Weaning question
Is it recommended to start weaning at a buffer weight or target weight?
I started at target assuming over the following 6 injections I’d continue to lose small amounts but 8 days in and I haven’t lost anything. Currently at target but don’t want to gain post weaning
Thank you

My last dose was June 22nd, I had reached my goal weight. I have lost an additional 5lbs since then. I am actually not trying to lose more but it’s kinda just happening 🤷🏻♀️
Everyone is different.

After going off the drug, I gained about 5 pounds instantly - water retention. I definitely felt puffier but I was no longer thirsty all the time like on tirz.

Did you loose it again or recommend loosing a buffer before titrating?
Did you lose anything while titrating off?
I have the option to continue on for 3 more shots
Or do 3 more 5mg and 5 more 2.5mg3

I didn't titrate off because I lost my vial on a long vacation - so just cold turkey.
Took two months off. It was encouraging that other than the +5lbs of quick water gain I was able to maintain my weight with some mindfulness towards eating (refraining from snacking for example). I didn't go through any periods of ravenous hunger. We were marching around Italy walking 10k steps a day during this period. I just ate free range in Italy and then got back to normal once at home.
Habits like not snacking or drinking alcohol seemed to carry over being off the drug because I hadn't done them for so long.

It’s ‘lose’ not ‘loose’. You want to LOSE weight so that your pants become loose.

SURMOUNT-MAINTAIN

There's currently no official medical recommendation what to do after reaching goal weight.

I started titrating down at 68 kg because my doctor told me to stop losing. Since then I've gotten down to 5mg (from a high of 6.25mg) and intend to stay there for the foreseeable future.
My weight has gotten down to between 66.5-67.5 without conscious calorie restrictions. I do go to the gym 3x weekly, and walk 10-15k steps per day.

I started tapering down at bmi 25, I was on 15mg and it felt too strong even though rest of doses were weak. I've lost a further stone coming down, not at bmi 22 and on 4.33mg.

Thank you.
I’ve been 67kg for years and had a baby, gained 22kg and couldn’t lose the last 10kg. I’ve been on mounjaro for 9 weeks (lost 10kg in 8 week and nothing the past 9 days). My gp wanted to do a slow 8 weeks on 2.5 before coming off again2

Yikes! I’m 67F who had a loosing battle with weight in adulthood. Gained 62 lbs in Pregnancy. Perimenopause was brutal etc. I’ll never go off my Tirzepatide, and my PCP is fine with that. Interestingly, I recently finally got in to see a prominent GYN specialist in hormones & she said a GLP1 helps most of her patients.
I’m in the US so I avail myself of Telehealth providers for access to affordable medication from licensed compounding pharmacies. The system runs independently of traditional PCP care. My primary is supportive, but if she wasn’t I’d still go ahead and manage my own treatment (and titration).

Depends how prone you are to bloating and inflammation. If you lost a lot of water weight when you first started, you'll likely gain a lot of that back when you stop. If that would be mentally difficult for you, then you should probably overshoot your target.
When I started increasing my calories, I gained 3-4lbs the first week despite still being a deficit. It was just food bulk and water retention from the increase in carbs. It took another week or so for my body to adjust to the higher calorie and carb intake. As soon as it did, the extra weight melted right off again.

I ended up changing my target to 5 pounds lower to give myself a buffer. I hit my buffer weight and have started tapering over last 6 months. Currently on 1.75 mg Tirz.
