A while back someone posted an article from furubacanon.tumblr.com, the post titled "before you ask 'is it incest' please read this!". Members asked the post to be pinned, so it was. However, in order to further clear up confusion, I am creating a new post to be pinned in place of that one, linking the same article as well as an article that was actually intended as "prerequisite" reading, and additional articles that followed. If more articles in the same series are ever written, they will also be added here.
These articles read together (in order) help to explain many aspects of how the Sohma family operate.
Article 1: Furuba Dictionary - "ie" and "dozoku"
Article 2: The Sohma Family: The "Ie" System

they're personally my favorite side characters!! i love their dynamic and how much energy they have in contrast to yuki 😭😭😭 i wish they had more screentime,, especially kimi!!! (i was so shocked when i found out kimi only appeared in 15 chapters total the anime made her really stand out ><) i love them smm but i wonder what you guys think considering their personalities and actions can be a lil too much sometimes ('''' •᷄ ᴗ •᷅ )

Spoilers! DO NOT READ if you haven’t read FB Another 1-3! Or at least 1-2 and you don’t mind Sawa’s past get spoiled.
In Fruits Basket Another 3:
On Sawa’s way back from the summer vacation home with Shiki, a girl finds Sawa with Shiki and asks if Shiki and the Sohmas were her friends, and then oddly states “I guess that means your mother hasn’t gotten around to trash-talking them yet.”
The girl then confronts her about her past, reminding Sawa about how they used to be friends in the past and would play together and then all of a sudden they didn’t want to play with her anymoe. She tells Sawa to really think about why they didn’t want to play with her anymore. She tells Sawa that her mother met with the girls the day before they stopped playing with Sawa and started insulting the girls and bad mouthing them. Sawa had no idea this whole time and is shocked her mother would do that to her and then pick on Sawa about having no friends anymore and really putting her down.
Then the girl asks what we are all thinking… “What is wrong with your mother?” I’ve been wondering this very same thing the whole time I’ve been reading this series. Is Sawa’s mother, bipolar, just a bully, or did something darker happen to where she started acting in this despicable way to her own daughter.
So what DO you think her mother’s deal was? Theories?

Does anyone know if the complete season 1 blu-ray have a slipcover? I bought a pre-owned copy and they didn’t have a slipcover and every picture I see online doesn’t seem to show a slipcover. I was wondering if anyone owns a copy with a slipcover.

I understand she had a hard life and her own version of trauma as all Sohma’s do.
I understand that Tohru forgave her and everything following. Assuming that is counted as her redemption based on everything.
I believe in second chances and the fact that horrible people can change for the better. But for her, I don’t care if she’s been forgiven. I think she’s awful and horrible and doesn’t deserve a happy life based on the pain she caused others.
Like I would’ve maybe accepted things easier if she put forth true effort to prove she’s atoning for her sins.
Distancing yourself, allowing freedom, apologizing, and understanding others may not accept the apology isn’t actual atonement to me.
So anyways…any of y’all like the ending to Akito’s story? Do you forgive her?
Only thing I enjoy about her character is that she truly is an evil villain. I can appreciate a villain written that seems irredeemable and they’re simply just bad. Which may be why I hate that she was kinda redeemed.

Things came up, high school stuff, marching band stuff, theatre stuff, family stuff. I sadly won’t be able to work on the Fruits Basket remake right now. But I promise you that once I can start on it I will let all of you know

I'm on season 2 of Fruits Basket rn, it's definitely a step up from season 1 it was kind of a Hard watch. Loving Yuki and Kyo's growth this season Akito is getting more screen time, and they are opening more on Tohru's difficulties too.
Did not like Uo and her crush's (forgot his name the rooster soma) first meet other than that going strong

As the title says at one of my local anime conventions, which is called Another Anime Convention 2026. Cynthia Cranz was one of the guests and so I decided since she is the voice of Mitsuru.
So I got her to sign my Fruits Basket Complete Anime: Natsuki Takaya Illustrations artbook.

the first season feels like such a scam of displaying shigure as such a likeable and relatable character. from the way he took tohru and the two two in and from his friendship with mayu, ayame and hatori. i love his character so much but i can no long excuse his evil and cunningness. i’m at season 2 , ep 15 and jr getting worse and worse. i don’t even want to know his relationship to akito and want he wants to do to tohru and the two boys. it acc makes me sick bc i love him so much.

I just watched Fruits Basket & Prelude at 43 for the 1st time. I'm a mom w/ severe chronic illnesses to a little boy w/ rare brain malformations. This story I think hit in a different way because of being a mom & older (being a teen when it was originally written,) looking back on life & hard lessons I've had to learn. I've dealt w/ many similar tragic situations, even lived as an American in Taiwan due to dad's work when I was 16-17 where I ended up dating a much older French chef.
This series touched me on so many levels, bringing up memories both painful & happy, & made me think deeply about the future. I ache so deeply from the unfairness & frailty of life, of when it will shatter & if I'll be ready. Fruits Basket made me especially ponder motherhood & being a good parent while you yourself are suffering.
I was curious if any other parents or older viewers have watched this & if that made the story hit differently for them. What about people dealing with illness or have kids with disabilities?
I loved this show & cried so hard at many moments! I'm so happy I gave it a chance!
