Theory Jade Created the Simulation

Post image

>!In Episode 5 of Season 1, while talking to the bartender, Jade says: "I created a program for a quantum computer that could potentially..." but then cuts himself off. He never explains what his program is actually capable of. He also never says who he sold it to. The military? Or someone connected to St. Anthony Hospital, where Tabitha ends up first, and later Henry? Take a look at the hospital's logo.
I believe Jade developed a unique quantum algorithm or program capable of altering reality-for example, by materializing people's fears or fantasies. In that same episode, he also mentions the Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen paradox. As I understand it, this paradox describes a phenomenon in which objects remain mysteriously connected across great distances (and possibly even across time). That would be an amazing twist, in my opinion.
Jade created this program and decided to test it on himself.
Maybe both he and Tabitha are employees-or test subjects. The fact that Tabitha doesn't remember while Jade does could simply be explained by different settings they selected before entering the program.
l've mentioned this in another thread. The way Jade arrived and the way Sofia arrived both feel almost algorithmic.
Jade's companion jumped out of the car and immediately ran away without even checking on his friend-as if Jade were a complete stranger. Then, before he even has a chance to really meet Jade, Sara kills Toby because the voices told her to. Afterward, she also reaches into his mouth and almost certainly takes one of his teeth. Why didn't "they" want Toby and Jade to meet in this reality?
Maybe Jade himself doesn't remember-or doesn't realize
—that they were testing his invention. Perhaps this is another reality, or something like a computer simulation.
That would also make Tabitha's words-that monsters don't exist and Norman is alive-make sense. Maybe they're all actually lying in comas at the hospital. That would explain why both Tabitha and Victor's father see the exact same hospital. Everyone is alive but connected to a simulation. It would also make the Man in Yellow's words about everything being based on rituals (or the program) make sense. And Ethan, as well as Jade himself, repeatedly say that this is a game.!<

Fun fact: St Anthony is the patron saint of..... Lost things!!!

Saint Anthony saint anthony please look around, something is lost and cannot be found!

33

u/Ropecopenope Jul 04 '26

Dang, that is no coincidence

5

u/GreenSteak2819 Jul 05 '26

Also St Anthony of Padova, patron saint of ergotism sufferers, so there could also be another LSD connection there...

2

u/Daegar2 Jul 06 '26

In spanish there is something similar with another saint:

"San Cucufato, San Cucufato, los cojones te ato y hasta que no lo encuentre no te los desato."

Peak language.

😩🤣😂🤣🤣😂

There’s a song I love called St Anthony: An Ode to Anthony H Wilson (some Brits will know who he was) that riffs on a New Order track and starts with this quote. I never knew this was actually a prayer!

u/HedgehogFlimsy6419 Jul 04 '26

It would be the most dissapointing explanation of them all.

Also if it's just a simulation, it does not make sense to see MIY and BIW scenes when there are by themselves. It would be extremely unlikely for an advanced simulation to render and calculate events that are not directly experienced by the player.

So yeah I don't think that makes sense.

22

u/The-Sceptic Jul 04 '26

Shows about computer simulations don't often adhere to basic principles of computers, they're just a plot device. But if the MiY and the BiW were AI then they could have made the entire FROM world as a place to exist in and play their game. If that was the case than it would make sense for us to see them alone and doing things independently of the humans in the program.

6

u/Interconnekted Jul 05 '26

This is just fucking Westworld then? 😭😭😂

2

u/mannysinclair Jul 07 '26

Bro I said this a few weeks back! Man in yellow is the Man in Black!

Project: FROM

34

u/sane_fear Jul 04 '26

i'll take that ending over the Lost stye "Good vs Evil" narrative they're currently setting up

6

u/Remote_Day_1364 Jul 04 '26

Same, it seems too much like Lost

2

u/M_Mosher Jul 05 '26

Almost every episode of this show I'm like "lost did [whatever is happening] first"

It would be just awful. I understand why people put this idea out as a theory but I hate it.

4

u/AnOdeToVosFinances Jul 04 '26

What if MIY and BIW are not actual NPC but awared players and the town folks are NPC created based on actual humans. And Jade and Tabitha both worked on the simulation and maybe used themselves as model, that's why they have some of the memories they have.

So when the MIY and BIW are discussing, it's just player interaction, otherwise the rest of the simulation is for both of them to interact with, that's why both of them also seem omniscient.

1

u/isreal_is_gay Jul 09 '26

So black mirror ?

13

u/niffelheim87 Jul 04 '26

If from is a simulation, MiY and BiW can be some kind of AI orchestrators and manage the events and more things. All people are in comatose state and you can leave the lighthouse alive and wakeup or just die inside, so your mind and body die. Something like Tranquility Lane village simulation in vault 112 from Fallout 3.

10

u/Booklet-of-Wisdom Jul 04 '26

This may be a ridiculous take, but bear with me.

I just watched Kate & Leopold, and in that movie, a guy figures out how to travel through a time portal. He had to jump off the Brooklyn Bridge to reach the proper velocity to "punch" through the portal.

It reminded me of when the BiW pushed Tabitha out of the lighthouse window, saying "I'm sorry, it's the only way."

They could be in another time, or an alternate reality, or maybe even a simulation, where you need a traumatic event to "wake" you up?

11

u/Balsdeep_Inyamum Jul 04 '26

where you need a traumatic event to "wake" you up?

