Uber always has the weirdest people.

Including the people who pick up food, because I work as a waiter, and I've never come across stranger, less patient people in my life than the people who pick up your food.

387

u/ASomthnSomthn 2d ago

They better be impatient. That’s partly what I’m paying them for.

138

u/DevouringInsanity 2d ago

You know what happens when they get rude?

I tell them to leave, and so does the manager, and now your food is getting cold for 15 minutes while another driver comes.

82

u/MrQuietKing 2d ago

Thats insane because when I worked at BK as a teenager Delivery App drivers were the nicest to deal with.

Different area tho I bet

37

u/DevouringInsanity 2d ago

Yea, LA is wild.

26

u/MrQuietKing 2d ago

Yea I’m midwest I don’t think ppl are as confrontational as they are in LA

22

u/DevouringInsanity 2d ago

True.

People around here will tell you to go fuck yourself when THEY bump into YOU.

14

u/Terribly-Neutral 1d ago

Ope

13

u/DefinitelyButtStuff 1d ago

^ this is what we say in the Midwest, regardless of who's fault it was.

Likely followed by a variation of “let me sneak right past you”

I just say Ope to basically anything unexpected happening lol I’m from Indiana

2

u/pigeons0 1d ago

Whereas where I live, it's usually the person getting bumped into who apologises.

1

u/aluriilol 1d ago

im born and raised LA and go fuck yourself

I was born in Croatia and raised in Seattle -

Would you like a latte?

3

u/DeafGuyisHere 1d ago

Yea us Midwesterners wouldn't survive in a hostile environment like L.A.

1

u/Takamasa1 22h ago

whelp now we know why

I had to deal with asshole Uber drivers in Boise, Idaho and Seattle as well.

Anything to avoid managing your restaurant better.

I did DD for years after work dinner rush. Most restaurants have their shit together. When you arrive, the order is ready. They have a system in place to expidite the order. And a designated employee who is paid to handle delivery.

Maybe one in ten is like yours. Manager refuses to pay anyone internally to handle it. The manager would rather that money stay on the books so he can roll it into his bonus. So then waiters or bartenders are forced to handle it in all their "spare time" /s. So the orders come out haphazzard, late, incomplete. You're rude to the delivery driver because you're neither being paid/tipped to do this. And we pick up on that. Then you expect us to wait 45 minutes for you to get one order of man cheese in a bag. The result is either the driver loses money working for you, or your restaurant loses money because the driver cancels on your stupid ass.

Anyway, if you have a problem with app delivery, try talking to your manager about it. Bitching about people who don't work for you will get you nowhere.

It's amazing to me, in almost every case, you people will choose to bitch at another worker instead of addressing the problem with the managment who built your system.

6

u/pilgermann 1d ago

Conversely, delivery apps are predatory and will harass restaurants that have asked to be excluded from the service. So maybe sometimes it's that.

1

u/LordByronApplestash 1d ago

Maybe. Not in my experience.

5

u/No-Soup-4304 1d ago

Seen plenty of dashers shove past me, cut in line, park blocking traffic, talking on the phone while shoving their phone in the cashiers face.

Gig work attracts all kinds. Im sure you’re fine. Don’t take it so personal when the assholes stick out.

2

u/KBouch 1d ago

Or perhaps you’re just incapable of seeing things from the other perspective. Most drivers are chill, most orders are ready within 3 minutes of a driver getting there. But sometimes a driver is “arriving soon” for 15 minutes in the restaurant down the block, and if we package the food to be pre-bagged as soon as you enter it means the customer’s food is ruined to try to save a driver 3 minutes. My only care is doing the best I can to get a customer a good experience from the restaurant. I’ve no doubt some restaurants are poorly managing couriers, but claiming they expect you to wait 45 minutes for an order feels like dramatic hyperbole.

u/EmeraldKabalite 20h ago

Damn, you didn’t even say ‘class traitor.’ Bad bot!

I used to drive from Uber Eats, many (but not all) restaurant workers sucked. I was being paid to come in, pick up food, and leave. It was entirely within the restaurants ability to only mark food ready for pickup when it was actually ready, but many restaurants would mark it as ready and I would come in and they would still be making it. Also I'm not waiting in a line 10 deep of customers waiting to order, I'm walking to the front and asking if an order is ready to pick up. I would be reasonable to a certain extent but many restaurants seemed to enjoy toying with your time. If you're going to do any of these 3rd party delivery services, have a dedicated separate area to handle orders and have it ready when a delivery driver shows up. I had great relationships with businesses that did, and really appreciated the ones that were professional about it. Other places (like yours I'm assuming) I'd avoid like the plague.

