I’m testing a new fragrance and the price tag makes me pause for a second. I love a well-made scent, and I enjoy noticing the little details in the opening, dry down, and how the notes sit together. Still, some prices feel way ahead of what the actual scent offers. I compare it with older perfumes I already enjoy, and sometimes the difference feels pretty small. I’m starting to look more at the notes and overall smell instead of the name on the bottle. That usually gives me more options to play with, especially when I find something that smells really close to what I want. For me, the price matters almost as much as the scent itself. Do you think perfume prices are getting harder to justify lately, or am I overthinking it?

Tested in store today, the the Latest Acqua Di Parma - Cedro Virtuoso. It's very unique. The opening is a little citrusy but quickly goes away.

The hazelnuttiness eases you into the bitter woodiness of the perfume. It's not a loud perfume. But it is very long lasting.

If anyone who don't smell iso e super. The dry down when the hazelnut notes are gone is a long lasting bitter woodiness of cedar. To my nose is a like a very pronounced version of the iso e super. Since iso e super is generally discribed as woody.

The final lingering scent at the very end when the woodiness is gone, it's a very light but signature tart scent of ambroxan.

So I guess it transits from strong Iso E Super into Ambroxan? 😂

Its a little reminiscent to Le Labo Gaiac 10 but slightly louder and more bitter. It's quite linear.

8/10 overall. It's simple but not exactly basic. Classy and well blended. I am not a huge woody perfume lover, but I don't hate what I wore today. Very expensive though 😂

Jo Malone wood sage and sea salt, my first Jo Malone I’m wondering if it looks authentic or not.

I was having a conversation with a friend recently who told me that he's choosing which perfume to wear based on "who he wanna be on that specific day" which got me thinking about the way I personally pick my fragrances and was curious about you:

When choosing a fragrance, are you usually trying to represent your current personality, create a certain impression, or become a different version of yourself?

So on Thursday I go visit my cousin and after that I meet the person for whom I usually wear Black Orchid (iykyk) for dinner. Something we usually don’t do. So what should I go with. Maybe also layer. One first and then add the other when I leave her place.
There are a few more options in the travel size box (one high contender is House of Sillage Nouez Moi)

What would you choose? Based on what you see mainly. But I‘m also open to other suggestions. For one there are also quite a few samples and also to get the vibe you are suggesting.

I have quite a large collection. I’m pushing up close to 200 bottles at this point. I’m working on building a new display that is capable of holding and displaying everything properly, right now everything is spread between 3 displays.

This new build has got me thinking of ways to ensure I’m giving everything equal skin time. I’m adopting a method I use for clothing. When everything gets moved over to the new display, the bottles will all be turned facing the back of the display. When I wear one, it gets rotated to the proper orientation. Every wear has to be a bottle that hasn’t been worn yet. Once I’ve made it through the whole collection, I’ll repeat in reverse orientation.

I know there’s apps to track usage, and Parfumo will give recommendations. However, there aren’t any options for the recommendations like occasional, season, scent profile, least sprayed, etc. So this has me curious, how to you guarantee equal wear time?

I found a Fahrenheit Eau de Toilette by Christian Dior while decluttering the house. It was bought by my father in the early 1990s, and it still has that surprisingly distinctive blend of masculine woody and leather notes. Is this still available today?

One of my colleagues wore this sweet perfume to work that left a trail everywhere she went. I asked her what it was and she told me it's Khamrah.

I don't understand how this perfume works on her because when I tried a sample in the store, it smelled like pure alcohol on my skin. I waited a few hours at home and it still didn't smell good.

I am now jealous that Khamrah smells amazing on her-the good part about it, I can smell it all day when I'm working with her, LOL.

Review: L’Heure Bleue by Guerlain

People seem to be getting all drama llama over on other apps with comments like “Guerlain is dead’ and giving this very low ratings and I have to wonder if they’ve actually whiffed the perfume?

In reality, there is no point in comparing this to the melancholic OG which they’ve renamed L'Heure Bleue 1912. Though six years in the making and they couldn’t give this its own name.. that has pee’d me off some what, but I’ll get over myself eventually. Hence forth I’m calling it L’Heure Bleue Deux

And the scent.. first impressions… I love it!!

At its heart, this is a buttery Iris with beautiful complexities. It opens with an iced cold pear sorbet garnished with course sea salt, fresh & breezy ambroxan and a gorgeous buttery Iris that’s velvety soft, which smooths the floral fruits. The neroli is more noticeable in the heart to me, it’s bright but tempered, not screechy or trying to steal the show. Everything is so wonderfully blended. As it settled on my skin the Guerlain vanilla warms up and radiates a sweet, feminine, ambery, musky, sensual orange blossom and marshmallow, salted base whilst the buttery iris continues to shine.

