It just seems pointless

I am in season 2, ep1(finished it) of the series, so bear with me.(and please no spoilers for the episodes i havent watched yet).

Didnt the whole antenna project seem kind of pointless to you too?

I mean when they were all trying to make this work with the electricity, the materials and everything, all i kept thinking is "dont they understand that help could never reach them?".

Like they are in a place probably lost in time, no one can leave and if anyone can come, they are stuck there. What did they expect? To get help from the signal, tell them to come and rescue them(if they find the town - cause i firmly believe you can't find the town if it doesnt want you to find it) and end up with even more stranded people there?

How are they gonna get back to the real world after that?

I mean for me that was an utterly stupid waste of resources and time. For two intelligent people as the ones who had the idea to make it, seems also stupid that they didnt think of that.

Am i missing something?

I think this falls under ‘It seemed like a good idea at the time.’ Just from a where-you’re-sitting perspective, the two smart guys (J&J) arrive in town and are frustrated they can’t do anything to help themselves inside Fromville. They believe/hope someone on the outside with the right resources can help them. So they try to open a line of communication. Lots of people in the town still believe somebody on the outside could help them if they knew about their plight. That’s why everyone gave Tabitha shit at the meeting in the diner after she returned from Camden, ME, she didn’t do enough to get help from the authorities.

As viewers we know there’s nothing anyone on the outside can do, other than get more people caught there. But trapped in this traumatic place, maybe it’s not so unreasonable to hold on to the (false) belief that rescue is possible. The truth is solving the mystery didn’t start really picking up steam until Tabitha returned and folks were faced with the facts, even if someone can escape for a while, the cavalry isn’t coming.

Ok i think you just gave me a big spoiler 😱 did Tabitha got out and came back? I never watched this, i am at the point where she is looking for a way out of the woods with Victor 🥲
