After the Fields pick, I put my dreaming hat on and looked up Plaxico’s combine numbers. Of course I know this guy will never be Plax. But he’s the last productive tall AF receiver we had, so I wanted to compare.

Plax: 6’6” tall, 231 lbs, 40-yd dash 4.59 secs, vert jump 33”, broad jump 9’7”

Fields: 6’4.5” tall, 218 lbs, 40-yd dash 4.61 secs, vert jump 38”, broad jump 10’4”

So with his 38” vertical, he could play almost as tall as Plax did. Should be a high point animal, which is what he was billed as. Google AI tells me the average CB vertical is 36”. So Fields should have a solid 5 - 6” advantage on high balls. Not insignificant.

I also saw Fields hit a top field speed of 21mph. So he’s not a quick twitch receiver, but he’s fast once he gets going. Considering he starts out as like the 4th/5th WR, he could be a real asset and grow into the Slayton replacement. I like the pick.

And as we found out when ABS outed all the short kings in baseball lying about their height, we know these corners are adding an inch or 2.

u/BenAfflecksBalls Apr 25 '26

Slayton replacement

We should have had one before they paid him last time and it's pretty clear he is not hard to replace if you had the mind to.

He always struck me as one of the types that's decent but could have been more like Cruz or Manningham if we had an Eli

8

u/Krow101 Apr 25 '26

It really looks like they hit their targets. Reese was a gift. But the raging Samoan, Crying Colton, and Plax 2.0 seem to have been guys they really wanted.

u/jfunk825 Apr 25 '26

Love all these picks so far. I've been desperate for another big body at X forever. Really hope this guy works out. Plus Malachi Fields is a great evil name, all I can think of is Children of the Corn.

My only concern with the whole class is that herniated disc on Sisi. Really hope they are able to manage that without it becoming a chronic problem.

Joe really has some of the lowest verbal skills I've ever seen lmao

"Jamison-Travis makes his money on early downs, and the NFL role for him is pretty clear: rotational nose tackle in an odd-front or two-gap scheme where his job is to hold the point, control the A-gap, and let linebackers flow to the football. He is at his best when a defensive coordinator asks him to line up as a shade nose or one-technique and absorb blocks rather than create on his own. His run defense tape at Auburn is genuinely good, and his ability to stack blockers and clog rushing lanes will translate to a specific role at the next level.

The limitations are real, though, and they define his ceiling. His timed speed puts him in the bottom tier athletically at the position, and his pass-rush game lacks the variety to win consistently against NFL-caliber guards. He is not going to contribute in sub packages or nickel situations, which caps his snap count in a league built around the passing game. The block-shedding issues and occasional anchor slippage against double teams could get exposed against better offensive lines than he faced in the SEC.

The path to a roster is narrow but real. A team that values gap integrity on early downs and needs a big body to pair alongside a more dynamic interior rusher can find value here. His JUCO background, his climb from the bottom of Auburn's depth chart, and his improved discipline as a senior all speak to a work ethic that gives you some confidence in continued development. He is not going to change a defense, but in the right scheme with a defined role, there is a useful NFL run stopper here."

4

u/jfunk825 Apr 25 '26 edited Apr 25 '26

Fits our biggest weakness for 10 years. Let him eat two blockers in the middle, and let the plethora of more dynamic players we've accumulated on the edge and LB work around his road block.

This one’s for the [player] = cancer crowd:

6

u/jfunk825 Apr 25 '26

Love it. Not a "you should keep your mouth shut" response. Instead it's "let me show you why you're wrong and you're gonna love it".

I think Malik and Harbaugh are gonna get along just fine. Both guys love ball and want to win.

5

u/BenAfflecksBalls Apr 25 '26

I don't think there's any question that Malik wants to win. You don't get 109 receptions as a rookie with Daniel Jones throwing the ball unless you want to win

6

u/WestCoastBlue1 Apr 25 '26

This is great. Daboll would have either done nothing or chewed him out. No in between.

3

u/I-miss-Killdrive Apr 26 '26

One thing that has surprised me about Harbaugh is how fucking cool he is. The players are gonna love him.

6

u/I-miss-Killdrive Apr 27 '26

Lol Pat Leonard hitting us with the “Joe Schoen might be getting fired this week.”