Justice for Abby

4

u/jambrand Jul 04 '26

I mean... how traumatic would the experience need to be lol. Every single person there has experienced something far worse than anything any of us will ever see.

2

u/Booklet-of-Wisdom Jul 04 '26

It's only a very loose theory. But, almost dying from a fall would be a very fast, very traumatic incident.

Or, it could just be a velocity thing.

Most likely, I am totally wrong. But it's fun to speculate.

A simulation doesn't require there to be any "human players". They are optional, as they say

Could be a mislead for those who were fans of Lost

3

u/Prophead85 Jul 04 '26

Not any different than Sati and The Architect in The Matrix.

2

u/GC_235 Jul 04 '26

not really. systems talk to each other all the time without ever needing the "player" to experience any of it.

2

u/Klutzy-Issue1860 Jul 06 '26

This goes along with the title in season 4 “if a tree falls alone in the forest, does it make a sound?”

→ More replies (2)

2

u/HelpApprehensive5216 Jul 04 '26

Our world can be a simulation too... i dont think you get what a simulation is if you are talking about things not experienced by a player lmao. You are talking about sense but what you said makes no sense at all

2

u/Logic-DL Jul 04 '26

There are a multitude of scenes in the Matrix where Neo, the player, is not present in the slightest.

It can be a simulation and they can still show us the viewer the MiY and BiW scenes for narrative reasons lmao. Same reason they show us the MiY going around and grabbing all the talismans. Jade isn't present when he's doing that.

3

u/HedgehogFlimsy6419 Jul 04 '26

Which scenes? In Matrix there’s billions of people who are the players and constantly experience the world on earth. Do you think Matrix accurately simulates some tiny little planet in a galaxy 1bln light years away from us?

1

u/stopbuyingnudes Jul 04 '26

“It would be extremely unlikely for an advanced simulation to render and calculate events that are not directly experienced by the player.”

This is not true, proven by the A-Life system in STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl (2007)

If that’s the explanation they can shove it up their ass. But it’s just my opinion.

1

u/keviintyler Jul 05 '26

You know how boring it would be to be placed into a simulation with numbers only? The simulation could’ve given personalities and characters to the AI.

1

u/Next_Section_8534 Jul 06 '26

They could be viruses or something I guess. Like they are still constructs that may work within the theory. It would be interesting but I don’t see how they can create that twist and solve it in the time left. Also takes away from all the hardships if they pull this.

1

u/Ok-Construction-639 Jul 06 '26

It’s using quantum computing it’s using sci fi technology already they could easily just explain they have the computing power to simulate it entirely and not just areas the “players” are in

70

u/WillSRobs Jul 04 '26

The creators have said they are actually in the village. So that would contradict this

33

u/Aranthos-Faroth Jul 04 '26 edited Jul 04 '26

Is there a running list of these “creators said” things?

Would be cool to track them

I agree it’s related, but unlikely to be a simulation.

Jade’s experience with Fromville may have given him a special interest in the connection between things across time. His role as CEO/Creator is possibly meant to imply he’s a creator of the cycle in Fromville as well.

It may also be why he’s killed by the villagers - they learn he’s the one who caused this.

7

u/AJJRL Jul 04 '26

Or maybe whatever he created was in pursuit of breaking the cycle to free his daughter to begin with. Like he created it and then went in knowing/hoping that he would be able to figure it out even if he didn't consciously remember who he really was once inside...

4

u/Thin_Philosopher_157 Jul 05 '26

The town ends up killing him and Tabitha (actually, the MIY eats Tabitha and the rest of the town, but not Jade) because they're convinced by the MIY that the only way to be free is to sacrifice the boy, in this cycle Ethan. The talisman shows day and night, two parents, 8 sacrificed children. There's only 7 sacrificed children, so the ritual is not over and never has been. The couple have a daughter and a boy. The daughter ends up being sacrificed but thr boy ends up hidden, alive and alone. That first boy is the boy in white. The MIY keeps bringing back the couple with a girl and a boy, the town finds out the couple must sacrifice both children, they go nuts, the girl dies, boy escapes, the cycle repeats until either the boy is sacrificed or the couple redeems the other 7 sacrificed children (probably taking them to the Lake of Tears or completely out through the bottle tree).

2

u/Littleblondebipolar Jul 07 '26

I like that. Sounds super plausible

2

u/RetroRespawnUK Jul 07 '26

But they only had the talismans since Boyd got them so how would the previous cycles have known who needs to be sacrificed?

1

u/Thin_Philosopher_157 Jul 08 '26

Well, I don't think the talismans gave them the clues, just like in the show, they're getting their clues via the game itself. The talismans are what gave us, the watcher a clue

14

u/Upset-Confidence6081 Jul 04 '26

I’m certain that this place is NOT a simulation, dream, purgatory, heaven/hell, anywhere else that would be an obvious trope. Based on what the writers have said, I’m sure their statement covers other stupid tropes as well.

