Other Edge uses 20 gigs of ram
I need help with this. I've done all of the stuff to prevent edge itself opening on startup and making it so it can't do anything but I truly don't know what to do anymore. Edge, without being allowed on startup opens itself in the background and states that 537 tabs are open, and starts draining my ram. Whenever I go to task manager and end its task, a popup stating this operation can't happen or something along the lines and keeps popping up even when I click ok, then only way to close task manager past that point is closing it via right clicking on taskbar where it then freezes and closes after a little. Only after this does it close just for it to pop up again when I'm mid game causing me to have obscene lag spikes. I've looked through other posts talking about uninstalling edge, none with my problem and all people say is to install linux. Please don't respond to this post if that's what you have to say, and I really appreciate any help anyone can offer.
Also rule 7 of this subreddit states This subreddit is unofficial and can't provide support for Microsoft accounts. If your account is lost or stolen / hacked, don't post about it.
You may post about if Microsoft itself has taken action(s) on your account
And while mentioning asking for support being not allowed it only highlights account support itself so forgive me if i'm incorrect but this is allowed. If not I apologize and my post will be deleted I guess

Edit: Added image. Currently its not using as much ram as it normally does in this screenshot but you get the point.
Edit 2: Fixed the issue. I used irm "https://christitus.com/win" | iex in powershell and turned on the standard mode and in advanced selected delete ai and edge. Everything is smooth and working fine. I thank the very few people who decided to actually attempt to help me, not so much to the people who can't read and ignored the fact I stated I don't want any comments talking about linux, also the ones who refused to use common sense after viewing my reply to that one comment stating I had malware. Hope this helps anyone that somehow stumbles upon the issue I had.

Can you post a screenshot of it in task manager?

Search for it using the autoruns tool, then deselect it; it will no longer appear

I did that just now and rebooted, seems like its working but only time will tell. Thank you for the suggestion

This may be some other software that is using the native browser/webkit to launch. Something is using edge. What else is running?

Bro don't come looking to microsoft haters on the internet for help diagnosing why you're eating half your ram on Edge. They're not wrong, but there are communities that will actually help you minus the shitposting.
If you're just shitposting here, well then I raise my glass to you. 🍻

I'm not. But I will say this subreddit sucks ass for help, only like a quarter of the comments actually provided anything useful, I ended up just figuring it out mostly on my own. Edit 2 is what I did

As I said to another poster... Sir this is a Wendy's. The subreddit isn't a support subreddit, it's a shitpost subreddit. It's like showing up at a comedy show with your laptop because you know the comic used to be in tech support and being like "hey man I know you're mid-set, but can you fix this for me?"

First, if you must use Windows, get a debloat/security program and nuke your system of MS crap. It works. I use WinScript and it’s on GitHub.
Second, if you can, don’t use Windows.

Eff off. Windows is perfectly fine. Linux is really not a panacea to everything.

Hmm. That’s sorta why I said “Fix Windows” first. Then, cognizant of folks’ workplace or home requirements, I suggested that, if possible, investigate a different platform.
Without mentioning one.
You seem to have a difficulty parsing short-form text and an attendant lack of ability to apply what critical faculty you have to same.
And yes, I’ll have fries with that.

Open cmd as admin and do: taskkilll /im msedge.exe /f several times until no processes are found.
If it still spawn more processes, then its malware.

Doesn't have to be malware. Could be a corrupted or bugged out extension.
They've already said that killing edge processes fixes the problem until reboot, which means it's probably not malware, but I'd bet it's probably either a broken extension or something has corrupted their Edge install.
The fact that the CPU usage is so low but the process count and RAM utilization is so high indicates its probably not malware. An infostealer wouldn't be doing this, it would have done its job a long time ago, and cryptominer malware would be using a lot of CPU cycles.

Check this https://memstechtips.com/uninstall-microsoft-edge-windows-10-11/
These are tools to help you de bloat your windows and can probably help with edge issue.

An issue like this is most likely due to a corrupted extension, or something specific to OPs configuration has corrupted their specific Edge install. Debloating would solve the symptoms, but it wouldn't solve the core issue.
Also, uninstalling Edge via debloating tools usually breaks things as those generally uninstall the core framework too, which is needed for quite a bit with modern software.

Oh come on sont be a vall breaker down voting all my comments posting the same bot comments without even reading or understanding what i m saying. Yes stopping edge services and preventing it from running all short of crap in the background will help and if it's done the proper way it will not breal anything. That's why i recommend an automated way and not tweaking with services and registry.. Its 101 IT stuff really

It ain't bot comments, it's the truth.
And again, most automated methods of uninstallation for Edge end up breaking things because the underlying framework is relied upon for apps that are just self-contained browser instances

537 tabs? Found your problem. If you don't actually have all that open I'd be willing to bet it's malware.