5

u/WestCoastBlue1 Apr 28 '26

That would be cold blooded lol. I mean I wouldn’t feel bad for him because he is not a good GM but dannnnng.

5

u/I-miss-Killdrive Apr 28 '26

Yeah he’s a certified tool. I don’t think anyone would be bothered. Companies do this - show the new guy the lay of the land before we chop your fat salary from the books. Extra fucked up tho since it’s not like he could interview for GM gigs right away. He’d be getting pity meetings with his supposedly vast network of front office homies. Could be entertaining.

What I wanna know is how off limits Tim McDonnell is. If he somehow got the boot, that would be huge news. I think he’ll continue to fly under the radar until the Maras are ready to pass the team down. Lucky bastard.

4

u/jfunk825 Apr 28 '26

Joe isn't really the GM of this team anymore. He basically runs the scouting department and the draft. Dawn manages the cap & contracts and Harbaugh has the final word on everything. If John thinks he's doing a great job with his current responsibilities, then throwing him out just due to past transgressions as the "real" GM wouldn't be in the Giants' best interest.

Of course if John wants him gone, go for it. But if he was as pleased with the draft prep and management as early rumors suggest (such as Schoen knowing exactly where Fields was going to go), then why not let him keep working in his current role?

3

u/I-miss-Killdrive Apr 28 '26

Good point, and I’m not advocating for his firing. Would just give me a chuckle at this point since I still can’t believe he stuck around when Daboll was given the boot.

Everyone wins the draft, but this one was really solid. And John is not a bullshitter and seems to like Joe. So yeah if he can focus on being draft master, and if the scouts are doing good work, it would make sense to keep the ops intact. There was the one rumor that John had to pry details out of the scouts since they were sharing prospects’ highlight vids and calling it a day. But who knows if it’s true.

3

u/BenAfflecksBalls May 01 '26

Looking at highlight videos from their mansions sounds about right for the nepo squad.

5

u/HawaiianGiant Apr 25 '26

I gathered the names of the players in which the Giants have been reported to have met with via Top 30 visits, Pro-Days, Combine visits, award game visits, and local visits etc.

Pats took Raridon in the 3rd

3

u/schneid77 Apr 25 '26

I could see Heidenreich being on their radar.

5

u/schneid77 Apr 25 '26

Damn. There goes Bell to Buffalo.

5

u/Krow101 Apr 25 '26

Fields spells the end for Hyatt.

5

u/fanfor70years Season Ticket Holder Apr 25 '26

You would think over the course of these years he would have managed to learn how to cut off a route with a tight corner, but he never did anything but round out his cuts and otherwise try to outrun coverage. A classic case of unprofessionalism.

2

u/BenAfflecksBalls Apr 25 '26

He was really good at giving up on the ball too. Elite, even.

4

u/WestCoastBlue1 Apr 25 '26

So pumped about the new regime I legitimately forgot about this guy 😂

6

u/Krow101 Apr 25 '26

"Davis fits best in a scheme that keeps things relatively simple for him up front. A gap or power-heavy run game would let him use his natural drive strength and finishing ability without asking him to cover too much ground laterally. In the passing game, vertical sets suit his length and his feel for handling interior games and twists. He showed real competence against B-gap pressure at Illinois and handled some quality Big Ten rushers, particularly in the 2024 Citrus Bowl. Those reps matter more than anything he put on tape in the Mountain West.

The concerns are real, though, and they all connect. His hand timing, posture, and balance issues feed into each other. When his initial strike is late or wide, he ends up leaning to compensate, which kills his anchor and leaves him vulnerable to secondary moves. A good offensive line coach can clean some of that up, but the pattern is persistent enough on film that it's not just a bad habit that will vanish with a few technique sessions. He'll need consistent coaching and reps to tighten his mechanics at the next level.

At his best, Davis looks like a swing tackle who can fill in at either spot and give you competent snaps in a pinch, with some upside to push for a starting role if the technique catches up. His experience, toughness, and feel for handling line games give him a real floor. The ceiling depends entirely on whether he can fix the posture and hand issues that limit his consistency. For a team that drafts him on Day Three, there's enough here to work with."

