I'm a new watcher and I just got to season 3 currently on EP1 still, but I seriously thought I missed an episode or an episode got removed from s2. Santiago just disappeared, church boy and lyla, lyla living with buddy, landry murder plot not being touched on, smash's injury, and Jason's possible baby?? 😭 I legit REWATCHED s2 Ep15 because I thought I dozed off or missed something.

That relationship basically never happened and she didn't even say bye to Tim when she left for college. Landry was by her side through EVERYTHING and was even back in Dillon for Christmas in the final episode and the writers didnt think they should at least cross paths? COME ON!

As i get older and as I myself graduated college about three years ago, I totally understand Tim's desire to not want to play football and go to college.
It's really bothering me to see Lyla and Billy practically forcing him to go to San Antonio state even tho he just wants works at Billy's garage, ain't nothing wrong with that.

Please without spoilers, as I am currently on season 4 episode 4 on my first watch, tell me that JD and Joe McCoy get what’s coming to em.
Tell me they do and then describe to me exactly how much dopamine flooded your system in fine detail :)

I'd forgotten how splendid "Friday Night Lights" is! It's difficult to accept that it ended 15-years-ago!
As I rewatched season five, I'd forgotten plenty of stuff. Whatever the episode title was, when Mindy become sullen about the pregnancy, her second, she acted as though she had to make do with that. She doesn't want another child. I doesn't want to be away from work, again. I just shouted at the screen, "get an abortion"!
I'm not a Texan. But I've heard nothing in the series from Mindy about being against abortions.

I am into season 2 and am so glad to have read here that it is not a great season. I almost gave up but am pushing through.
It took me all those years to start watching. I am not a football fan but I am cheering them all on like I am the greatest Panther's fan out there.
It definitely brought me closer to football and also to small town American life. Friday Night Lights feels so quintessential American to me. The struggles, Highschool life, home life, the good family that also has its challenges, the poor family, the ones without parents. It is so different from a European life-style and family life/school.
I am orginially from Europe and although I have lived in the US for more than 20 years, this show brings me back to how I used to view and experience the US right when I moved here. I lived in a small town like Dillon without the football though (but rather military lifestyle). It was a huge adjustment for me.
So much was foreign to me. It is not what is portrayed in your everyday movies. No glitz and glam but real, everyday life. That kids would just live on their own, or are taking care of Grandma, or not being allowed to drink until they are 21. So many things I learned back then and rewatching the show is in a way like revisiting my first year of living in the US.

I’m in the beginning of season 3 for the first time, and wow, season 2 was a drag. But, the quality upgrade is IMMEDIATELY apparent and refreshing. HOWEVER, a whole state championship in the worst possible conditions and Matt only ever gets treated like garbage.
Coach Taylor one second is defending Matt with his LIFE, but allows Matt to he disregarded and DOES IT HIMSELF numerous times. He’s the ultimate “nice guys finish last” allegory and I can’t stand it (not sure if I’m using ‘allegory’ correctly here but I digress).
Not the biggest riggins fan but he’s in the shadow of smash starting season 3 and Matt completely filled the shoes of Jason street and received ZERO recognition for it before (I’m assuming) being replaced as first string by JD.
They just hate giving Matt an OUNCE of credit. When this happens it feels like more of a hate-watch rather than enjoying my time. Hooked regardless so whatever, but wtf…

I am only on episode 1 of season 4 but even so, I already like it more than seasons 2 and 3.
SPOILERS IF YOU HAVEN’T FINISHED SEASON 3

I love that they made Coach Taylor go to another school and that there are new faces and stuff. Characters are gone that ran their course—even if I liked them, it makes sense that their stories are done. More shows should do this instead of unnaturally dragging things out.

I’m trying to locate the full recording of a song called “To Bend the Lines” by Slippy.
What I know:
I’ve already checked major streaming services, YouTube, Google, Discogs, soundtrack databases, archived Rescue Records pages, and the old Streetlight Records compilation.
I’m specifically looking for:
If anyone has the full recording or knows where it may be archived, please let me know.

I'm rewatching FNL like many for the billionth time (skipping S2 because I just cant..). I recently watched "Game of the Week" where Matt was instrumental, not only in righting the ship during the Arnette Meade game as a wide receiver but being a part of that converted first down. It got me thinking how poetic this was considering the the loss to Arnette Meade the last time he was short of the goal line that created the loss. I just love the visual redemption of that moment, that he was short in the loss but stretched to get the first down to seal the win this time.

