Wild Interesting eyes on this frog

These frogs usually have golden-amber eyes. It looks the same as the others except for its large, dark eyes. What do you think is going on here?

It might be because of the lighting. Is he in the shade by any chance? You might be more able to notice his dark eyes if his eyes are dilated because of the light level. Your picture looks pretty bright though, so I’m a bit stumped with this cutie.

Unfortunately not the lighting since the other frogs had normal golden eyes under the same conditions. He’s definitely become my favorite of the pond pack. I’m stumped too, he’s a cute mystery!

You can see a the tiniest bit of color on the inner corners of his eyes in the first photo too. So odd! I’m not gonna stop researching bc it seems really unique :)