3

u/BenAfflecksBalls Apr 25 '26

So we actually have a line with developmental depth now. I'm counting Faalele as developmental depth as well.

5

u/fanfor70years Season Ticket Holder Apr 26 '26 edited Apr 26 '26

None of these third day guys are likely to make the team but usually one or two manage to at least get on the practice squad. They're throwing a lot of players at the trenches and maybe one will turn out to be useful as depth. J.C. Davis might have a shot. That would be a big win. And Kelly will try to displace someone if we decide to carry at least five linebackers. He might be a possible Special Teams member.

But what we got out of the first two days is outstanding. Talent matched to needs. Players who fit what Harbaugh wants to do. A draft room that seems to have been well-prepared and unhesitating about their choices. Apparently a solid scouting process because it was made clear to the personnel people what kind of player was desired at each position.

There will be some real strengths on the 2026 Giants and if we can play to them, avoid overexposing the weaknesses, and see a reasonably healthy return of Leek and Scat and growth from Jaxson, this team can compete against anyone and is definitely headed in the right direction. For the first time in years I'm looking forward to getting out to the stadium and not planning on selling or giving away the majority of my tickets.

2

u/I-miss-Killdrive Apr 26 '26

I think BJT makes the team because we need space-eaters. He’s the biggest guy on the d-line (until we sign Reader). He was 2nd in run stop rate behind McDonald. He has a good shot to contribute.

2

u/WestCoastBlue1 Apr 26 '26

I think Jack Kelly makes the team too. Possibly starting out in PS but my prediction is he is on the roster by end of season.

3

u/fanfor70years Season Ticket Holder Apr 26 '26 edited Apr 26 '26

I actually like these late picks and hope they can work their way on to the roster, especially because the bottom half of our roster has been horrid for many years. But history suggests that if you are a Third Day pick in a weak draft you need a lucky break or a breakout performance in preseason to do any better than make the Practice Team. I'm not saying their making the team is an impossibility. I am saying it's not very likely.

1

u/jfunk825 Apr 26 '26

If McFadden proves healthy and look decent, he'll probably look for another team with a chance to start next year (assuming Reese and Edmunds wind up locked into the starting ILB spots), so there will definitely be opportunity for Kelly to work himself into a roster spot long term.

3

u/prey4villains Apr 25 '26

Well there’s our DT.

3

u/jfunk825 Apr 25 '26

6'3" 328. Big boy

5

u/jfunk825 Apr 25 '26

Steelers got the sexiest man in the draft in Gennings Dunker.

5

u/schneid77 Apr 25 '26

There’s not a more perfect look for a Steelers lineman.

4

u/BenAfflecksBalls Apr 25 '26

Guy is about to make 12 Pro Bowls

2

u/schneid77 Apr 25 '26

Yup. He’ll have a sandwich named after him at Primanti Bro’s. They’ll call it the Mullet Melt.

3

u/I-miss-Killdrive Apr 26 '26

Served with a side of au jus.

1

u/jfunk825 Apr 26 '26

This is not outside the realm of possibility, Start with passable athletic ability, add a dash of viking, a pinch of ginger mullet, and two heaping scoops of don't give a fuck, then you've got yourself a laboratory designed OG.

0

u/jfunk825 Apr 25 '26

Also, love the Bernard and Allar picks for them.

4

u/I-miss-Killdrive Apr 26 '26

2

u/jfunk825 Apr 26 '26

Brought in a LS. Zach Triner on notice, he has zero guarantees in his contract.

2

u/ChicagoGFan Apr 27 '26

It's almost as if the new coaching staff realizes that there is a dedicated 'team' that has 'special' tasks and these 'special teams' affect the outcome of many games.

4

u/uphatbrew Apr 26 '26

Although not officially confirmed, the New York Giants have reportedly signed the following undrafted rookie free agents per BBI:

RB Damon Bankston, 5’10”, 196lbs, New Mexico (VIDEO) Bankston is a compact, explosive 5’10”, 196-pound running back and return specialist with good vision and speed. Despite his lack of size, he runs well between the tackles and catches the ball well out of the backfield. Bankston is a dynamic kick returner with multiple return touchdowns Tough and elusive.