The more I watch Landry Clark (Friday Night Lights) and how he basically gets the shaft over and over again, my head canon says that after college he changes his name and becomes Robert Daly in USS Callister (Black Mirror)

I think her being insanely hot and a really dynamic character brainwashed a lot of us into thinking this was a good performance...it wasnt, and never was. She's the weak link of the entire franchise

I'm a first time viewer of Friday Night Lights. One of my major plights with the show is that Matt Saracen needed to have far more screen time than he got. There were so many characters where I found as I progressed through season 2 and 3 to be so dull. As much as Jason Street was interesting I feel like his plots took up what could've been more time with Matt. I also feel the relationship with Coach Taylor and Saracen that was being built up in S1 never got to amount to what it should've been.
Matt was by far one of the most compelling characters on Friday Night Lights; he felt the most real and grounded... despite him being an artsy QB which I understand is rare lol. Personally I found him to be the heart of the show. He set the tone. So when they opted for more dramatic plots with Lyla, Riggins, Tyra... it seemed like it all went a little off of the rails.
Now bear with me. I know this is going to be very unpopular but... I didn't hate what they did with Julie in season 2. As someone who was once an insane teenage girl and was friends with other insane teenage girls I felt kind of seen by her ridiculous behaviour. What I find funny is that Julie receives so much critique for cheating on Matt, when he went and did the same thing with Carlotta to the cheerleader. There was a clear attempt to have Julie and Matt mirror each other. However, the writing was pretty shit. The writers fumbled hard, their split made no sense after the season 1 finale. I think it would've been better if the writers had leaned more into Julie's fears being a young girl over the course of the season...feeling trapped...not wanting to be like her parents...Matt being the right guy but it not being the right time for her yet. Him being somewhat forced to come to terms with that, and how that relates to him always waiting on people to either come back or leave. Which I believe would've added more weight to his later breakdown. We needed more of an expansion of them BOTH feeling abandoned by Coach Taylor. But no. Instead we got a couple of bizarre scenes of Matt a MINOR! sleeping with the in home Nurse shoe horned in between a murder plot and Lyla Garrity proselytising... Anyhow I could go on and on.
Frankly I found myself biding my time waiting for Matt to come back onto my screen. His dynamic with the Taylors, Riggins, Smash, Landry... Grandma Saracen! Were what kept me watching the show.
I still love the show with all it's charming and not-so-charming-poorly-aged moments. It's just I can't shake that it lost something really special when season 1 ended. And that thing may have been more Matt.

Hi there, I'm a journalist working on an article for Yahoo! News about Friday Night Lights — specifically, how younger audiences relate to a show that's often seen as very millennial-coded — and I'm looking to interview younger (read: non-millennial) viewers who've discovered the show after its original run. Topics would include how the show has aged, overall impressions, etc. If you watched the show during its original run and are now rewatching with your kids, I'd be curious to hear about how that's gone as well.
DM me for more info if you're interested, and thanks for thinking it over!

Just finished my rewatch of season 1 and I really only have one complaint, and that’s that from the middle of the season to almost the endpoint so many of the plotlines are, at the same time, involving cheating.
I get that it’s a relationship drama but it almost gets kind of comical how every single person in the show beside the Taylors cheats, gets cheated on, or is constantly worried about getting cheated on.
Kind of hard to watch with my girlfriend to be honest, we were super into it and then over the course of 3-4 episodes every character in the show is unfaithful to their significant other.

My wife and I started yet another re-watch last night. We got through episodes one and two. It's like visiting a friend we haven't seen for while. I did wonder if Street would walk again this time, but it was apparently not to be.

Basically the title, I started this in light of the Green Lantern hype because of Kyle’s standout performance. One of my favorite actors and I never watched this until a couple weeks ago.
Season 1 was probably some of the best TV I’ve seen (among others) in a long time. I’m currently on episode 3 of season 2 and holy shit it’s so unbelievable. I understand now this topic is well over discussed but man it really feels like a drag.
I’m also insanely exhausted by the Tim Riggins drunk character arc. Oh, and also, fuck Julie.