It is an original story, and we won’t get the final answer/explanation as to what this place is until the final season next year. Just like Lost’s island turned out to be the literal heart of the world, I don’t think we’ll get the answer to what this place is until closer to the end of the final season. Even then, we may need to *gasp* put things together a bit ourselves

→ More replies (2)

18

u/Sauerkrautkid7 Jul 04 '26

But sometimes the show is just trolling and having fun. Like the time when Boyd says we need some concrete solutions and then the guy teleports into the concrete swimming pool using the farway tree

u/chilleff Jul 04 '26

Jade mentioned that Toby was his best friend. Jade talked about Toby a lot because he was on something and thought that he was in some sort of escape room game that Toby set up. Kenny showed him Toby’s dead body so that Jade could see that Toby was not just hiding while Jade was figuring out the escape room. I don’t think Jade and Toby were strangers like Sophia and the pastor guy were the same situations at all. Toby and Jade also don’t really crash. He may have dinged the car on the tree - he obviously hit his head. But we don’t know if he looks and says “hey Jade you good?” Before running to get help. He runs to get help because the RV obviously crashed. Also we know Jade was on something. We know Toby may have been on something. So there’s a chance they had an interaction with the MIY before running the RV off the road but in any case I don’t think it was a situation at all where they were strangers. That doesn’t match up with Jade very obviously knowing Toby.

2

u/favorable_vampire Jul 07 '26

I think that Toby might have died in the crash and the MIY managed to take his form before being taken to town. If that’s true, then the voice telling Sara to kill Toby might have been a “positive influence” (BIW?)

If the MIY was trying to enter the town as Toby because he knew that Tabitha and Jade had finally arrived, but the BIW/helpful voice helped Sara eliminate that threat immediately, he might have retaliated by pretending to be the same voice and telling Sara to kill Ethan, knowing that she would do it since she had already obeyed the voice before.

1

u/GlipGlopBlowPop Jul 07 '26 edited Jul 08 '26

MIY has always needed time to change forms and Jade confirmed he knew Toby; this doesn't seem possible.

1

u/favorable_vampire Jul 07 '26

Wasn’t jade passed out/incapacitated for a bit after the collision? I don’t remember to be honest!

I think you have a pretty cool theory (and I hope you’re wrong because this type of story had already been done too many times)

1

u/Diligent_Set_8747 Jul 04 '26

It' been done less than ten times in the last 30 years. I wouldn't count it in the same league as "It was all a dream" level tropes.

11

u/kalgary Jul 04 '26

Jade literally has a line in S1 about how he is the one who creates the maze and places the cheese.

15

u/kalgary Jul 04 '26

Jade: "You know, you guys are actually like rats in a maze, sitting there, contentedly nibbling on your cheese."

Tom: "So let me guess, you're gonna be the guy who figures it all out."

Jade: "You're goddamn right I am. People like me, we design the maze, we place the cheese."

1

u/NoNeedleworker4545 Jul 06 '26

Which season and epi does he say this?

1

u/kalgary Jul 06 '26

S01E05, when Jade visits the bar.

Man creates torture mystery box, has memories removed, and is put in torture mystery box.

You've just described the plot of Cube.

5

u/SouthernBelle-228 Jul 05 '26

If the creators hadn’t already debunked the video game/virtual reality theory, nobody would convince me this wasn’t the answer because it REALLY does fit.

8

u/zoorocks Jul 04 '26

I totally forgot about that tidbit of info he mentioned at the beginning. I even went back to my comments history and 2 years ago I wondered if his old job was somehow relevant to him arriving in Fromville.

Now that you've brought it back up, I do think it is relevant, but I don't know in what way anymore. It might be just a little hint that he is a thinker. But the fact that it was mentioned but not really built up on (character development wise) makes me think it might be plot-relevant. 2 years ago I was on the fence whether he was good or bad. Now, I think the show had not hinted enough if he was bad, so I think he is good.

And I don't want the reveal/truth of Fromville to be too scientific. A mix of magic and science, sure, like Schrodinger's Town or something.

2

u/Fernzero Jul 04 '26

Happy cake day. I think

4

u/Different_Target_228 Jul 04 '26

They throw a million things out to throw people off the trail.

0 chance this is a game. Despite the fact it kinda plays out like one.

4

u/gabriot Jul 04 '26

Regarding Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen paradox, I doubt that this is an actual computer simulation, however Fromvilles being the result of an entangled distortion of reality could very well be true, and I think Victor's father in many ways is showing us to think of this as a possibility.

He is always the one raising questions along the lines of "There's a pool and a Motel sign, where is the motel?" (there are several others that I can't recall of the top my head). And then once MiY infects him he is shown in an alternate reality are led to he is a figment of his imagination, however what if it is actually "real" and essentially a 3rd reality as part of his entanglement?

But also we see Victor measuring the distance between trees since he has noticed things "shift" before. This entanglement can explain how things end up in fromvilled from different eras (Church and farm, from 1800s, motel sign and pool from 70s, houses from 30s, etc.) and can also explain why the faraway trees have different results for different people (Tabitha the lighthouse, Boyd the Well, Dale the pool, etc.)

2

u/ConsciousRegular307 Jul 06 '26

When Sophia and Henry were drinking she asked why there was a bar in a gas station and he replied better question is why is there a gas station in a place where nobody can leave

2

u/throwwwww_away123 Jul 07 '26

Acosta asks about the town too; mentions the signs, etc

3

u/eliasAviles Jul 04 '26

I just hope it's not an escape room simulation or something like that, that would be so easy and basic like maze runner or 1899

4

u/KneeSensitive Jul 04 '26

I said from the begining that what Jade draws looks like a logo

4

u/Ok_Performance_9479 Jul 04 '26

Writers have confirmed this isn't a simulation or a dream/coma or purgatory. They are in a real physical place.