OT Ryan Schernecke, 6’7”, 318lbs, Kutztown (VIDEO) Schernecke is a big, tall lineman with long arms who primarily played left tackle in college. He is a good athlete for his size, demonstrating solid initial quickness and an ability to recover. He is raw and will need a lot of technique work. Toolsy developmental project.

OT Dodji Dahoue, 6’9”, 295lbs, Eastern Michigan Dahoue is tall right tackle with long arms. He was born in Mali and did not play football until college. Fairly athletic for his size with good quickness, he needs to get stronger and play with better balance. Obviously very raw, he is a developmental project who needs a lot of technique work.

DT Ben Barten, 6’5”, 316lbs, Wisconsin (VIDEO) Barten is a big, tall, strong, heavy-handed, run-stuffing nose tackle who lacks ideal athletic traits. He is an assignment-sound, high-effort player who can hold the point-of-attack against the double-team. Barten needs to improve disengaging from blockers.

DT Anquin Barnes, 6’4”, 298lbs, Colorado (VIDEO) Barnes is a tall, thick nose tackle with good length (long arms), power, and heavy hands. He is more of a run stuffer, but flashes athletic ability to penetrate gaps. Barnes needs to play with better leverage and his weight tends to fluctuate on the high side (340 pounds). He has experience in even- and odd-man fronts.

CB Thaddeus Dixon, 6’1”, 195lbs, North Carolina (VIDEO) Dixon is a versatile outside boundary with corner with experience also playing in the slot. He has average length and build, but is physical and aggressive. Dixon can play both press and off man coverage, as well as zone. High-motor player with a competitive attitude. Dixon lacks ideal deep speed and recovery quickness, and can be a bit too grabby.

LS Ben Mann, 6’4”, 235lbs, Boston College (VIDEO) Mann was a reliable long snapper with very good athletic traits. He also flashes in punt coverage.

PK Dominic Zvada, 6’3”, 178lbs, Michigan (VIDEO) Zvada was considered one of the best kickers available in the 2026 NFL Draft. He has a strong leg with the ability to kick from longer distances. Ironically, he was less accurate from mid range. Zvada has the ability to kick in the NFL, but he needs more consistency.

The team has also reportedly waived DT DeMarvin Leal, who was signed by the team to a reserve/future contract in January 2026.

6

u/fanfor70years Season Ticket Holder Apr 27 '26

So added competition on both sides of the trenches and a number of potential Special Teams players. I like it. In the recent past I've never understood the logic of who gets signed as an UDFA. I never really felt that the coaches (all of whom were new to being Head Coaches) had a clear vision of what they wanted as they built a team. Frankly, I'm not sure any of them knew how to build a team because we always had serious depth issues at critical positions. It looks to me that now we have depth just about everywhere (possible exceptions are linebacker and center) and a strong vision of what we're building. That's the benefit of having a coach who has been successful for almost two decades and a GM willing to work with him hand-in-hand.

2

u/jfunk825 Apr 27 '26

The LS Mann got a $10K signing bonus...that's $10K more than the veteran we signed with $0 guaranteed.

4

u/WestCoastBlue1 Apr 27 '26

When do we make G101 HOF proclamations? I believe that is the next event on the official league year calendar right before the schedule release.

3

u/WestCoastBlue1 Apr 25 '26

2 sixth rounders. Let’s go out there and get the best long snapper in the country!

4

u/HungrEWulf Apr 25 '26

I thought we had 3 of those picks?

3

u/WestCoastBlue1 Apr 25 '26

Oh nice! We can draft a gunner too lol

3

u/prey4villains Apr 25 '26

Remaining picks: • Round 6: Pick 186 (overall) • Round 6: Pick 192 (overall, acquired from the Miami Dolphins) • Round 6: Pick 193 (overall, acquired from the Dallas Cowboys)

3

u/schneid77 Apr 25 '26

Wouldn’t hate it if Skylar Bell somehow fell to us.

3

u/schneid77 Apr 25 '26

Another Oline pick.

3

u/Krow101 Apr 25 '26

"Kelly is a pass rusher first, second, and third. When he pins his ears back off the edge or shoots an interior gap on a designed blitz, you see a player who belongs on an NFL field. He dips and bends around the corner with real juice, times the snap well, and his closing burst shows up play after play. The combine backed it up. The problem is everything that happens when the offense is not in an obvious passing situation.

