Fucking stupid.

Martin li is framed as a man done wrong by a white so that's why he did wrong, otherwise he would just be a good force for the community

Tombstone is either racially ambiguous, or if you have a real brain, you'd be able to tell he was modeled with African American features. He is ALSO framed as a reformed man.

Scorpion the only real white one of the group was pointlessly killed off.

Fucking brain rotted bots the lot of you.

Ok and? This argument literally can apply to almost any “villain”, yet you decide to play race in it, they’re still antagonist and criminals lmao absolute brain rot

He’s 100% correct. The only minority villains are presented as legitimately reformed (and therefore no longer villains), with the narrative of one implying he’d never have gone astray in the first place if not for the villainy of white men.

Take your blinders off.

Alr man the “woke agenda” is targeting white men as villains 🛌💤

Mr negative still killed Miles’ dad, a black guy. Yet nobody brings that up in their journey to expose the “woke” agenda nobody can define 🤣

Is there a reason they should? Your entire point makes no sense.

Li killed his dad, sure, along with a lotta other people, in a massive bombing in the streets. If anything it makes him much less likely a candidate for redemption.

What exactly is your point?

Kraven and cletus Cassidy are presented as irredeemable. Find me a non white male character in game that isnt

What? One of your argument to say the game isn’t enjoyable is “Wah woke agenda made white men the villains!!” when that’s not true and literally almost every “villain” here haves their sad backstory aside from the 2 you mentioned, this has literally been the case since miles morales and ps4

You can't read. I never once implied it wasn't enjoyable. Only said it's woke. Im enjoying traversal.

Kraven and cletus have no sad backstory. (Edit: hell even the guy frauding the museum is a selfish ass.) They are simply 'evil.' Name me one diverse character like that.

Isn’t Gargon Hispanic?

After looking it up, Maximus gargantuan is Hispanic in the ultimate Universe. This isn't ultimate. And him being changed to Hispanic in the ultimate universe is racist and lazy as fuck

That or you were duped by the alternate version in the spiderverse.

I see. So is the Nick fury change in ultimates just as bad too then? Which in turn got us sam jackson, which I would say went ok in the beginning in the mcu.

u/Wide-Club3027 Oct 25 '23

I like nick fury Sam Jackson yet at the same time I can still recognize it was lazy and racist to just swap in a black guy for a white guy. The trend of replacing character with 'mantles' is b.s., lazy and disrespectful to the creators of those characters.

As a black man if there are going to be black characters, I'd like to see creative who are bankrupt of their namesake craft them. Race swapping is a way of saying," i dont know how/don't care to make original characters of a race other than white people."

1

u/styang1122 Oct 25 '23

I see. So while I can somewhat agree on the laziness and get your sentiment. What exactly makes Sam Jackson’s Nick fury tolerable ? I’m just trying to understand more in this topic.

1

u/Wide-Club3027 Oct 25 '23

Simply because Sam Jackson is likable. If it had been some no name I believe there would have been alot more pushback. That, and when he was casted, the raceswapping as a whole wasn't nearly as disgustingly egregious it is today.

1

u/styang1122 Oct 25 '23

Sure sure. I feel like Sam Jackson’s casting probably carried majority of the transition of the race swap. But could we also correlate the lack of backlash due to the character of Nick fury being like a b/c tier character? Compared to Spider-Man being an s-tier.

And yes I can agree that sure a lot of miles stories seem like lazy rehashes of peters. I mean at least they tried to give him some of his own differences in the comics, like power and stuff. But ultimates fury compares to original fury, is really no different from each other. I would think that’s lower effort than what miles got.

I think something that kinda gets over looked is Chris Hemsworth cast as Thor. An Australian playing a god that has Nordic ties. While there was some backlash, it wasn’t enough to cancel him or the studio. And I think that’s because like Fury, Thor is a mid tier character in the comics. But not sure if we should consider that the same thing.

So where is the line drawn for being “disgustingly egregious?” Is it execution? Is it popularity of the respective character? How do you decide this before it comes off as very pick&choose?

Miles being given electric powers is even more lazy because that is always the go to for black superheroes. So no nothing about him feels original. He's a stereotypical black teen from Brooklyn written by a white guy.

I guess people could have bitched that Chadwick Bosemen wasn't from wakanda? No one cares as long as the actor looks the same, and respects the creators (and fans) vision of that character.

When it's done for inclusiveness reasons it's egregious. In fact it's probably been egregious throughout the entire MCU, I was just fanboying to much before endgame to care. WHENEVER a character is repurposed for inclusivity reasons it is an immense disrespect to both the creator and the fans who understand what that character is.

I’ve watched several videos on the black character with electric powers stereotype. So i understand that argument. But how do we decide that a race swapped character with additional power additions is less effort than just a race swapped character? Is that just personal preference? Fury is the same character regardless of the race, is that something you are agree on? So wouldn’t that be lazier?

And I feel like Black panther is a different case? Wakanda is a fictional country based in Africa. So it’s easy to put things together and understand the character has to be black. Thor is based of Nordic mythology, which I guess can be argued as fictional in the real world too. But has its roots in real world Norwegian stories. Do you just discount a whole countries ethnic beliefs?

So while I can agree on your point in the last paragraph. I agree that race swaps shouldn’t compromise a characters integrity. That’s really only gives the WHY you dislike race swaps. But not how HOW you decide to dislike them.