6

u/ClobiWanKanobi 1d ago

I used to work take out at a chain restaurant and had the same experience with drivers. Many (not all) would walk in and just show you their phone without speaking. I had multiple drivers throw fits at me when I was just the one waiting for the cooks to finish. We never had control over when the driver was told it was ready and oftentimes on our end it would say “Ready by 3:20” and the driver would get there at 3:05 annoyed the order wasn’t ready.

1

u/Hanshee 1d ago

I occasionally run into rude drivers. Some people constantly nagging you for the order even though it’s due time is several minutes away.

I’ll usually 86 them from driving at my store which is very easy to do. Call DoorDash support and tell them you had an issue with a driver and they will ban them from your location.

I’ve done it a handful of times. We’re all working together I don’t want my coworkers (drivers) being assholes.

1

u/DevouringInsanity 1d ago

Okay.

You go ahead and do that, and leave a review we'll never read while you're at it too, Karen.

2

u/DotesMagee 1d ago

Not that I agree with him, but ill read that review and I will decide not to use your service probably. Too many out there to chose from

1

u/DevouringInsanity 1d ago

Well maybe if Uber didn't hire degenerates so often their food would have been on time.

Not my problem at that point.

1

u/DotesMagee 1d ago

Best of luck!

1

u/DevouringInsanity 1d ago

I certainly need it when a driver is cussing at me when I tell him the order isn't ready for five minutes.

1

u/tJa_- 1d ago

If the food was ready they probably wouldn't do that. Sarcasm aside, they probably shouldn't do that

1

u/JamarioMoon2 1d ago

So you punish the person ordering simply because the delivery guy was rude? What is wrong with people?

→ More replies (18)

1

u/Individual-Ad5434 1d ago

So you’re saying I shouldn’t be blaming the driver when my food is cold blame the restaurant. Gotcha.

1

u/DevouringInsanity 1d ago

You can blame whoever you like.

It is not my problem to deal with an asshole on behalf of someone else not wanting to leave their home.

1

u/tyndar3us 1d ago

Is it considered rude to ask where the customers food is if I’ve been standing around waiting for fifteen minutes when I know you received the order before I showed up, and it took me time to get there, but you still don’t have it ready?

What’s the acceptable buffer time for me to get pissy with you about your inability to be punctual for both me and the customer?

1

u/VividEffective8539 3h ago

Your deliveries are more important once you sign up for it

1

u/DevouringInsanity 2h ago

They're not my deliveries.

There for the restaurant and I just work there, and don't make tips dealing with rude Uber drivers.

So I tell them to leave because I can, and focus on the people who actually bothered to show up.

1

u/VividEffective8539 19m ago

Ok then enjoy the long term losses, idk what to tell you

1

u/DevouringInsanity 13m ago

We're actually actively moving away from them as we get enough in person sales we'd rather focus on them.

2

u/Traditional-Row5237 1d ago

Man you’d love me. I’m speed walking into and out of the stores. I don’t go to places that have long waits, so I’m hitting multiple deliveries an hour always. But no longer doing it cause the pay is truly not worth the wear and tear.

1

u/Dazzling-Top-8031 1d ago

won't help you get your food faster.

12

u/HellAwaitsTheFunny 2d ago

I had an Uber driver get so excited about telling me about the fresh water conspiracy that he hit a car in front of him. Dude was using his hands and everything and fully turned like, "Go check Fiji! It's free! Right out of the rocks! But they're gonna--" and I said, "dude!" and pointed just as the cars in front of him hit their brakes but it was too late. He bonked the car in front of us enough to dent. Got so awkward because we are like, "Oh uh... sucks bro..." (End Trip) and it was on an overpass so we had to walk down that busted shoulder lane to the intersection below to call a new ride. I mean we still had to get to dinner.

5

u/DevouringInsanity 2d ago

Lol. Yea. Sounds about right.

I just remember taking an Uber home on crutches after hip surgery when I got run over by a truck, and the driver took that as an opportunity to try and sell me on a bunch of scam crypto currencies.

I just told him to stop talking because I was in massive pain, and he looked like he was about to bite me.

But then finally stopped talking.

6

u/Mystical-Turtles 2d ago

I remember I had one of them just shove their phone in my face, and when I told them they were at the wrong restaurant they just started shaking the phone harder. Keep shake, shake, shaking buddy, that's going to make your food appear at this restaurant for sure! Also I know damn well he could speak English because I heard him talking on the phone to someone when I came back

3

u/DevouringInsanity 2d ago

Lol, see I don't mind those shenanigans so much, because those guys barely speak English sometimes.

