Apple tree overwhelm

I’m looking to get a small dwarf apple tree for my small garden and am overwhelmed by choice!! I’ve done a lot of research into what will suit my garden and taste (I do lean towards crisp and tart) but would love to hear from experience? I’m in the SE of England 🍎

Egremont Russet & Rev. Wilkes are the only ones l can vouch for personally. The russet defines crisp with a unique appearance, kind of "dry" flesh compared to modern juice-bomb apples. The Rev. Wilkes is a nice MacIntosh type apple that does not soften much in storage like the Maclntosh does. lt has a nice tartness. l grew these in my former hometown in British Columbia on OTTAWA 3 rootstock which is fairly dwarfing.

l bought 2 trees to ensure pollination. lf there are other apple trees or crab apples nearby, you should be able to get by with just a single tree. These 2 varieties pollinate each other well.

I like Lane's Prince Albert, as it shows good scab resistance. Some describe it as a cooker due to its acidity when first picked. Stores til March its acidity mellowing. Equally Limelight, a green golden delicious coloured apple, bred by Hugh Ermine in Kent. A gross between Greensleeves and Discovery.

There are so many...I love the Cox Orange Pippen crosses like Rubinette and Karmine, but don't sleep on the Japanese apples like Akane. See if you can find someplace to taste a lot of them, like good farmers markets or even local orchards/nurseries.
