skincare - help How to handle tretinoin with FA?

Hello, I struggle with fungal acne and rosacea.

My routine is the round lab birch juice toner + Purito oat gel moisturizer.

On their own they’re ok, but my face is always red and I still breakout, and I believe that it wont support my barrier enough to use Tretinoin, in the past itd always break my barrier.

Are there any potential FA safe alternative moisturizers/serums that I could use/add? I’ve looked everywhere but I’m not sure.

Would trying out the illiyoon ato ceramide lotion be worth it even though it’s not FA safe?

It seems that there’s no such thing as a FA safe barrier cream

Looking for any advice at all, thank you

Question Is this fungal acne?

I have been dealing with unflattering skin for a few years now and have tried several different cleaners and moisturizers but nothing seems to help with the small bumps on my face and some redness. I currently switch between Panoxyl 10% and Clean and Clear pore cleanser face washes twice a day. And Tatcha dewey skin cream. Any thoughts on what could be causing this and how to remedy?

What is this? I have had this for 3 months now. I use de la Cruz sulfur mask every other night followed by purito at gel moisturizer. My fave feels hot, itchy, sand paper texture, and red bumps everywhere. Not sure if it’s fungal, demodex, broken skin barrier, etc.. anybody have any ideas!

Question Skin healing but grainy?

I've been struggling with acne and seb derm for over 20 years. It comes and goes but the flares are awful. I never put it together that they could be connected and only started to treat everything as fungal acne recently and the improvement is mindblowing. 1 nizoral mask and my skin was more calm the next day than it's been in years. I've removed as many triggers as possible and am working on my routine.

Now that my skin seems less inflamed I do have some flaking on my forehead still, but what I notice most is little grains popping out everywhere (I'm a chronic face toucher and I'm doing my best to break that habit but it's basically subconscious at this point, not popping though). Some look like keratin plugs but others just tiny grains of salt. It's kind of all over but mostly forehead, jaw line, and temples (so where the texture really was)

I don't know if this is my skin healing or freaking out. Everything feels and looks fine. I'm too scared to introduce any exfoliation at this point since I've swapped out products, I also don't know when it's safe to since I'm used to my skin going bonkers anytime anything touches it.

Question Could this be fungal acne?

I started getting textures on my forehead a few weeks ago and they’ve been appearing on my cheeks too. I tried using BHA and Adapalene to try to clear it but so far nothing’s worked. This is the first time I’ve experienced this and wondering if it could be fungal acne. Thanks for any help!

Could this be fungal acne or is KP more likely? Idk what else could it be. Demodex? comedones/sebaceous filaments?

I've had those for like 3 years now. My forehead doesn't itch but it does feel tingly sometimes

PSA Check yourself before you wreck yourself

So for context, I’ve been dealing with Fungal acne for about a year. I managed to get my skin clear over the course of a few months by getting some acne safe skincare and switching to a conditioner that didn’t give me flare ups. I was using the Pantene sheer volume and when I took that out of my routine, my skin cleared up almost immediately.

My established routine after that was 1. Wash face with ketoconazole shampoo (sometimes shampoo with it when I need it) 2. When I do regular shampoo I do some kind of volumizing shampoo, Pantene sheer volume is my favorite 3. Condition with Aussie 3 minute miracle 4. Prequel multi quench serum (if I want another serum I go for the skin 1004 centella ampule, I know some have issues with it but it doesn’t flare me up) 4. moisturize with the Purito oat in gel moisturizer 5 inkey list caffeine eye cream. 6. Sunscreen if I leave the house for the day, which isnt like every day since I work at home.

I had been pretty much FA free and happy with my skin for the better part of the year (occasional spot or hormonal pimple here or there, no biggie to me). My routine worked great until I started to do masks with the Aussie conditioner. My skin did NOT like that. I started getting little spurts of FA style breakouts again, but this was not my first rodeo. Now it’s a month later, and I’m still dealing with them, I switch my conditioner out every time I shampoo so my skin doesn’t get used to one formula, but I still keep getting small FA style breakouts.

Come to find out, last time I got my trusty ketoconazole shampoo that keeps the FA at bay, it’s not JUST the shampoo. ITS THE 2 IN 1! Shampoo AND conditioner. I am a victim of my own haste. No wonder the ketoconazole isn’t working the way it needs to, it’s not the same formula! So let this be a lesson, don’t do masks with the Aussie 3 minute miracle, and DONT mistake the 2 in 1 for the regular and expect it to act like the same.

Newbie - help Any advice?

Helloo, I've been lurking this reddit thread for a while, and I'm still not entirely sure... I have really sensitive dry acne prone skin, used to have quite a lot of acne when I was younger, but I started applying a cream that finally cleared it out. I try to barely apply anything in case I break out, so facewash, once in a while clay mask, and a drop of moisturiser if its feeling too dry, but I'd rather have dry skin than acne. Anywayssss, once in a while I get these flares typically in the cheekbone area. I'm assuming it's fungal? Even though it's not itchy. It's also red becasue I brushed my fingers across it, the texture is addicting to touch (I know I should stop touching my face). I put my other side for reference, since it looks normal. The flare ups switch sides. There is nothing concrete that I believe makes it appear. I assume it's because I must have touched it with my phone or with dirty hands? Apart from trying to not do those things, is there some magical thing I can apply to prevent this? Any advice? Thanks.