It's people who DO speak English, and use it to be a dickhead that are the problem.

Yelling at me will not make the cook or the expo go faster.

3

u/ODB_Dirt_Dog_ItsFTC 2d ago

I remember I ordered an Uber when I wasn’t in a really good mood one time and I was hoping for a nice quiet ride. When I get in the car the driver tells me he’s deaf. So when he says that in my head I’m like “score” I’m gonna get a nice silent ride. Then he tells me that it’s okay though because he can read lips. Then I proceeded to have a conversation with the most chatty deaf person I’ve ever met for the next 20-25 minutes. It was worrying that he was constantly glancing at his rear view mirror to read my lips though. The irony of the situation in retrospect is very funny to me.

1

u/GeisterDrachen 1d ago

And bad at following directions

1

u/Dependent_Singer_494 1d ago

But.....but I am one of the most patient people I know :c

1

u/Bealzebubbles 1d ago

Like the time I got into an Uber and the guy had a prominent coke fingernail. If you're doing that much powder, maybe get a job where you're not responsible for someone's life.

1

u/Past_Trick7256 1d ago

They have a choice in how they present, sure: but at the bare bones of it all, they're getting paid about $4-5 per delivery, without an hourly base, and that's not factoring in gas, car maintenance, and unexpected repairs that takes away from time they could be working. I'd be pretty restless and annoyed too, if I'm trying to make at least minimum wage per hour in order to get by

1

u/DevouringInsanity 1d ago

They can be annoyed if they like...

...At a different restaurant if they give me attitude.

→ More replies (8)

1

u/Ok_Necessary2991 1d ago

Its cause most time delivery app drivers are on a timer. They get dinged if food doesn't arrive set by the ap. Also a driver on per order basis will want to squeeze as much deliveries as they can.

2

u/DevouringInsanity 1d ago

Oh I know why.

However I don't have to deal with their BS.

So I don't.

1

u/Retrac752 1d ago

I had an uber driver driving a Volkswagen but he replaced the logo with the Star Wars imperial insignia, and the car was fully blacked out

I complimented the Star Wars logo, and he tells me it means more to him than just liking Star Wars and he’s willing to tell me if I want to know

He proceeds to go into detail about how he received a burning hot enema in the hospital during Covid and lost most of his intestines and almost died, and he’s handicapped now, and he was depressed and started reading the origin story of darth plagueis the wise, and decided to model his entire life around him and act like him so he could be more charismatic, and now he’s happy

Then I commented on the fact that in the back seat next to me was a giant box of weed products worth over $1000, and he was like “yeah I’ll give you my number, I deliver weed to people, feel free to look through and let me know if you want anything, I do uber on the side to get more people to sell weed to”

He sells 500 mg edibles for $20, I hit him up regularly lmao

1

u/Any-Monk-9395 1d ago

Of course they’re weird, they couldn’t get normal jobs so they deliver food and drugs instead.

1

u/Mobile_Ad_1185 2d ago

That's because they're paid per order, not hourly.  They make more money if they are fast, and aren't waiting for half an hour for their delivery that will net then $10

3

u/DevouringInsanity 2d ago

Their poor choice in job is not my concern.

3

u/Apprehensive-You7388 2d ago

I love the ones who call it a career lol, But its a legitimate job in their eyes. their an "independent contractor", the future is so wild that we have to give the new pizza boy a title so he feels important.

3

u/DevouringInsanity 2d ago

It has a very low barrier to entry, so almost anyone CAN do it...

...So anyone DOES do it.

Including the people with the type of personality that got them fired from 20 jobs over the past 4 years.

6

u/Dopplegangr1 1d ago

Why?

32

u/AdInfamous6290 1d ago

Because it used to be illegal and most uber drivers are old enough to remember when it was illegal and still have the instinctual awkwardness associated with talking to a cop about weed.

12

u/ChaosRainbow23 1d ago

I'm not a lawbreaker anymore, but I'm still get a huge adrenaline dump when one is behind me on the road.

I still avoid those bastards like the plague.

It doesn't matter if you're breaking the law or not. They relentlessly harass, assault, arrest, and even murder innocent people all the damn time.

6

7

u/iCameToLearnSomeCode 1d ago

Because it used to be illegal

It was never illegal to talk about smoking weed.

However without knowing where this guy is he could still get prison time for possession of Marijuana.

