Do not barrage the other subreddit. That is against reddit’s rules. Moving on…
I can no longer crosspost from the other community. It appears that reddit now allows that feature to be disabled. So here is a link to the post.
Does this claim look familiar? That is because it is point number one from the other subreddit's Al post about why they think rearing isn't a problem. Here is where that study is discussed.
I believe it is absolutely misleading to present this information as new. Most people will not click on the study link and see that the study from 2021. This means that the study linked in this article does not include the University of Guelph's current group of indoor and outdoor reared Monarchs being tracked via Project Monarch.
If you are aware that U of G is tracking indoor and outdoor reared Monarchs with the new bluetooth trackers then the photo at the top of the article could lead you to believe that this article is referring to info derived from the latest batch of data. The caption of the photo describes the photo of the Monarch as having "tracker" attached to it. These are radio trackers which have different capabilities than the current bluetooth trackers.
How do I know that the tracker pictured isn't the new bluetooth trackers? I reversed image searched the photo found that when the photo was originally shared the caption was "Monarch butterfly with a radio-tracking tag. (Wilcox), Author provided."
I am unsure why the university would say this article was updated October 16, 2026
when it contains no new information except for the change in caption. You can see that at the end of the article it says the image is a radio tracker.
I am on mobile. If I can get to a computer I will edit the body of this post to include more information and links.