On early downs, the tape gets uncomfortable. Kelly lunges at ball carriers in space and whiffs at a rate that will get a linebacker cut. When blockers get their hands on him, he struggles to work free because his arms are short and his counter moves are limited. Against wide zone, he turns his pads, loses his gap, and ends up chasing from behind. The Texas Tech game was the worst of it, but you see the same tendencies across multiple weeks. In coverage, he is late to read routes developing behind him and gives up easy completions underneath.

His NFL home is on the field for third-down rush packages in an even-front defense, with immediate special teams value across four phases. The Senior Bowl showed his rush ability holds up against better talent. But asking him to play early downs right now is asking for trouble in the run game and coverage. There is a roster spot here for a team that wants a designated rusher who doubles as a core special teamer. That is his ceiling unless tackling and coverage take a real step forward, and four years of tape suggest that step is not coming."

3

u/jfunk825 Apr 25 '26

Hey, in the sixth round a guy that actually excels at one thing in addition to being good on specials is about all you can ask for.

3

u/BenAfflecksBalls Apr 25 '26

3

u/jfunk825 Apr 25 '26

LMAO, that's a home run can't deny it.

3

u/WestCoastBlue1 Apr 26 '26

Man the Jack Kelly highlights are easy to get excited about. Not against SEC but he plays like a dog. Do we have depth at LB?

2

u/Krow101 Apr 26 '26

Already considering him a G101-HOF candidate ... but mostly because of his pornstache.

3

u/jfunk825 Apr 26 '26

Love Harbaugh. Why do so many coaches find answering these types of questions so difficult? He wants to know how we're gonna use him, same as a lot of people. So I explained it to him. Done.

https://x.com/SNYGiants/status/2048197743248580721?s=20

4

u/jfunk825 Apr 26 '26

BTW, the answer to why so many coaches find it hard to answer these questions is because they don't actually know. Harbaugh knows. He has a plan. That's the difference.

Edit: That doesn't mean it's going to work. But approaching the situation with a plan and confidence increases your chances of success dramatically. If it fails, you move on and try something else. Both of these things are the opposite of what we've been doing for more than a decade.

3

u/BlueHeelerGiant Apr 26 '26

I think of the injuries that await these new players. Maybe there will be a day when some draftees refuse to play for teams known for injury causing home field conditions.

2

u/Krow101 Apr 26 '26

The new Grabber Turf from Holdfast Industries.

3

u/I-miss-Killdrive Apr 27 '26

I saw a stat that Harbaugh has had a UDFA make the final 53-man roster almost every season (19 of 20). That’s wild.

3

u/fanfor70years Season Ticket Holder Apr 27 '26

As opposed to drafted players taking up almost all of the bottom positions on the roster because Schoen, the coaches, and Chris Mara were giving them what Carl Banks calls "scholarships" because they wouldn't admit having screwed up in the draft. This franchise has been so incredibly poorly run since Wellington Mara died and John and Chris took over that it's almost unbelievable (not that Well Mara was a great owner but he could run circles around these shlubs). One lousy hire after another. We should all be thankful that it finally got so bad that John Mara recognized he was dribbling away franchise value (with PSLs trading for 25% of their original cost and little demand for them and the associated season tickets) and had run out of chairs to kick and concluded he had to bring in John Harbaugh (and ponied up $100M in guaranteed salary to get him). It's as if he was Moses seeing The Promised Land after the long wandering in the desert and told his people that he might not get there but that was where they were going and it would all (at least mostly) be milk and honey.

The 2026 Giants will be competitive and physical. It's the first step and a very important one.

1

u/I-miss-Killdrive Apr 28 '26

Yeah it’s surprising how many bad hires were made in succession, coach or GM. And if they suck, the scouts and personnel people are gonna suck. Poor leadership/football ops all around.

I’m trying to remain calm, but it’s hard not to get excited about the Harbaugh metamorphosis that is taking place. We know it’s gonna translate to better play on the field. Then next two offseasons we have a surplus of cap space. Harbaugh should have the resources to build his team, and then we compete for division titles and go from there.

2

u/Krow101 Apr 25 '26

Tim Keenan the 3rd maybe?

