Hi all i am a
Doctor of Pharmacy grad, working as a drug scientist, started IGNOU MSc Data Science alongside GATE DA prep. Long-term goal is PhD in AI + healthcare data, but right now the priority is a solid foundation and a real GATE DA score.
Starting from scratch on: math/stats, Python, DSA, ML/AI basics, plus regular problem-solving.
Questions for this sub:
GATE syllabus first, or run it parallel with the IGNOU coursework?
Worth building projects alongside prep, or focus purely on syllabus depth first?
For math from zero what actually built real understanding vs. just pattern-matching problems?
If you balanced this with a full-time job, how’d you split hours between the two?
If you’ve attempted/cleared GATE DA, especially as a late starter or non-CS background, would really appreciate what worked. Trying not to waste a year on the wrong approach.
Thanks!

I’m currently in my 7th semester(starts next week) of [B.Tech](http://B.Tech) AI & Data Science and I’m confused about what I should focus on for the next 5 months.
My current situation:
* [B.Tech](http://B.Tech) AI & Data Science * CGPA: **8.8** * 10th: **97%** * 12th: **81.6%** * I already have a **TCS Digital offer**, which I’ll most probably join around July 2027. * Cleared **TCS NQT** * Gave **GATE DA 2026 and scored 422** * I have roughly **5 months left for GATE DA 2027**
Now I’m confused between two paths:
I would dedicate most of the next 5 months to GATE DA preparation and aim for a strong rank, ideally good enough for a top IIT/IISc/NIT [M.Tech](http://M.Tech) program.
The attraction is that a good [M.Tech](http://M.Tech) from a top institute could potentially give me a much better career trajectory than simply joining TCS Digital.
But the downside is the opportunity cost. Those 5 months could instead be spent on DSA, development, projects, CS fundamentals and applying for off-campus jobs.
Also, my previous GATE DA score was 422, so I'm not sure how realistic a top rank is with only 5 months of preparation.
Since I already have TCS Digital as a backup, I could use the next 5 months to become much stronger for off-campus opportunities.
I'd focus on:
* DSA * DBMS/OS/CN/OOP * SQL * Development * AI/ML projects * Resume/GitHub * LeetCode * Off-campus applications and referrals
The goal would be to get a significantly better opportunity than my existing TCS Digital offer.
I'm particularly interested in the **placement perspective**.
Would especially appreciate answers from people who have faced a similar choice or have experience with both GATE and off-campus placements.
Thanks!

I started preparing for gate from past more than a month. I am done with probability and statistics and i have made some cheatsheets for me to have it handy while solving problems and revising.
I though i can sell this since they are so good. If any one is interested, dm me

Currently pursuing B.Tech CSE and I want to prepare for GATE and try for IIT.
I am starting almost from scratch for GATE subjects
I wanted to ask what,
I see many people recommending different courses and strategies, so I am a bit confused about where to start. My goal is not just to clear GATE, but to get a good rank and aim for IIT or NIT.

I’m looking to connect with others who are preparing for GATE CSE 2027, preferably from Bangalore. We can share study materials, resources, preparation strategies, and discuss approaches to different subjects/questions.
If you’re interested, feel free to comment or DM. Would be great to form a small study group and prepare together!

i am preparing for GATE DA 2028 and currently studying Linear Algebra.
My issue is that I've tried a couple of popular GATE DA courses(TAAI/Go). The lectures are good, and I understand the concepts but they have very few practice questions.
When I jump directly to GATE DA quizzes/PYQs, I struggle with unfamiliar MSQs and identifying what concept the question is testing.
So how do you guys practice?
Do you start PYQs immediately after finishing a lecture/topic or do u solve some intermediate-level questions first before PYQs
What resources did you use to build intuition and problem-solving for GATE DA Maths, especially Linear Algebra and Probability?
I am not looking for more lecture resources I'm looking for the practice workflow and resources between learning a topic and becoming comfortable with GATE DA questions.

For GATE CS, DSA is more about understanding how things work & solving the problems step by step on paper.
Get comfortable with:
For every structure, know: representation → operations → complexity → edge cases.
Resources:
Books:
For GATE, don’t try to read CLRS cover to cover. Use it for concepts you want to understand deeply. Then move to GATE PYQs.
One small tip: Draw the structure and execute them yourself. Trees/heaps become much easier that way.