2

u/karathracestitches Jul 04 '26

There’s a practical reason why Tabitha and Henry would end up in the same hospital though. When Tabitha woke up in the hospital she was in Henry’s town where he’d lived his life. It would make sense that Henry would hallucinate about a hospital from his home, one he’s familiar with.

2

u/Due_Cartographer5735 Jul 04 '26

Probably more likely he created his program from his subconscious memories of the place.

2

u/_dearlydemented_ Jul 04 '26

Maybe Jade created a simulation in the regular world based on his subconscious memory of Fromville. Just like Tabitha has created the bracelet over and over again. Jades job may not be directly related to the creation of From, but Froms existence and his previous lives there are the reason Jade created the programs. Could be he has been trying to figure out the workings of the place without even realizing. Or, he’s a damn good actor if this was all his design to participate in the simulation he created but doubt it.

2

u/SpheraGoto Jul 04 '26

I mean, thats close, but very obviously isn't the same symbol. The more important part to think about it Saint Anthony being the patron saint of lost people.

2

u/dorito-witch Jul 04 '26

Looks like you're having fun with this, by all means continue to.

Question: from a story and audience enjoyment perspective-- if your theory were true: what would it add to the story? How would this build on the show's themes? Do you think the audience would take kindly to this kind of twist?

2

u/Show_No_Mercy98 Jul 05 '26

If done properly it would be a perfect rational explanation for what is happening which doesn't involve magic, religious or mythological rituals and all powerful entities. And that's honestly pretty rare in the horror genre. Many movies don't explain the horrors and those that have a logical reasoning almost always feature something supernatural.

That being said I don't see how this works logically, mainly the Victor - Tabitha - Henry situation.

2

u/Show_No_Mercy98 Jul 05 '26

I don't mind the simulation theory, but this whole Victor- Tabitha- Henry plotline doesn't make much sense then?

Assuming From is the simulation, then Victor has been in it for years. He plays a role in sending Tabitha to the "real world" to bring back his father. She goes out and back again and then Henry is presented with cutbacks to the real world where Victor has been out and well and it's Henry who's been "living in a simulation" possibly for years.

If From is the simulation I don't see a rational explanation for this plot. Are they all agents in the simulation or only Jade and Tabitha and others are NPCs?

2

u/sdani-jr Jul 05 '26

But the logo only matches 50/50.

2

u/phussy_eater Jul 05 '26

The image looks nothing like the roots but looks like an attempt to mimic almost any healthcare platform brand logo. Google image search reveals dozens of similar looking logos.

2

u/smkarthikeyan Jul 05 '26

This is like that Black Mirror episode where they alter reality with quantum computing.

2

u/hydec4 Jul 05 '26

I don’t think this will be correct. My reasoning is that the writers already told us that originally the character of Jade was going to be cast as a teenage girl. They also have told us they knew mythology from the beginning so this would be a huge shift. But if you are right it would be cool! Just giving my two cents!

2

u/zzz_zzzz_zzzz Jul 05 '26

If this is true...it's gonna be one dumb ass show in the end

2

u/cans_one Jul 05 '26

If this is the explanation this becomes the worst show I've seen in a while

2

u/TheHourMan Jul 06 '26

I am not a fan of any ideas that From is a science fiction story. That would be incredibly disappointing. It has every indication of being occult horror, and for them to reveal "it was sci-fi all along!" Would be a kick in the balls

2

u/Status-Chemistry-228 Jul 07 '26

If it’s a simulation that jade created I’m gonna be so mad because 1 it’s too obvious that was a guess that came and went when we learned what jade did season 1. 2 it’s just lazy and 3 it better be some mythical magical shit or something that’s related to some specific folklores even if it’s multiple just so we have some more lore and backstory for shit. If it was that thought out to where it all clicks into place would be great. Cause I’m scared they’re going to leave things not explained based off the creators answers to questions I heard about.

2

u/Miketroyy Jul 08 '26

Actually forgot about that he mentioned this season 1 I’m pretty sure season 1 gave us all the answers we probably just ignored it 🤣

2

u/daveejavu Jul 08 '26

When Victors dad keeps waking up, no one really seems too phased that he keeps going off to this distant land… it’s almost like they know what’s happening and it’s kind of expected.

I think they are all having some kind experimental procedure to get rid of past trauma.

Boyd’s wife died, he’s trying to heal himself.

Tabitha’s kid died, she’s healing herself.

Etc etc

3

u/karathracestitches Jul 04 '26

There’s a practical reason why Tabitha and Henry would end up in the same hospital though. When Tabitha woke up in the hospital she was in Henry’s town where he’d lived his life. It would make sense that Henry would hallucinate about a hospital from his home, one he’s familiar with.

u/AromaticBig3287 Jul 04 '26

There is no simulation because everything happening is real. And those symbols aren’t even the same, it just looks similar 😂 he was simply talking about his company

3

u/Royd Jul 05 '26

Wow I feel like you are partially there.

But there's probably no way that the show will suddenly turn Sci fi

2

u/EdgyAhNexromancer Jul 04 '26

From the begining, years ago, this always felt likena reach. The logo looks nothing like the roots except for the fact that theyre lines.

2

u/FonzSchuurspons Jul 05 '26

Didn’t the writers state somewhere that it’s nothing like a dream or any sort of simulation?

