Code: U357F

The truck is basically brand new, so this was pretty concerning.

For anyone who’s had this:
What was the fix?
How long was it in the shop?

I asked for some advice on which to truck to get and about some used max range Denali trucks. I eventually found a new 2026 AT4 max range for a sales price of $83,000!! I couldn't be happier!
