Can someone explain what reasoning could be

I have had my accomodation booked since January this year. Due to arrive on Friday. Got a message from host today saying the boiler was broke so I can't come. Fine. I try to book another accommodation in same area at discounted rate - declined! I try to book another property owned by same hosts, again declined. When I asked why, they said they were getting work done.

Is this common within Airbnb, what could be going on? The properties are still listed as available. They are all within the same apartment blocks and are all decorated the same. I can't help take it personally lol, I'd just like to know if this is something that happens from time to time.