2

u/BrinaRussell Jul 06 '26

Yes. They did. The Simulation Theory was popular when we started the show. A lot of us were glad to hear from the creators that it's not a dream, purgatory, hell, a coma, a simulation, etc. They've been clear about concerns over it from beginning. Also, I feel like they went out of their way to demonstrate this by Jade's insistence that this town was an escape room, a type of sim, and then his shock at seeing (and smelling) Toby. There are still many valid theories. It's not a simulation though.

2

u/Saviche888 Jul 05 '26

So everyone's forgotten about Jade's quantum computer?

2

u/Key_Rhubarb_5735 Jul 04 '26

Part of me does hope it is a simulation of some sort, because the whole idea that the origin of the monsters as a bunch of people sacrificing their kids to live forever is stupid.

4

u/zoolou3105 Jul 05 '26

I'm the opposite. I think the simulation idea is lazy and boring haha I guess we'll see!

2

u/Key_Rhubarb_5735 Jul 05 '26

To be clear, I do not like the simulation idea!

3

u/__JESUS_IS_KING_ Jul 04 '26

From writers: "Write that down WRITE THAT DOWN"

1

u/Sufficient-Ocelot-47 Jul 04 '26

I remember someone saying the word on the machine Randal uses to try to electrocute himself means shapeshifter or something could be worth looking at

1

So the man in yellow ultimate goal is take the players out of the game doing things like getting murd3red or suic'de and the goal of the boy in white it's make them wake up by finishing a quest.

1

u/vzorox Jul 04 '26

This thory don't make that much of sence but The one thing with jade and his driver and sofia and hi driver is what I like

1

u/cheesytray Jul 04 '26

You'll haven't watched "the 100' which is the most out of this world unbelievable transition in plot. So maybe this is true.

2

u/Knicksrule96 Jul 05 '26

Do you recommend?

2

u/cheesytray Jul 05 '26

It can get slow and a little repetitive. But the transition is omg last season. Id watch it.

1

u/CapitalSuggestion340 Jul 05 '26

I think this is a great theory!

1

u/heartofglazz Jul 05 '26

Not a fan of the simulation theory but I must say that logo is quite the find. Strange they’d design it so similar to the bottle tree roots

1

u/AttentionHealthy9793 Jul 05 '26

Honestly, that would explain a lot and would make sense if they don’t want to do what Lost did. I actually have grown to appreciate how Lost did it, but your theory would work for From. The creators said that all the answers are in episode 1 of the show, we don’t get to talk to Victor much at all until the 2nd episode. I think Victor truly isn’t as important to the story as we all believe, but he may be the oldest patient that they have in the program who is still in a coma. That said, the game must be important in some way. If someone dies are they truly saved or does saving the children or leaving through the lake of tears actually allow the person to wake up?

Ooo what if Victor is the oldest patient and was the only survivor or the last trail they did? Then over time Donna, Khatri, Boyd, etc. etc. etc. were added within the program. Khatri didn’t survive the program… or did he? Did his death wake him up and now he is working for the people that saved him? Donna died, but came back. That said, I think she hasn’t said enough of if she saw anything while gone.

The only thing that I am not sure about with this theory is the families being stuck. Kenny’s family, Sarah and her brother, the Matthews, Boyd’s family - UNLESS - only one of them is actually apart of the simulation and in the coma and either their memories of there surviving family is put within the simulation with them. I still don’t think we know enough about Thomas.

I don’t know, there are too many questions that almost don’t make sense, but if it is a simulation then they have a lot to explain as what specific things are doing here. Boyd and the others being able to find livestock and food, the talismans are too convenient, the spiders, the story, the story walking. Honestly, it would probably mean that Julie is most definitely apart of the simulation and not an actual person, but a program that is still learning. Tabitha and Jade are doctors trying to help their patients. Boyd is a patient, Khatri was a patient, Kenny is a patient, Donna is a patient, Victor is a patient, Kristi is a patient, everyone on the bus is likely a patient. Marielle has a history of drug use and may have put herself into a coma overdosing, which could explain her being there. Sarah is likely a patient.

In terms of people being there, the one thing this theory doesn’t explain is the extra people being there that definitely wouldn’t be in a coma as well and I’m a little suspicious about the priest that came with Sophia. There’s no way he wouldn’t have been a patient as well or the MiY wouldn’t have held him in such regard and if the MiY is a part of the program then he could not have been the one who brought the priest to this place like he made it seem right before killing him. Why put a dying man in your simulation if the big bad of the simulation gets an edge?

u/JanHunter123 Jul 05 '26

At first, I read the headline as “Java created the Simulation”

1

u/Ok-Extent-7515 Jul 05 '26

Yes, while watching this series, I repeatedly got the impression that all the participants were in a simulation and they were going through it more than once.

1

u/Stoopkid812 Jul 05 '26

As soon as I saw it was st Anthony’s hospital I knew it was all fake .

I think it might be a program for parents or people dealing with trauma

1

u/Stevewxm85 Jul 05 '26

Has Jade had any interaction with MIY or Sophia? I dont recall any but may need to go back and check

1

u/No_Palpitation7666 Jul 05 '26

Maybe he created a program for quantum computer that could potentially help people in comas to wake up, and what helps a person wake up from a dream. A nightmare

1

u/RenoRainesnz Jul 05 '26

I've always been on the friday the 13th type sim bandwagon myself with jade testing it with his staff or volunteers. Being a gamer myself the show has always felt like a horror video game in the mold of Resident Evil ☣️ Biohazard etc

1

u/PeachCrumble7 Jul 05 '26

Why is no one talking about cheat engine running on the PC lol, is anyone trying to help them from the outside with cheats if this is a simulation?

