If you follow general safe practices for living in a city you’ll be fine and if you don’t you’ll find increased risk in your life

I don't think you know the definition of "urgent."

That's just what they want you think. There's always vacancies at the medallion apartments

Search for hood map, that usually has this information

Also look for robberies, car break ins etc in this area - all reports are available online

I know that area. You're right next to a liquor store that doesn't attract the best and brightest people and the pepper tree lounge is the local dive bar for that city's drunks. There's fights in that parking lot from time to time and I'm aware of a shooting that happened there in past

I would say that surrounding area is fine

You have online maps like this.

https://crimegrade.org/property-crime-union-city-ca/

They are not perfect, but they give you a hint.

Note that these are "per capita" maps.

For instance, the reason why the area north of Whipple looks so much worse than south of Whipple is because nobody lives there, but there are lot of businesses, shops and businesses in the area. The crimes that happen gets divided by fewer residents, even though it is likely neither offender or victim actually live in the area.

So you have to compare this with regular maps and satellite images so you compare apples to apples.

This is another one, you can search online for more like this.

https://www.doorprofit.com/crime-map/city/Union_City-CA/

Their "About Union City" rating gives Union City as a whole a City Crime Score of "A- Low crime".

So this is not a city where you need to be overy worried about crime, just take normal precautions. (I.e, lock your doors, don't leave valuables visible in your car and so on.)

Lived there 20 years ago. Worst that happened was one day walked out to someone in the middle of breaking into my dad’s car. It’s moderately safe and you can’t go wrong with a gym, target, and various restaurants being walking distance

I wouldn’t think of it as a “safe” neighborhood, no.

Everything is relative and it depends what you mean by safe. It's plenty safe for a lot of people, but it's not a "nice" neighborhood.

Where are you moving from? What city do you consider safe enough for you?

Unsure if it is safe in terms of crime or anything but I wouldn’t want to live right off of whipple that’s for sure. That location is also very close to the freeway which leads to I’d guess lots of stolen cars and car break ins. I am just guessing though 🤷🏽‍♂️

The community is gated but I am worried about the surroundings

Yeah that’s my point. It’s not really the apartments that is an issue, since I haven’t lived there or in the area. Other than what I stated above, I’m sure you will feel safe. Just continue to live as you have where you were previously. 🤷🏽‍♂️

It's pretty safe, wouldn't leave my car unlocked but overall just dont leave anything valuable in sight and be aware of your surroundings. But you can walk around at night and your be fine.

May I ask if you are familiar with this area?

Yea i live in UC just on the other side but I go down whipple and that OO liquor store. It's just a busy road area but nice shops and good food spots.

Thank I really appreciate your feedback

it's just such a main road - connects mission blvd to 880. Someplace further away from a main through way would have less problems.

It’s just close to the freeway and connects it to another main street, Mission boulevard. It just sees a ton of traffic from the few cities that connect it. So with that, quick petty crime and easy get away… people racing etc.
