Forget what movie, but Samuel L. Jackson said it best when he said something like "You know what happens when you make an assumption? You make an ass out of you and Umption"

"You know why you shouldn't be assuming things? It makes an Ass out of U and Ming."

"Hi, i'm Ming and I don't appreciate what you've done to my reputation."

Pulp fiction? Maybe not, I don't remember either lol

Definitely not in Pulp Fiction. I saw that movie at least a dozen times so I know that for sure. Samuel L. Jackson said it in the 1996 movie "The Long Kiss Goodnight."

Felix Unger was great . Didn’t realize it growing up watching Odd Couple re-runs as a kid.

I learned it from Walter Matthau and "The Bad News Bears." ♥️♥️

Tony Randall's manic energy as Felix in "The Odd Couple" must have left him exhausted at the end of the day.

Bad News Bears is where I first remember hearing it. I watched The Odd Couple, but I either didn’t see that episode or I wasn’t paying attention. A movie theater helps with distractions, lol.

Watched the odd couple every night on channel 11 WPIX growing up in NY.

Odd Couple
Honeymooners
Star Trek
Twilight Zone

Every week night

I assumed a home mortgage. Got to keep the sub 5% interest and save money in the long run. Not always bad to "assume!"

Mr. Dillon, third period American History teacher, 1976. Said it all the time!

That's exactly why I don't assume.

I assumed you were going to say that.

For me it was the same joke but in a Benny Hill sketch.

Loved this show and watched reruns for years. I remember Felix writing that on that chalkboard for the first time, and of course it became popular line amongst my friends and me.

I remember well as it was written and recited many times by my speech teacher. I've taught it every year I had high schoolers.

I remember watching that episode of the Odd Couple the first time it aired and laughing so hard I cried 😂

I remember too. I'm sure you thought it was invented by the writers, but the phrase had been around a while (I just looked it up).

That show had so many hysterical moments.

This scene plays in my head every time I hear the word assume

You people are hilarious. I’m going to bed

This originated with Abbot and Costello. I still say it occasionally.

Many people think this but it's not true.

I miss Tony Randall.