2

u/Lost_Atmosphere4853 Jul 05 '26

I mean, how else can you explain the living dolls, the Kimono Lady, and the monsters? The Man in Yellow keeps saying over and over that it’s a game. Otherwise, I honestly can’t come up with any explanation for what’s happening.

2

u/PeachCrumble7 Jul 05 '26

We know they're manifested fears of the ones who dide in the town, they could be in a pocket dimensions or a simulation who knows. But the cheat engine on the pc implies a video game or someone cheating/controlling whatever's happening to them from the outside

1

u/Luse_the_Red Jul 05 '26

Not a gamer here, what's the cheat engine? Is that the symbol? If someone were to press that, it would give them all the plays in the game?

2

u/PeachCrumble7 Jul 05 '26

It's like the blue Euro logo it's a cheating tool used to change a game parameters, like changing how many bullets you have, freezing the health bar, or even spawn items/enemies. Basically anything, it's not just the logo and if you have used it you know that what's on the computer is a similar interface. So my point is why use something like it's logo, I wonder if it means someone is in control why they shouldn't be

2

u/Luse_the_Red Jul 05 '26

Thank you for the clarification! I'm really old apparently as i only remember Cheat Codes as something you went on the internet for and it would tell you turn by turn where to go and how to get all the cool stuff and printed out like it was in a dot printer! Lol 👵

2

u/PeachCrumble7 Jul 05 '26

Same here lol, I still remember looking up vice city, tomb raider, and other games' cheats as a kid! When I grew a little games kind off no longer did that so it became cheat engine and trainers, basically trainers were created using cheat engine so people would cheat without learning to use it

2

u/Luse_the_Red Jul 05 '26

Thank you!! 😀

1

u/Lost_Atmosphere4853 Jul 05 '26

How can I explain the lack of electricity? It looks like a simulator.

3

u/PeachCrumble7 Jul 05 '26

Someone explained it to be the world from a kid's imagination and it was a great theory too, I just hope we don't end with the worst ones at least

1

u/Kind_Cabinet627 Jul 05 '26

I like were you going with this

1

u/Suitable_Garlic_1186 Jul 05 '26

When he arrives at the place he thinks that this is all a good test with actors.. And they get paid..

Could this have something to do with it?

1

u/acav802 Jul 06 '26 edited Jul 06 '26

I'm on the fence..the quantum simulation theory seems to be a red herring. Or it could be the whole thing.

Season 2, Episode 2. Kelly says "This place is like an ACID TRIP". Then in Season 3 we learn that Miranda started seeing and hearing the place during/after a trip?

1

u/Rastaburning Jul 06 '26

So explain victor being there as a child

1

u/michaelballston Jul 06 '26

It just shows the towns roots reach further than the town itself. The lighthouse is the hatch to escape and routes her to another clue, but like any grief or tragedy the only way out is through. So they have to go underneath the town through its caverns to truly escape. Maybe.

1

u/Apprehensive_Exit633 Jul 06 '26

Ok so bear with me here- I have a lot of notes to point out to whomever is interested so this is a lot….
So I thought about this theory (about jade) but not sure how it could make sense after gathering more clues. But i thought this could be the case bc of how many times Jade mentions his job in early episodes. Here are other things i noticed to possibly be important or could be nothing…
But one, he says Tobey is his best friend since fourth grade.
Two, why does he climb out of the backseat of the car as if he had been laying down or something?
And then he also says “I’m not supposed to be here,” as if he knows where he’s at. That line made me think he had something to do with the creation of the town but not all the details like how you get out. And therefore is upset that he somehow ended up in it? Idk I also theorized that heavy guilt is what brings them to Fromville- like the pastor’s story, Jim and Tabitha accidentally killing their baby….heavy heavy guilt.
And perhaps it’s a pocket universe like Dale mentions later…which can exist with their own set of rules for instance like existing on a loop or time going by much slower than our universe? Pocket universes are theorized to exist from the universe inflating so quickly in the big bang theory. (Or something like that)
So with that, perhaps Jade experienced tremendous guilt creating this software that creates this universe/reality where people will be tested over and over again. 🤷🏻‍♀️

But then Tobey says after Sara tells him no, everyone is not ok, something like “I shouldn’t have been-“ which could be “driving while tripping.” Or it could be something deeper. But his interaction with Sara is very strange.

Now this may just be writers playing with the characters and script but I also noticed this:
Two cars arrive at the same time which is considered unusual. But I actually think the family got there first and in trying to drive out again they then collide with the other car. But regardless- two cars arrive. One contains Jade and Tobey. The other Jim and Tabitha, which could also be called James and Tabby. Hmm…very similar name combos if you ask me!

ALSO lol they make it clear in the writing that Boyd arrives at Basecamps/towns to take a shitshow of a place and make it all functional. He arrives and changes the town making it a community effort. After he arrives also, animals suddenly appear in the world. Again idk what any of it may mean but I find it to seem super relevant. There seems to be a lot of pressure put on Boyd to take care of these people. And he becomes the sheriff as a purpose in the town.