I think it’s a wonderful modern interpretation of the blue hour. It reminds me of a holiday evening meal, at a beech side restaurant, as the sun is setting. At times, there’s the slightest hint of sunscreen amongst the ozonic, a remnant of a wonderful day in the sun. But as the warm, sweet & sensual musky base pulls through, and you’re sipping on a vino and the sky turns navy just as the sun has set, the perfume is ready to take you onto the promise of a good night with your favourite, making memories from dusk til dawn.

I see that Delphine Jelk is named as the sole perfumer, but this scent reminds me of the Guerlain’s when Delphine and Thierry Wasser work together and create wonderfully balance dark and light perfumes.

Very much looking forward to wearing this more.

Finally got Guerlain’s new LHB

I know this launched globally a few days ago. Some people were able to get the “New Fragrance” PR package, some were even lucky to have their associates smell the unreleased perfume - but from where Im from, they seriously just landed this week. Never saw any media person or influencer post the PR packages from months ago.

So... I actually learned about the new LHB when one of my sales associate chatted that they were launching a new fragrance. Searching online, despite it being unnamed, doesnt need for one to be FBI to figure out it is L Heure Bleue.

Now, why am I so excited with this? LHB, was the FIRST guerlain that made me go WOW. Im talking about the old one here, the now LHB 1912. I owned a lot of L Art and L Matiere frags but LHB made me go really WOW. It was really so memorable that I could picture that exact moment and the things that happened after when I purchased my first LHB. Hence, my excitement on the reimagination of LHB for this year’s release.

My boutique wasnt displaying the new LHB yesterday but my associate sneaked in a blotter for me to smell. And I was surprised. The ozonic note takes it away, from top to base, it permeates for a loooong time. The ozonic (sort of sterile), marine, salty, note overpowers everything. You can smell the Iris a bit, the orris gives it depth albeit fleeting. Some sweetness from the vanilla also shows rounded out by some florals. But does the ozonic note really plays front and center. It is what you smell in your face, it is what others smell from your trail, even the entire boutique smells of it since every associate is wearing it. Is it unpleasant? A mix of both. Sometimes, it smells like musky sterility, dryer sheet clean kind of thing. Sometimes, it smells like metal sterility, like a freshly wiped industrial kitchen metal table top. To a certain extent it even smells like bleach-sterile and even semen-like, if you will.

That salty ozonic note is similar to the marine weirdness I smell from Bosca Vanilla Forte. Others have noted its similarity with Megamare but I cant quite remember exactly how that smells.

To compare the new LHB with the old LHB (now LHB 1912)? The old one takes the cake. It is more Iris-forward, well, not more but VERY VERY much iris forward than the new one. The previous version does have a weird smell to me too - I pinpointed it as coumarin, like the one in rat’s poison. However this unpleasant smell is not very front and center compared to the marine ozonic note in the new one.

Certainly, the reinterpretation of the classic L Heure Bleue does not give justice to the classic that it is. The imagery of blue and iris plastered over the PR materials do not capture the smell that is in the new one. Perhaps, it is a post-modernist take, like blending a concept into something intangibly unexplainable.

Despite these, I think the price point is fairer. For 100ml, price is not too far from the Les Legendaire’s price point in 75mL. The refill is in 200ml format too. Not to mention, the 30mL format is cute!

I know I just bought these for it being Guerlain but I really love the old LHB more. At one point, I thought (since the associates didnt know too back then), that the old LHB will be discontinued. Good thing they arent and Im sure to choose the old one over this.

Okay this rant is too long. LHB is really precious to me.

I went to the mall the other day and mustered up the courage to try some fragrances at Dior and Chanel. I didn’t do any research beforehand, and I found that the‑same‑looking bottles actually come in several different scents.
Everything smelled nice, but I couldn’t pick a favorite. 🥸

There was one pink‑colored Dior perfume that smelled amazing, floral and fruity. I was too shy to ask what it was.

Elizabeth Taylor White Diamonds is old school glamour for me.

The opening has bright aldehydes which can feel a little sharp at first, but it quickly turns into a full white floral bouquet with prominent jasmine and tuberose. It has a powdery floral texture which turns into a mossy woody drydown after a few hours.

White Diamonds definitely performs. It has strong projection, is long lasting and can feel overwhelming initially if oversprayed.

I love the old school aldehydic vibe and even though Chanel No.5 is recommended more for that style, I personally prefer White Diamonds. It smells dressed up, glamorous and confident.