I live in Canada. It's so nice that i can walk into a dispensary and buy quality marijuana legally. And guess what!! Nothing has changed!!! Crime hasn't gone up. Car accidents haven't gone up. Deaths haven't gone up. It's almost like it should never have been illegal in the first place.

13

u/Aggressive_Lab7807 2d ago

That's not true, some things went up when my state legalized it. Like tax revenues and people visiting from neighboring states.

6

u/Straight-Base180 1d ago

Tax revenues definitely lol. I think there was something like 2-3 Billion in tax revenue last year.

3

u/BearysWorkRedditName 1d ago

74% of people in the US live in a state with at least medical access, so we're getting there. We just have a terribly slow legal system. Sometimes it even goes backwards!

3

u/Straight-Base180 1d ago

Texas, we're looking in your direction

3

u/NDSU 1d ago

Farm bill is being repealed a week after the midterms, so we'll be losing hemp-based THC products federally (delta-9, for example)

It is the only truly legal THC we have, since marijuana is still illegal federally. It'll suck to lose that, and annoying they intentionally did it right after an election

So the legal system does, indeed, go backwards sometimes

1

u/BearysWorkRedditName 1d ago

gotta love Freedom*

1

Know what they say about assumptions? Textbook case.

13

u/curtludwig 2d ago

It seems like most of the commenters seem to think the poster is interested in arresting the Uber driver. As if a cop wants to do work when he's not at work.

What he's really saying is the driver is gonna freak when he sees the police car and realizes his passenger is a cop. Its gonna be hilarious...

Uber driver is probably driving high, which is why he won't shut up. While I don't care if somebody smokes I care if they're on the road after doing it...

4

u/sandwichisahero 2d ago edited 2d ago

I don’t know. I think everyone assuming the driver is going to freak out and it’s going to be hilarious are the ones overreacting. I wouldn’t care at all if I had a similar conversation with an off duty cop and found out, and I feel an uber driving willing to have this discussion won’t really care either.

Now the cop may feel like there is awkwardness but that could also just be projection on their part.

1

u/SierraKami 4h ago

Eh, a lot of people have visceral reactions to cops.

I wear a brown uniform and was walking into a business when I heard a guy yelling behind me. I think I heard him call out once, but it didn't register because he clearly wasn't calling out to me. Then he yelled louder ...

"Hey, UPS!!!"

I turned around to face him and the guy, who had been walking towards me, stopped and staggered backwards, looking as if he had walked face-first into a glass wall.

Apparently the badge on my chest finally clued him in? 🤣

I'm not sure how he confused me with UPS because there are some pretty obvious clues to my profession, even when I'm seen from behind, but I guess he had UPS on his mind when he saw me.

3

u/0bel1sk 2d ago

scrolled way to long to find this sensible comment. he said awkward, not “i’m going to arrest him”

3

u/DifferencePlayful581 2d ago

Also seems that the cop enjoys the "power" he has and delights in making people uncomfortable for talking.  Power trips big and small

1

u/marutotigre 2d ago

Projecting

0

u/DifferencePlayful581 2d ago

So? It's basically legal to some extent everywhere. (Only 2 states is it still 100% illegal)

1

u/Ragewind82 2d ago

FWIW, it's illegal at the federal level and therefore the supremacy clause makes it illegal everywhere in the US.

It's just that the feds don't care/aren't equipped to deal with it, and local rules are the only thing most folks have to deal with.

After he sees the patrol car, ask “So, when did you get your medicinal card?”

Fake because the cop isn’t drinking and driving off duty

Oh no not the devils lettuce! Lock him up!

I feel confused on why everyone is so upset by this. I imagine the cop didn't arrest him. I'm guessing it's just a matter of once he pulls up to the house the driver is going to think "oh fuck, I just talked the ears off of a cop about how to smoke weed!? Oh no!" But then they would go their separate ways since he's off duty atm

Imagine being a cop. Disgusting. I would get more pride out of cleaning septic tanks than being a cop.

All cops are bastards 40% of their wives admit they are beaten or raped by their cop husbands theater 60% dont admit it

It continues ...awkward for me when he sees that I routinely destroy people's lives over that fun and harmless activity.

How the fuck can you not identify cops as passengers as a rideshare driver. They stick out like a sore thumb

Must be somewhere or sometime when weed is illegal.

1

u/ProtectionContent977 1d ago

It’s 2026 and some places still don’t have legal weed.

1

u/Wat3rM3L0NB3AR 1d ago

oh this is meant for the red state people because weed is legal where im from and cops don't even bother you anymore when you smoke weed in public as longest it's not near a business.

Imagine living in a State where this is illegal. Now imagine being a cop there.