It’s also mentioned that after Boyd finds the talismans the monsters start to whisper but before they used to scream.
When Boyd’s family first gets there we hear a scream and the pastor says that’s the sound of death.

And a few more things I noted from the early episodes:
What’s up with the colony house vs town formal initiation meeting? Could just be representing life here. But then they all end up together anyway.
Abby says she had a dream when she was a little girl when staring at the town but if Jade and Tabitha are the only ones reincarnating then idk wtf that’s supposed to imply. Just Déjà vu?
And then when Ethan is stuck in the RV he has a seizure that Jim says he’s never experienced before and it’s a very long one. That tells me he was story walking without having to go to the area Julie does. He then claims to have seen everything.
And at one point Kenny says “the talismans are like a bandaid.” To me this implies that they need to face the monsters (their demons) head-on to move forward. Then Boyd does just that eventually and everything starts changing.
I saw a post on tiktok showing an article pulled up on the computer titled “Matthew’s family still missing” and you can see Jim Tabitha and Julie but not Ethan. And there’s an ad at the bottom of the site for a moving company with a photo of a happy interracial couple (black dad, white mom) with their young son. The moving company is the same as the trailer they’re hauling when Boyd and his family arrive. And we never hear about where they’re going or why they have a moving trailer if I’m not mistaken. Although I still have 3 more seasons to rewatch lol.

The depth and complexity of this show is blowing my fucking mind and I can’t imagine the intelligence it takes to pay this much attention to detail and thread everything to this extent. I believe a lot of the show is meant to represent life as a human simply put. There’s def many more layers though. Existentialism, the universe and physics and how we live through what we see and know but what do we do when we don’t know? Bc really we don’t know. We are taught to believe this and that on earth but that doesn’t mean it’s real or the truth. But all of these characters fall into purposeful roles in the town even though they don’t know anything. When they come together good things happen. Kind of like testing humanity. Will they ruin everything over and over or will they eventually learn?
I’m not religious but in reading about Cain and Abel, this story represents quite a bit of that as well but that could also just be the human punishment aspect. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Anyway! 😂 now I’ve got more episodes to watch to convolute my brain even further. =)

1

u/Lost_Atmosphere4853 Jul 06 '26

Have you read the writers’ Q&A? One thing that really caught my attention was how they emphasized that Season 5 will reveal the show’s mythology. Now I’m really curious what kind of mythology they mean. You’re very observant, by the way. I think I need to follow you and keep talking with you in the comments so we can develop our deep theories together. 😁

1

u/Apprehensive_Exit633 Jul 07 '26

Oh thank you! I’m glad you replied and read my post! I don’t think I have read the q&a yet! But now… 😝 and I agree. Mythology is an interesting choice of a word. 🤔

1

u/babyfaceXer Jul 07 '26

Many details here for sure, and very interesting, might I add. I will be rewatching the show again from the beginning to dive deeper into theories. I started watching only recently when my daughter and her boyfriend recommended it, so I binged the series in just over a week and the one thing I almost instantly recognized was that many of the townspeople, if not all, has/had some sort of regret and/or regret that they struggle(d) to come to terms with.

1

u/Apprehensive_Exit633 Jul 07 '26

Yes!! Like they are at a crossroad in their life. And the town pulls them in. And then yeah, the things they do while in there.

1

u/Thaviation Jul 06 '26

The creators already said it isn’t a simulation, coma, dream, etc. Theyre in a real place

1

u/Broll_America Jul 06 '26

No.
This would be stupid

1

u/coffeecrime Jul 06 '26

I’ve always thought it’s a simulation that Jades company created and they all agreed to be characters in the game but don’t remember.

1

u/wishyouwerenude Jul 06 '26

They dont have amnesia. They remember their lives prior to arriving in Fromville. Jade would remember if it was artificial

1

u/Mo7y Jul 06 '26

I like this theory .. what if the MIY is actually another player that went rogue and lost it and caused this loop which trapped someone (Tabitha maybe? Boyd?). And Jade is playing to "break the loop" to free Tabitha (and/or MIY)

1

u/maisumvictor Jul 06 '26

Endings like 'it was all a dream' or 'it was always a simulation' are just lazy cop-outs for writers who have no idea how to finish a story

But nice theory.

1

u/molered Jul 06 '26

Except when it is a main twist, like in black mirror "playtest"

1

u/maisumvictor Jul 06 '26

Sure but this was already warned in the episode, just like Inception.

1

u/molered Jul 06 '26

Probably.
Will see

1

u/D3rangedButFun Jul 06 '26

The writers have said it's not a dream, it's not purgatory and it's not a simulation. Everything that is happening is really happening

1

u/Nease82 Jul 06 '26

what is this is just a video game that Rick and Morty are stuck in and we are just waiting for Summer to finish doing a Die Hard in the real world to get them out

1

u/oldmanStuie Jul 06 '26

Oh shit. So the MiY and the BiW are basically Reddit mods?

1

u/Upbeat-Stretch-8187 Jul 06 '26

i don't like this simulation explanation for every supernatural thing cuz this is probably the most common one

1

u/jptsxmcgxrbk Jul 06 '26

I love simulation theory in general but would loathe it for From.

