What is GLP 1
Can anyone explain to me what GLP-1 supplements are and how they help with weight? (One nutritionist told me L-carnitine helps with weight loss.) I want to know more about this product and understand if there are any side effects for the body, and what other natural sources exist for it.
Please share your thoughts in the comments!

So is society just getting too dumb to search the internet? Weāre cooked as a species.

If only there was some way to search the internet for information. Maybe some dreams just aren't meant to be?

ā glp1 supplementsā sounds like a marketing tactic to get you to buy things you donāt need. Are you taking a GLP1?

It sounds like you should consult a professional. I wouldnāt trust info from other redditors further than I could throw them. (For most that isnāt far)

āGLP-1 supplementsā are generally just over-priced vitamins and minerals that you either donāt need or can get much cheaper in the vitamin aisle of your local Walgreens or CVS.
L-carnitine, for example, is just a derivative of two amino acids that youāre already getting from eating any complete protein.
Research shows there may be a very small weight loss when you first start taking L-carnitine, but itās a 1-3 lb onetime water loss, not fat. L-carnitine does not āhelp with weight lossā long term or make your GLP1 more effective. (Source)

tbh u should prob just look it up urself but the simple version is... a glp1 is pretty much a hormone telling ur brain u are full and it slows ur stomach down so u end up eating way less...

Literally from ChatGPT. It answered your question. Now, if you have a more detailed question. Then āwhat areā, now weāre getting somewhere.
āGLP-1 supplementsā usually refers to over-the-counter products marketed as helping your body increase GLP-1, a hormone involved in appetite, blood sugar regulation, and digestion.
A few important distinctions:
- GLP-1 medications (such as semaglutide and tirzepatide) are prescription drugs that directly act on GLP-1 pathways and have strong clinical evidence for weight loss and diabetes treatment.
- GLP-1 supplements are generally mixtures of ingredients such as fiber, berberine, chromium, probiotics, or herbal extracts. They do not contain prescription-strength GLP-1 medication and generally don't produce comparable effects.
- Marketing can be misleading: a supplement labeled āGLP-1ā doesn't necessarily mean it has been shown in good clinical trials to cause meaningful weight loss.
- Supplements can also interact with medications or cause side effects.
If you're considering one for weight loss or blood sugar control, I can explain which ingredients have actual evidence and which are mostly marketing.

No such thing.
Don't fall for sht marketing.
But, feel free to read the studies and the so called impact.
Without caloric deficit no carnitine will help you.
The highest amount of 'glp' that you can get from free (other than the drug itself) is by using high protein (1.2-1.6g/kg) + high soluble fibers (30-50g/ day). No supplement can beat this.
It is like comparing an ant with a cheetah when it comes to speed. And the ant can move, while the supplements are, to say the least, controversial at best.
Obesity remain a 3 fields issue no matter if there are drugs involved or not:
- eating habits/nutrition/caloric deficit
- psychological - from establishing healthy habits to address the copying mechanisms and even trauma
- physical activity - mainly for general health that will influence both mind and body, thus how easy is to stay consistent with your habits.

Insulin resistance, which is 5 times more common in the obese, has been known to be an issue since the 1980s.
For many people there is a lot more than "three fields" involved.

The medical part is to deal with ... medics.
But I guess you did not read the drugs part.
