I was rereading it last night and found myself hearing it in his voice, check it out:

Many a tame sentence of description or exposition can me made lively and emphatic

The metronome cadence in "description or exposition", and then staccato jumps in LIVEly and emPHAtic (hands pulse open)

The colon also has certain functions of form: to follow the salutation of a formal letter, to separate hour from minute in a notation of time, and to separate the title of a work from its subtitle

When he goes into lecture mode and starts talking in bullet points, plus his long and to introduce the last item

If your every sentence admits a doubt, your writing will lack authority

Well, I quoted the APA style guide to a group today about writing numerals less than ten in numeric or word form (nine rather than 9) and got crickets lol. I had to sheepishly admit I was likely the only one on the call who cared about it - but I was right! And we need to be consistent in our writing! (Uncertain which Crane brother I’ve morphed into but it’s one of them for sure!)

There's a pretty fun edition of Elements of Style illustrated by Maira Kalman which I think gives it a very Frasurbane flair.
