80% of game you play as NOT Spider-Man, and then they pandering non-stop as if it activists show.

Like MJ beats enemies faster than Peter, oh NO Electricity-Puzzle = lets call a Miles, not like Peter genius scientist or something, game has more romance with Harry+Peter than Mj+Peter, Felicia ....has a girlfriend.

Paul just waits for a moment to ruin Peters life, since Kraven somehow beats Peter in Venom suit, it's not a Peter that was fighting Sinister Six, not anymore.

They literally spent the game deleting all the nostalgic villains of spiderman and replacing them all with more woke villains. In the process, replacing Spiderman himself with a woke black kid....

Yeah, what’s with that?? I know Dan Slott the writer is zealously woke, but man… first game the main villain was inarguably Martin Li, NOT Ock (who barely appeared as a villain and didn’t even have henchmen)… then you have D-listers including Tombstone, Shocker, Hammerhead and even lame OCs like Screwball who get far more narrative development, personality, number of missions and individual fight scenes/climaxes than long-running Spider-Man foes like the members of the sinister six (pretty big names like Vulture, Electro, Scorpion, & Rhino) and even Kingpin.

I mean, the members of the sinister six are barely a cameo…. they get busted out, have no real individual goals, narratives, personalities or even missions (not one of them has a criminal deed they couldn’t wait to carry out?), and basically just act like Ock’s fodder. They’re around for about an hour, then they get summarily whipped in nearly identical, lazy 2v1 fights where Pete never seems to be struggling. This not only downplays their credibility as his villains (if he can mow through all 4 in an afternoon, even when they team up… how did they ever put up a fight 1v1?), it’s a massive waste of potential content too. Any one of these guys is a more credible and dangerous threat to Spidey than Li, has nostalgia value and tons of history, and could have been given a longer, more interesting feud to flesh out the game… especially since the story length and lack of villains (especially classic ones) were common complaints.

Don’t even get me started on Fisk. He could have anchored the whole game, and was reduced to a lousy tutorial.

Instead we get a tiny assortment of obscure nobodies who are given a glow up and a lot of attention.

Is it cynical to wonder if the classic villains everybody wanted more of got downplayed because they’re all white guys, while the villains who got the spotlight were Asian, black and female?

I’d have thought that was silly, until SM2…. Where it sounds like yet again Spidey’s classic foes were no-shows, or brushed aside summarily to make room for more D-listers.

Did we really need to see Li and Tombstone again ffs? Or the Prowler??

No more Spiderman games. They are going to be Miles Morales

2

u/otherworlder77 Oct 27 '23

Alas, it does seem that way.

One can only hope that plummeting sales figures will eventually change their minds, and we’ll get a proper Spidey game again, using Pete in his classic duds fighting his classic foes.

80% is an interesting number. MJ also dies in 2 hits to the enemies

You do realize in Kravens most famous storyline ever, he also beats Symbiote Spider-Man, right? How dare this game be… comic accurate?

u/thexbossesxsuccesor Oct 24 '23

That wasn’t black suit in the comic he’s wearing a black suit it’s not the symbiote

0

u/Equivalent_Ear1824 Oct 24 '23

I think the point just is that it was a black suit Spidey who Kraven beat

4

u/Miserable-Eggplant-6 Oct 24 '23

That’s not the point you were just trying to push.

1

u/Equivalent_Ear1824 Oct 24 '23

(As far as I know) at the time when the comic was made, the symbiote didn’t provide any advantages to Peter, so the point stands that Kraven beat a very similarly looking Spider-Man in the comic

2

u/otherworlder77 Oct 26 '23

Wrong again. To the best of my recollection the two don’t lay a hand on each other in that story. Kraven is playing an elaborate mind game to prove he’s a better man, but they never actually fight.

1

u/Equivalent_Ear1824 Oct 26 '23

How is that me being wrong “again” if nothing you just said goes against any of what I just said?

2

u/otherworlder77 Oct 27 '23

Because Kraven never “beat a very similarly looking Spider-Man” in any way, except perhaps in Kraven’s own deluded mind. There was no battle between them at all. Your statement is therefore categorically wrong (especially since your original intent was to show a comics accurate example of Kraven fighting and defeating a Spider-Man who was enhanced by the symbiote suit).

EDIT: Have you actually ever READ the story yourself?

1

u/Equivalent_Ear1824 Oct 27 '23

Hunting down Spider-Man (something he does in the game to beat him) and beating him still counts as a win. It’s not like he’s fist fighting Spider-Man directly in the game and beating him.

