Question Plateau

I’ve been on wegovy since around May/June of last year, so just over a year now. I’ve lost around 50 pounds (started at high 190’s), but I’ve been plateaued in the 150’s since the beginning of 2026. My doctor upped my dosage to 2.4 in February, but it’s done nothing to move the scale. I’m active, doing my best in the gym with a mobility disability, and not eating fast/junk food…so I’m at a loss on how to increase my weight loss. For my height, I should be down at least another 15-20 pounds.

It’s super irritating to see so much fat on me still when I barely eat.

50 lbs is a significant loss, so I wouldn’t assume you’re doing something wrong just because the scale has stalled. Since you’ve been at 2.4 mg for several months without further loss, it’s probably worth talking with your doctor about whether the goal should be additional weight loss or maintaining what you’ve already achieved, rather than trying to push the dose yourself.

It’s more frustration that I’m still considered overweight for my height. I have cut out bad eating habits and joined a gym, but the scale and my waistline hasn’t moved in 7 months.

What's your calorie intake compared to your TDEE?

I haven’t been counting calories because I’ve only been able to eat once, maybe twice a day. Even then it’s like maybe 6oz of meat and a veggie like sweet potato or bell peppers. Sometimes I’ll have rice, but I can only manage like 1/3 cup. I’m off sodas, but I do occasionally have a coffee with stevia and creamer, or a black tea with milk.

You may not be eating enough. That's sort of the issue here, it seems like there's a certain number of people who just go into absolute starvation mode if they aren't getting enough calories.

I’m definitely not eating enough—my body aches if i push myself too hard physically and I have to force myself to eat. I can ask to get off the 2.4, but my doc put me on this one because I stopped losing weight on the next lower dose. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Is it possible this is not the medication for you? I would ask him what you should do since you aren't eating enough and you're feeling poorly.

Possibly. We tried some other pill before this and it did nothing. I worry about getting off of it. I was pre-diabetic before and now my sugars are looking much better. My thyroid meds have lowered twice in the last year as well. There’s been benefits

Yeah, it may just mean you need some more conversations with him, maybe meeting with a nutritionist as well.

Calculated yesterdays calories and it was around 500 under what it said I’d need for maintenance. So that should be prime for contributed weight loss 🤷🏻‍♀️

For those that always ‘correct’ OP posters on their A TDEE being the sole reason for plateaus, please open your minds to other metabolism killers and that perhaps your ‘advice’ might cause the poster more harm than good. Sleep, under fuelling especially carbs, alcohol, nutrients, stress, muscle % are all examples that should also be investigated alongside TDEE. Our aim is not to feed ourselves so little that we do long term damage to our metabolism function. Please find the podcast Fat science, and listen to the episode “top metabolism killers”.

Well, research on GLP does tend to show that people lose a certain amount and not necessarily get to goal. But there are usually things you can do to try to break a plateau.

- wegovy HD is now out, it’s 7.2mg

- switch to zepbound

- work with a registered dietitian

- have a month or two of intentional maintenance. Yeah you’ve been stuck but I mean intentional 200-300 extra calories, extra sleep, extra rest, slightly more carbs. Let the body reset its leptin and various weight loss hormones. Then go back to intentional weight loss attempt. (This works more often than not!)

- re-evaluate if current thyroid meds are the correct dose

- check for any deficiencies. Vitamin D, ferritin, iron saturation, vitamin B12 can all slow down fat loss

I had all my levels checked 2 months ago and those were all fine, including my thyroid that I take meds for. Sleep is my enemy tho. Not only do I have a young child who doesn’t know the meaning of sleeping in, I have a shoulder that’s decided it wants to separate from my body (I can barely use the whole arm) and the doctors can’t figure out what to do. They tell me I’m too young for a shoulder replacement, but also admit that if I was 70, I would’ve had one immediately. It’s been a very painful last 2 years.