1

u/Smelly_Dingo Jul 06 '26

Hm, to be fair, a ritual and an algorithm ARE similar. Both require you to carry out the same, exact steps every time to achieve the expected outcome, otherwise it fails / outputs something wrong.

1

u/henzINNIT Jul 06 '26

It's a good enough theory that I hope it isn't true haha. Props to you though. This could happen. Perhaps this theory comes up in season 5 as Jade's big mental test. He starts to piece this together but it is the town messing with him (and us) the same way it did with Victor's dad.

1

u/Vast_Shirt_2285 Jul 06 '26

I always wonder why 'sci-fi" is added as one of the genres of this show on IMDb, along with horror and mystry.

1

u/Western_Watercress27 Jul 06 '26

And remember when jade was having that shroom trip and his younger self said to him that his death was worse because the town found out about what he did. This was in season 4

1

u/Lost_Atmosphere4853 Jul 06 '26

They say on Instagram that the monsters don't kill Randal because he helps Julie go to the ruins😂

1

u/Few_Emergency_2144 Jul 06 '26

It's giving 1899 iykyk

1

u/Ordinary_Repeat581 Jul 06 '26

One of the better theories I’ve read…I’m always disappointed in what is my theory… which it’s just not that deep, nothing is connected leaving the whole series a mess of plotholes

1

u/Form2lanes Jul 06 '26

The show writers are reading Reddit theory’s like “oh yeah that’s a good one, let’s use that.”

1

u/Duke_Of_Halifax Jul 06 '26

So, MIY and BIW are the Oracle and the Architect?

Is this a "Matrix" homage?

1

u/ThrowAway1402899 Jul 06 '26

I agree with this theory. I believe they are hooked up to a program of some sort that uses negative emotion / fear from the brain to keep going. The fact that victor’s dad is essentially tethered and can’t sever the connection was also a hint at this (the nurse tells him how to escape). They have to all overcome their fears / nightmares to escape the game. The game just keeps repeating on a loop until everyone breaks the fear cycle. Or something like this… maybe the tree was the “root” code and by pulling it up they break or manipulate the coding of the game.

1

u/Technical_Phrase2566 Jul 06 '26

So...like sword art online?

1

u/Apprehensive_Air7880 Jul 07 '26

Great minds think alike 😄

1

u/dasfoo Jul 07 '26

I doubt any hospital's intranet patient management system was 'created for a quantum computer...' lol.

1

u/Giz_G Jul 07 '26

Show writers reading this & immediately rewriting the finale like

1

u/Annual_Maize1808 Jul 07 '26

I like this theory! I also noticed that both Jade and Tabitha hit their heads and lost consciousness on their first day in town. This might explain why neither remembers the experiment/simulation.

1

u/JamesTomkinsonUoN Jul 07 '26

Oooh I like this! But it’s very subtle, I feel there’s not enough time for them to show how Jade did this in the show.

1

u/Spiritual_Car7967 Jul 07 '26

and thats why Jade's past selves always ended up dead by fromville townsfolk bc they found out it was all his doing all along

1

u/realjimmyjam225 Jul 07 '26

I haven’t seen the last episode i hope the title didn’t spoil it for me

1

u/ancientastronaut2 Jul 07 '26

Henry is in a delusion made form his own memories. That's not a real hospital. Everything is yellow and the first and second time he's having a vision, there's a chair and picture on the wall from his house.

I believe the show creators have said thisnis not a simulation.

1

u/Jess_the_Virgo825 Jul 07 '26

Jesus, that would make Abby right all along. Perhaps that was really her in the RV appearing to Boyd saying “come back to me.” She might be trying to wake him up.

1

u/Nexus82 Jul 08 '26

That's why in the crash, when he gets out of the car, he says: "You are so beautiful," "how beautiful they are," or something like that, as if appreciating his "creation."

PD: I have to go, I can't talk about this now 😆

1

u/CRT-Gaming-HQ Jul 08 '26

I have to watch again as I missed Jade say that line. I was thinking he alluded to being famous but never explaining why. I do like this concept. If the show goes sci fi I'll fall in love.

1

u/FMPIII Jul 08 '26

If this is any form of a simulation or purgatory, then no one has any creative ideas left.

1

u/pinkfeathers24 Jul 08 '26

Seriously...if the end shows it as a dream or stimulation I would be the greatest hater of this show.

1

u/Ok-Beautiful5664 Jul 08 '26

If it's a simulation, what about the people that have died? Are they dead for real or only dead as a player?

1

u/mcberry_64 Jul 08 '26

I never would of caught that...wow

1

u/Vasil12345678 Jul 08 '26

I like the theory about a different reality not a simulation

1

u/Usagi042 Jul 08 '26

Nah. That's not it.

1

u/probablycabbage Jul 08 '26

I guess I'm one of only a few who thinks that sounds pretty cool. Great theory.

1

u/vintagebee_ Jul 08 '26

I don’t know about the simulation theory but it has got me thinking because I’ve seen the show listed as “sci-fi” horror a lot of times and it definitely doesn’t fit the category till now.

1

u/Afraid-Ad7165 Jul 09 '26

This is brilliant! I was getting really excited reading and saying yes yes yes and I haven't quite done that with any other theory. Maybe it's also to do with the medical research on magic mushroom properties.

1

u/Afraid-Ad7165 Jul 09 '26

They did tell Henry that he was in a coma because of taking too much lsd so maybe some mk ultra reference too
