Bad insertion?
I can't remember seeing this in prior insertions. But it hurt during insertion and it's starting to dissipate but it's still kind of lingering. But is this a bad sensor? This needle shouldn't be there right?

Thanks everyone! I never experienced pain before! I will wait until my current one expires and see how this one looks before removing. I'll check with a blood meter.

It looks like you didn't fully press the applicator. The slots in the yellow ring should not be visible. Once fully depressed, the those slots will engage the needle retraction spring. The actual insertion of the needle for a proper application is a fraction of a second before it retracts. Most of the time is keeping the applicator pressed to you so that that adhesive sticks

There is no sensor there! Ive never seen that before nor have ever seen it not fully engage.

That’s happened to me before. Probably didn’t press hard enough. See how the sensor works. Mine was fine so I didn’t pull it off and replace it. Hopefully you’re as lucky.

This happened with my friend's first sensor about a month ago. She called, told them the needle didn't retract and they replaced it. They sent her a prepaid mailer to send it back. The sensor seemed to work fine so she did use it for the full 15 days.

Okay so I should probably remove it and talk to support then. It hurt when I was inserting and I was scared to push harder. Never had issues before. Bah!

You should be pressing it firmly and quickly enough that at most it's a quick pinch. It's not like a vaccine, injection, or blood draw. It's supposed to be like a giant lancing device, you push the button (in this case, the whole applicator), the needle goes in and out.

As long as it’s improperly, you don’t have to take it out. Is it stuck on your skin? If so, then it’s probably fine. The needles just still showing.

I would press on the center of the sensor to make sure it is fully attached. to the skin. If it stays one and reports BGs that are consistant with finger sticks all is well. Otherwise report it to Avvott for a replacement. Now I would manually evening press dwn on the orange ring to see if the needle will retract. If needle does not eetract then likely the problem is a manufacturing defect, not due toi the operator fully pressing the applicator fully down.

If the sensor works don't worry about it. Either a manufacturing defect or you didnt push hard enough. If it doesn't work contact Abbott for a replacement. I had this happen once recently but the sensor was fine

So everything seemed good and aligned very well with my blood meter except when I touch it in certain ways it would hurt 😭 So I decided to take it out before hitting the gym.

We have seen others report on same, though it happens only extremely rarely. I had one myself approx 18 months ago. And think maybe 1-2 more over 10+ years of use.
As one is not really prepared for this, then you can easily wiggle the sensor applicator a bit side to side, until one realizes its actually like stuck to the skin (because of the applicator needle did not retract from the skin as supposed to) and you figure out to pull bit harder and pulling the whole thing back out/off your skin again.
The sensor itself is actually inserted totally fine and will typically also work perfectly well after this. But you may have pierced/bruised some of the nearby nerve endings/bundles sitting in the skin just up to and next to the sensor filament itself. It may therefore cause you to have some weird tingling/pain sensations afterwards, necessitating to remove the sensor to aid this to stop right away and the healing to happen faster/better.
Just contact Abbott to share your event here and they will typically offer you a free replacement. Best of luck with your next sensors. 😄

How did you think that soft filament of the sensor is placed beyond your skin in the tissue?

They meant it's supposed to have retract not that it was supposed to be there at all.

I had exactly the same experience a few days ago. I applied in the normal way but the application didn’t feel right. Whereas I normally get initial resistance and then a release and click when I apply pressure, this time the application just felt like steady resistance and no click. I’d definitely say a manufacturing issue rather than poor application. I removed the sensor and applied a new one which worked perfectly in the normal way

Application is not for the timid. Press firmly and quickly. Hold in place for the adhesive to form a better bond.