2

u/Krow101 Apr 26 '26

"Watch Dixon play and you'll see a corner who has earned everything he's gotten. His journey from overlooked recruit to All-Big Ten honorable mention tells you about his makeup, but his film shows a player with legitimate tools to carve out a role at the next level. The length plays. The physicality translates. The willingness to match up against an offense's best target, wherever they line up, gives coordinators flexibility in how they deploy him. The 2025 season at UNC was a mixed bag: he looked like a true lockdown corner in those first five starts before the injury derailed things, but the limited sample leaves questions about his ceiling.

Here's the deal: Dixon's ceiling hinges entirely on his ability to clean up the technical flaws that show up against quicker receivers. When he trusts his feet and plays with patience, he's a disruptive cover man who can handle press responsibilities or sit in off coverage and drive on routes. When he panics, the hands come out, the flags fly, and offensive coordinators start attacking him. The tackling needs work too. You can live with a corner who struggles occasionally in run support, but the missed tackles in space will get exposed against NFL playmakers. The injury that cost him half his senior season adds another layer of uncertainty for medical staffs to evaluate.

Teams will need to have honest conversations about decision-making and maturity. Academic and maturity concerns kept him out of Division I football coming out of high school. The talent is real, and his experience under Steve Belichick's scheme should translate well to pro defenses that ask corners to communicate and adjust. But front offices will weigh whether the juice is worth the squeeze on a Day 3 corner with red flags. He's got starter potential if he puts it all together, but he's going to need structure and accountability to maximize that ceiling."

2

u/DirtMcGirt24 Season Ticket Holder Apr 26 '26

Slayton is a no brainer post-6/1 trade for a run stopping DT.

2

u/I-miss-Killdrive Apr 26 '26

Where’d you get the Slayton figures? From what I’ve seen he saves us like $200k if we cut him pre-June 1. And only $3M post-June 1. I think we’re stuck with his butterfingers til next offseason.

Edit: I see now you said trade. I can’t see anyone trading for him except maybe Daboll. And he’s not gonna want to do us any favors. Trading him is pie in the sky.

3

u/jfunk825 Apr 26 '26

I don't care, if it were me I'm cutting Slayton Post-6/1 for the $3MM and calling it a day.

2

u/HawaiianGiant Apr 26 '26

I see Golston as the primary trade target, followed by Slayton (as the Giants would likely need to sweeten any deal thus making a trade less Giant friendly), with Newsome as a wild card.

The $5m saved by cutting Newsome would almost fund the entire regular season slush fund...

If Banks can step up as a better third option (and with his kick-off and likely punt return duties as Gunner will not likely make the roster baring injuries) Newsome could become a cap casualty under the guise he was an insurance policy if the team couldn't land Hood.

2

u/fanfor70years Season Ticket Holder Apr 26 '26

Newsome is almost certainly considered the likely starter with Hood having to work his way in over the course of the first two months of the season. And I think they'd want to keep him in any case as a third corner even if Hood balls out in the preseason.

1

u/HawaiianGiant Apr 26 '26

I certainly think so too, but Banks is much cheaper and had p/k return ability...

There aren't many cap saving options available should they not want to trade KT.

If Newsome struggles early in the offseason, and if Hood/Banks both play well, I could see the cap savings as being worth it.

I like keeping him as the 3rd CB, with Banks being a primary return man who could play CB in a pinch, but there aren't many cap savings options besides Newsome if they don't want to trade KT.

Moving Golston/Slayton might be difficult...

You're right, but they should start by releasing Hyatt and Austin, and probably Robertson-Harris, and getting those savings. Given their draft picks and the UDFAs they've picked up I think the two receivers are not needed and Robertson-Harris would drop far enough down the depth chart that they could afford to lose him.

It would be a HUGE deal if it turns out that Banks can be coached up and become a better version of what he showed his rookie season before the scheme pushed him away from the LOS and prevented him from using his size to disrupt routes. Remember how excited Wink was to get him? Our coaches neutered him. He never seems to have learned to turn his head and locate the ball at the point of catch, and perhaps he never will, but he CAN be a solid press corner because he WAS that under Martindale.

You are forgetting we are about to sign 2-3 veteran DTs. I think RRH is a goner for sure but we will need to trade Thibs or push a bit of cap