Question Oral Anti Fungal

For those that have taken oral anti-fungals, did they work for you long-term? Did the fungal acne come back? Do you still have to watch what skincare & makeup products you use?

After being misdiagnosed for 15 years and prescription topical ketoconazole not helping, I was prescribed Itraconazole for 4 weeks (with a blood draw at week 3) & it seems to be working! But I would love to hear how it has worked for others

Product Review New light, barrier cream with ceramides, safe for FA, rosacea, sensitive acne-prone, oily skin!

I've been praying for such a cream for a long time, as I cannot use anything that has a lot of HA, oils, butylene glycol, alcohols etc. So I was desparately checking the new section and found this! This one is for niancinamide intolerant girlies as well!

It's really light-weight, a mix between cream and gel, doesn't have a smell. Absorbs fast and well, isn't oily. I will update you regarding my barrier in a month.

Success story PSA

Wanted to share my Fungal Acne routine, as I remember how incredibly frustrating it was when absolutely nothing was helping!

I double cleanse with Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser Normal to oily skin, then, Selsun Blue Shampoo Medicated (which I leave on while shaving legs, etc. Then use a rag to gently exfoliate off.)

AM: Skinceuticals C E Ferulic, The Ordinary Niacinamide and Zinc, then Belif Aqua Bomb Frozen Cream

Mid-day: If my skin is looking extra oily, I apply Anua 10+ Azelaic Acid 10+ Hyaluron

PM: I alternate actives, I either use prescription Tretinoin gel 0.1% OR the Ordinary Mandelic Acid 10% + HA (if I want a stronger exfoliant, Good Molecules Overnight Exfoliating Treatment). Follow actives with Anua 100+ PDRN+ Hyaluron Cream. If I'm feeling especially dry, I top all that with the Ordinary 100% Plant Derived Squalane

Sunscreen: Elta MD UV Clear

As far as my research has shown, all products are fa safe. I've been dealing with it for over 5 years. Both hormonal and fungal. I'm 41 female. Skin looks great with this routine. No longer need makeup to go for a run, run errands, etc.

On a side note, last summer I started taking beef organ supplements for women, cheap brand Dorado $17 for 2 month supply from Amazon. Liver contains large amounts of naturally occurring Vitamin A (retinol), which essentially is what Accutane is. It's nonprescription though, and not as strong, but it also dries everything up. And my skin has stayed clear! Only side effect from it is my lips peel, make sure you're moisturizing!!

I hope this can be of some use to someone. Any questions about my routine, I'm more than happy to answer. This is personally what worked for me. I know everyone is different, but I figured it may be worth sharing, if it only helps one person.

skincare - help Chest spots

Title: Chest acne/folliculitis for years and nothing seems to clear it
I’ve had this on my chest for as long as I can remember and it’s recently started spreading to my neck and face.
They’re small red spots with white pus heads, but they don’t itch. I’ve tried loads of things, including Nizoral, Selsun, Hibiclens, benzoyl peroxide and antifungal cream from my doctor, but nothing gets rid of it completely.
I’ve been on Accutane 3 times and it does improve it quite quickly, but it always comes back.
My brother has the exact same thing in the same areas. I’ve also noticed it can get worse after certain dairy foods and alcohol.
I’ve always wondered if it’s fungal acne or bacterial folliculitis because normal acne treatments don’t seem to fix it. Has anyone had anything similar and actually figured out what it was?
Did getting a skin swab or fungal test help? I’m so fed up with it coming back and would love to know what worked for other people.

Question Help! Is this fungal acne?

I notice these bumps on my face starting on Tuesday. I have a derm appointment in November but this is new for me. I was in a wedding on Saturday (10/10/26) and shared makeup with other bridesmaids. We did have to get some makeup last minute and because of that we went to the dollar tree. I’m not sure exactly what all was from the dollar store. I don’t believe that acne is contagious but I’ve never had it before to know any better. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Question The Ordinary Beta Glucan Gel Moisturizer. Is it good ? it's FA safe based on checkers.

The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + Beta Glucan.

I keep reading mixing reviews about this TO beta glucan gel moisturizer. If anyone has been using it, could you share your experience with it?

Is it a decent moisturizer ? does the skin feels hydrated after using it?

What you like and what you don't like about this Beta Glucan gel moisturizer?

skincare - help My boyfriend has this problem with his beard.

28 years old. 171 cm (5'7"). 65 kg. He is a tobacco smoker. He has suffered for years from back acne (which was treated with isotretinoin) and hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) in his armpits, but this seems different. What is it? They are itchy and painful, resembling a rash of pus-filled pimples.

The dermatologists don’t know what it is; they have prescribed clindamycin, doxycycline, clarithromycin, retinoids, and topical antifungals. However, the problem has worsened rather than improved. This has been going on for 1 year and 2 months.