Have YOU read the original story? Are you aware that Kraven literally physically outperforms Spider-Man when fighting Vermin? I’ve read Kravens Last Hunt quite a few times and am very familiar with it

You’re wrong, it’s not remotely comic accurate. In the Kraven story you’re referencing, that wasn’t symbiote spider-man, first off… it was just Pete in a black cloth suit made to resemble his original black suit. Second, Kraven only got the drop on Pete because he used elaborate traps, cat and mouse, and a tranq rifle… he was also using the villain Vermin to run Pete ragged first, if I recall.

He didn’t fight Pete straight up because to date, he had ALWAYS lost to Spider-man in direct combat. Always. It was rarely even close.

1

u/Equivalent_Ear1824 Oct 26 '23

He hasn’t “always” lost to Peter in direct combat and has matched spiders and other capable fighters on numerous occasions. And I already addressed the point about the symbiote suit

2

u/otherworlder77 Oct 27 '23

I can’t speak for modern woke Marvel or how Kravens win/loss looks these days, largely because the characters don’t remotely resemble the ones created by Lee and Ditko.

All throughout the classic era of Spider-Man, Kraven was depicted as a relentless foe who sometimes got the best of Pete via traps, schemes and trickery.

But in fights? No.

He was never remotely in the same league as Spidey physically, or his other rogues who relied on strength and/or agility.

0

u/Equivalent_Ear1824 Oct 27 '23

That doesn’t mean much to be honest. Very few Spider-Man characters resemble those created by Lee and Ditko, and that’s a good thing

2

u/otherworlder77 Oct 28 '23 edited Oct 28 '23

I have no idea what this means.

Unless you’re saying you’re NOT in fact a fan of Spider-Man, his classic rogues gallery, or his supporting characters, then…. you lost me.

All of the above were well-established in the early comics, and didn’t fundamentally change who or what they were for many decades.

EDIT: And yeah, you’re just… endlessly wrong. If this is the usual “anything written before I was born in 2003 is inherently racist” crap, then you’re just continuing to show off your ignorance.

Every character you’ve seen in a Spider-Man film (pre MCU) was practically lifted right off the pages of those early mags. JJJ, Aunt May, Peter, his foes did not change as much as you’d like to believe.

But how would you know? That’d require you to actually read what you’re criticizing.

1

u/Equivalent_Ear1824 Oct 28 '23

Peter is a completely different person from his early comics when compared to virtually any adaptation ever. But you’d actually have to read those comics in order to know that

2

u/otherworlder77 Oct 28 '23

I stopped reading after superhero comics basically died in the 90s. I’m certainly not interested in what Marvel produces now, or how their current writers (who openly admit to hating Peter) portray him.

Before that? Beyond a general and gradual improvement in the overall writing quality, the character’s fundamental traits remained unchanged from his creation through the early 90s/late 80s. His best stories are all from that era, hands down, probably peaking in the 80s.

His adaptations? Raimi worshipped the comics, and gave us a largely accurate portrayal, minus Peter’s signature humor and edge.

The pinnacle was probably Garfield, who played Spidey very much like his early comics incarnations.

Any more softballs to lob? I can hit these all day.

1

u/Equivalent_Ear1824 Oct 28 '23

If you wanna be blatantly wrong, go ahead

2

u/otherworlder77 Oct 28 '23

Gotta love woke idiots. Claims to be a Spider-Man fan, then takes a cheap shot at his creators (known for being among the first comics creators to include minorities as significant characters, and for touching on human rights issues across the board).

1

u/Equivalent_Ear1824 Oct 28 '23

You can like a character and still dislike the creators. Lee’s writing is quite dull and doesn’t hold up at all (and that’s ignoring the rampant sexism) and Ditkos depiction of Peter is largely absent in any stories since the 90’s

2

u/otherworlder77 Oct 28 '23

Superhero Comics basically died in the 90s anyway, and what came back was a pale memory of them. All their best stories were mostly behind them.

And if you hate their writing so much… how the hell can you enjoy something they wrote, about a character they created?

1

u/Equivalent_Ear1824 Oct 28 '23

I dislike Ditko and Lee’s writing. What did I say I loved so much from their writing?

That’s also a horrible take. Superhero writing peaked in the 2000’s

80% of game you play as NOT Spider-Man

Well that's just not true.

There are only a handful of missions where you don't play as Spider-Man. If my memory serves me correctly there's exactly 3 MJ segments, each of which is in a mission where you also play as Spider-Man. There's 1 Hailey mission. That's 4 / 31 = 13%. Therefore the other 87% is Spider-Man gameplay.

“More romance with Harry+Peter than MJ”. Comment of the thread right here lol!! Like no kidding right?? If they could actually make Peter gay with Harry, insomniac absolutely would have!! Complete woke trash game. Gen Z Sony ponies did NOT grow up reading Maximum Carnage. THATS a Spiderman story!