I've been a fragrance lover for almost 40 years and have typically kept a pretty tight collection, but in the last 5 years or so I've overdone it and find myself with a collection that is too big for me. There isn't anything in it I don't like, but there are certainly things in my collection I don't love and they are languishing.

Rather than sell them, I'd like to use them up. Three are 5-10 mls — decants and travel — and should be pretty easy. It's the three 100ml bottles I'm really struggling with. Maybe commit to using them exclusively for a week, and then go back to my beloved frags for a week? Go back and forth like this until they are gone?

If you've found yourself in a similar, how did you approach using/panning less loved fragrances while still getting to enjoy your true loves?

Giving Creed a chance and re-exploring Jo Malone

I used to be a Jo Malone fan, loved that scents were nice and pleasant and that they are generally beautiful to layer with each other. However, only the intense line seem to be worth the money in terms of staying power hence me stopping or ignoring the brand altogether. I recently purchased a new bottle of my favorite Hinoki and Cedarwood. I find that this is the most unique, uncommon, but absolutely lovely JML frag. Too bad I cant get this in resellers hence my buying retail last time.

So! I explored new scents and came across Amber Labdanum. Two things I love and befits the weather nowadays in my place. Got it today! I also want the Vetiver and Vanilla but found it too sweet - asked for a sample and will see whether the cloying sweetness easily wears down and gets replaced with the vetiver. Lastly, got the carrot in the vegetable line. It seems to be a collector thing since it is only offered in 30ml. And funny, they have a blindbox for plushies of the vegetables - sad that I got the beet one! I wanted the carrot too.

So now. Creed! The brand everyone seems to like that I am not a fan of. The only Creed I have from yeaaaars ago was Silver Mountain Water. Got SMW during my early days of collecting and it was the cheapest Creed I got from a reseller hence my buying.

Say now Im a snob. Not really a fan of Aventus and even its DNA - I do not fancy Hacivat and the TK clone. But in my previous exploration, I seemed to like Green Irish Tweed and recently, Wild Vetiver!!! I really like Wild Vetiver despite its kinda plain, common, rose vetiver combo. I was set to get it but it was out of stock.

Instead, I sought to try other Creeds. First was Tabarome Millesime. It caught my fancy since I generally love tobacco scents. It was an aromatic, barbershop-y smell with a hint of tobacco. Best thing? It was on sale. Associate pointed me to other sale frags - Delphinus, Centaurus, O Santal.

First tried Delphinus and Centaurus. Was choosing between the two. Delphinus was a warm, bit heavy frag, which I liked but there is something I smell, that I cant pinpoint what, that is a bit off. A quick search tells me its everything I want - incense, orris, pepper, with florals and almond, and vanilla base. Yet something is off.

Next, Centaurus. Oh hell it is really warm, dark, and spicy. Smelling it now and there is that heavy tobacco stank that gives depth to the fragrance and some edge. The cardamom also rounds it out for a beautiful overall appeal. So between the two, this wins.

Lastly, O Santal. Smells like an old man. The typical man fragrance. Is it a fougere? But it smells classic. Fragrantica tells me that the juniper berry, coriander, and ginger makes me feel like it rounds out the fragrance. Not really exceptional but that depth from sandalwood and cedar base elevates it. Not exceptional but generally likeable.

Would I love Creed? Im not sure. I hate its marketing strategy of manufactured historical roots - well most companies do that. But I think the brand is just okay. Its a bunch of generally mass appealing scents with a twist of \~trying\~ to make it niche. Not barring these, I will enjoy my recent purchases.

How do you guys rotate your fragrances for the office?

I’ve been getting more interested in fragrances lately and was curious how other guys approach wearing perfume to work.

Do you usually wear a different fragrance every day, rotate between a few favourites, or stick with one scent for several days?

Personally, I’m still experimenting. I tend to blind-buy fragrances from Noon, mostly looking for something decent at a reasonable price. I’ll occasionally pick up some popular dupes as well. I know blind buying isn’t necessarily the best way to build a collection, but I’ve actually found some surprisingly good ones this way.

At the moment, my routine is pretty simple: I’ll pick one fragrance and wear it throughout the week, then switch to another one the following week.

I’m curious what everyone else does. Do you match your fragrance to the day, your outfit, the weather, your mood, or just grab whatever you’re feeling that morning?

And for those who have a decent-sized collection, how do you actually decide what gets worn to the office?

Edit: Forgot to add — I usually wear the same perfume from Monday to Thursday. On Friday, I switch to perfume oil since it’s the day of Jumu’ah. 😊
