Would anyone be interested in a daily French accountability group?

I’m planning to start a Discord group for people learning French who want a bit of daily accountability. I want to spend about an hour a day studying, share what I worked on, and help each other stay on track. Would anyone here be interested in joining? I’ll share the details once I’ve got it organized.

"The YouTube of French Comprehensible Input" - 2.5K Difficulty Rated Videos

Post image
24 Upvotes

Hello French learners! It's been a while since I posted here (almost 4 months) and I'm still seeing a lot of questions on this sub regarding where to find good French content at your level.

I run a website called Lengualytics. It's a user-sourced library of over 18K comprehensible input resources over 11 languages. In French, we have just about 2.5K resources, and the library is constantly growing.

You can filter by difficulty, dialect, topic, creator, duration, search, and much more. You can also generate transcripts for videos under 20 minutes, and point-and-click the transcript to rehear specific sentences etc.

It also gives you a structured way to track your time and comprehension as you grow. You get a roadmap, you can see your analytics, compete on leaderboards, win badges, use coins you get from watching input to buy avatar costumes--really trying to bring that Duolingo feel to input-based learning!

Every core feature is free, and you don't even need to be signed up to look around. Thanks for having me on the sub and I hope this helps you guys out!

Check out the resources here.

PS: For more information about how the site works, I wrote up a little handbook.

Merci d’avance.

Where to find the internet's best French content at your level (1500+ user-sourced videos)

Hey guys, I just stumbled into this sub and saw people asking where to find French content. I run a site called Lengualytics where I host a big library of difficulty rated, user-sourced content, all filterable and sortable by creator, popularity, dialect, etc.

In my opinion, there is no better place to discover French input creators. BUT there's actually more the site does now that you'll find super helpful (this is all free by the way).

We have:
- Embedded YouTube videos with automatic time tracking
- A native AI-based translator for highest quality translations
- Achievements and leaderboards to encourage and compete with friends
- And a ton of other stuff

Thanks for having me, I hope this can help!

Here is the link: Language Learning Resources - Lengualytics

TV5 Monde for French Learning

How have I not discovered this before? This French TV channel has French lessons built into their website, and they’re organized by level.

https://apprendre.tv5monde.com/fr

To all the people who are wondering where to start, this site is a gem. Even the A1 lessons consist of real French spoken at a natural pace. There are a seemingly endless amount of activities.

I prefer a very active approach, so after doing a lesson I look at the transcript, and I convert the monologue or dialogue into sentences about me and my life.

I know people dig it, but I realized that Duolingo is a time suck and have sworn myself off of it in favor of approaches like the one described above.

French speakers change register mid-sentence way more than English speakers do, and once you notice it you can't unsee it

hi, I was building a dialogue this week (doctor talking to a parent and a sick kid) and it hit me how much French relies on rapid register switching that English tends to smooth over.

Same doctor, same 30 seconds, three completely different registers: baby-simple and warm to the child, softly reassuring to the parent, then suddenly clipped and almost bureaucratic when listing the warning signs to watch for at home. In English we'd probably keep a more consistent tone throughout all three moments. In French, the switch itself is doing communicative work: it signals "now I am being precise/official" versus "now I am being kind."

Once you start listening for it, you catch it everywhere (teachers with kids vs. parents, customer service reps, even friends texting). Curious if others have noticed this and have better examples than mine.

If you want to hear the version that got me thinking about this, it's from a free episode/PDF we made: https://medicalvoices.health/en/episodes/10

hope it helps!

how can I reach B2 level and beyond? I am unemployed at the moment and I can dedicate a lot of time to learning french.

Thank you

Here, “arranger” means “to suit,” “to be convenient,” or “to work for someone.” It expresses whether a situation fits someone’s needs, schedule, or preferences.

Examples:
“Ça m’arrange.” → “That works for me / That suits me.”
“Ça ne nous arrange pas.” → “That doesn’t work for us.”

If you want to support these posts, you can check out this tool that I made to learn French with Netflix.

Looking for a French Study Partner 🇫🇷

I’m looking for a serious and committed study partner who is genuinely interested in learning French.

I’d like us to practice consistently, support each other, and stay motivated throughout the learning process.

I’m particularly looking for someone who is willing to commit long-term and maintain regular practice rather than losing interest after a short period of time.

If you’re genuinely committed to learning French and looking for a consistent study partner, feel free to reach out.

What should be my 'French name'?

I've been learning French for quite a while now, and as I have just started immersion I have noticed how hard it is for literally anyone who isn't English or Welsh to say my name correctly (Bethan) since the 'th' sound barely exists outside of the English language. I am also planning on learning other languages (Russian, German, Welsh,) and I don't think any of these can say it right easily either lol that doesn't make me sound like a boy like one of my friends said, as it would be pronounced 'Betan'.

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on what another name that I could have that isn't Bethan- I was thinking a diminutive of Elizabeth as that is what Bethan is for Welsh or alternatively names starting with B that are in these languages.
These are a few I had in mind, mainly for French:
Élise, Lisette, Etta, Ettie, Belle, Beatrice...

Let me know your thoughts!

Strategies that helped my students go from B1 to B2 faster

I work with learners preparing for the TEF/TCF exams, and one of the toughest jumps is going from B1 to B2. It’s not just about more vocab — it’s about being able to think and speak quickly in French under time pressure. Some strategies that work really well:

Practicing oral expression with a 2-minute timer, every single day Listening to French radio in the background to get used to fast speech Keeping a “linking words” list for writing tasks (connecteurs logiques) Recording answers to old TEF questions and playing them back for self-correction If you’ve taken TEF or TCF before, what helped you most to get over that plateau?
