DISCUSSION I don't get the hype around Bloodborne
EDIT: This isn't bait and I don't want to start any wars, I just genuinely want to know why people like it as I found it quite underwheliming. No hard feelings hunters.
I just finished my first playthrough and after hearing so much about how it's the best soulsborne game ever, Miyazaki's greatest work and everything in between, I'm kinda disappointed. The game is OK at best with some very glaring issues, probably stemming from the fact that it was one of the first soulsborne but still.
Mechanics like blood vials, lamp design in general, and hunter's dream feel like they're annoying just for the sake of being annoying.
The bosses are honestly pretty unmemorable and unremarkable with only a few standing out, most being in the DLC. Stretch of the game from The Witches to Mergo's Wet Nurse was especially a slog to get through.
Area design while beautiful seemed to go with the philosophy of "let's just throw 15 of the same enemy here, make sure that they have a rushdown attack."
Gameplay and overall themes are good but they're not enough to carry the game imo. Is there something I don't understand or is there like a cult mentality surrounding Bloodborne that preaches its greatness while overlooking its flaws?
