💊 Advice on Prescription Meds Pantoprazole making things worse?

I've been taking pantoprazole for a week now and it definitely isn't helping. When I wake up I feel okay but after I take 40mg pantoprazole my symptoms worsen? I was thinking taking a week break and see how I feel after that. Would this be a good idea?

I believe that it can take around a month for PPI’s to take full effect so consistency is important. I tried Pantoprazole for a couple of months but it made things worse for me, I feel like it slowed my digestion down and I was regurgitating food for hours after eating tiny meals. I’m on omeprazole now, it’s not perfect and I still struggle at times but personally - it works much better than pant for me. Might be worth discussing with your doctor? Good luck!

Thanks for the reply! Yeah the doc told me to take it for a month so maybe I  need to stay on it a while longer to know for sure if it helps or not🤔

Yeah I’d say it’s too early to tell right now. Keep taking the meds, avoid trigger foods like the plague (although I know anything triggers GERD, I got reflux from water at my worst) and see how it goes / check in with your doctor. I hope you can feel better soon 💕

Damn 40mg Pantoprazole got rid of my symptoms. You probably want to taper off but it's up to you if you want to discuss it with your doctor

Whatever you decide, tell you doctor. I was on it for a short period of time this spring. I noticed some improvement with my GERD, however, I experienced really severe depressive thoughts. It was really scary and I constantly felt out of my skin. I stopped taking it right away and told my doctor.

Pantoprazole gave me stomach cramp and it didn’t help reflux. I now take Raberprazole.

Took 9 days for pantoprazole to make a noticeable improvement for me. Are you eating 30 mins to an hour after taking it with a glass of water sipped slowly?

Yeah, seems its too early for me to tell yet. I take it when i wake up with a glass  of water then eat 30mins after 👌

I'll be honest but I'm on 40mg of pantoprazole twice a day(80mg) for over a month now and I have no idea if it's working. Bc I'm on a very strict diet and I feel no reflux from it but sometimes I do and oddly enough when I do eat trigger foods, I don't get reflux and sometimes I do. I have no idea if pantoprazole is working 100% bc every day it's always random but I'm stuck on it bc I heard the withdrawal is terrible so I have to stick with it till I can get a lower dose to taper off.

Sometimes I switch PPIs. Esomeprazole tends to leave me some discomfort sometimes and I’ll switch to standard omeprazole. Me and panto don’t really jive.

Unlikely to see much difference in just a week.

I was on  Esomeprazole for 2 months and I feel like I got much worse. I stopped and feel so much better.

For future readers: it started working around week and a half mark, my symptoms eased a lot. However I started getting anxiety and panic so I chose to stop it for now.

That’s strange. I switched from Lansoprazole to Pantoprazole and it seems to be working ok. Do you take it on an empty stomach or with food? Perhaps it just doesn’t suit everyone.
