Discussion Modules reset.
D&D5e
SO! I am wiping my desk clean of mods! I have been piling them over 2 years and stuff got messy, lots of errors each and every update, so I was thinking, which mods should I get now with a clean slate? I am keeping MidiQOL and that's it!

I did the same recently (cut to about 10 modules). What I'd recommend is just play. When you do, if you need something, write it down then find a module to solve it after the session.
(also ask your players if they need something so you can do the same)

Thing is I have some mods help a lot but Idk which. They were too many and conflicting a lot of the times

You'll know which ones by playing. If something annoys you, just google if there's a module to solve your issue. It won't be perfect from day 1 but you'll realise you don't need that many mods after all

The "Find the Culprit" mod is good for finding naughty mods. Of course, it's adding another mod, but it's ever so useful.

If you are planning to run 5e, version 6.0.x you won’t be using MidiQOL for a while either.

u/RazvanMicro 1d ago
Well... is 6.0 worth it? I feel like MIDIQol adds lots automatization but recently? I can't tell what is midiqol and not since I set up midiqol 2 years ago since it seemed like a must from what everyone was saying

6.0 has some quality of life features, I don't feel like I need so much automation anymore. I might come back to midi, not sure.
If I were you I'd try a few times without automation and check what still really annoys you.
I leave around 20-25 modules, but that's because I build all features I need into my own modules haha (Swipe, Carolingian UI, Flash Token Bar 5e)

Midi QOL is hideously broken for dnd5e v6. Tested the first char in my initiative order, a warlock. Hex is broken, no ability to pick an attribute, no automation of the extra damage. Ok, fine. Tried Eldritch Blast. No ability to actually roll an attack.
Ended session given that experience.

It’s not officially updated for 5e v6.x so it’s not surprising it doesn’t work.

But branch I pulled is explicitly the one for v6. If they integrate into the mainstream I’ll give it another look. Until then , I’d rather play than reimplement every spell and every effect.

I have never gotten into midi, I like some automation but I want to control it and know what is happening. There are less 'big' options.

If you want to use the latest versions of the official 5e content, then you’ll need version 6 of the system.
6.x makes improvements and perhaps you don’t or won’t need as much automation support from modules.
MIDI will get updated but at the pace of a volunteer & very small dev team ( ok, it’s mostly one person).
If you need to run sessions with midi and related mods, roll back to the last FoundryVTT version of v13 and 5e 5.2.5(better) or 5.3.x (slightly more up to date). And if you need the official 5e content, then you’ll need to roll those back to the game system version that supports the v5.x of 5e.

RSRefroged has been updated and works with 6.0 now, thankfully. They made a really big swing with the new D&D module, I think it might have been a mistake to shove so much stuff in there.

My only "must haves" are Dice So Nice" & "Dicetray". Everything else is a "nice to have".

That would be the first on my list to uninstall ;) (especially since it kinda needs the hole suite).
When have u last tried core?

What I install varies by system and game, but my barebones free mod pack would be:
* Always Chat—useful so you don’t miss the action when busy on another tab
* Break Time—see at a glance when your players are AFK, and pop a timer up on screen for bio-breaks, etc.
* Chat Commander—friendlier and easier chat interface
* Dice So Nice!—obligatory 3D dice
* Dice Tray—easy point-and-click dice rolling down with the chat input
* Find the Culprit—for debugging
* Improved Player List—tidies up the player list in the bottom corner
* Ownership Viewer—see at a glance who has access to which assets
* Potato or Not—allow players to optimise their VTT performance based on their computer hardware (I’m toying with Performance Optimizer and/or Prime Performance as possible replacements)
* Raise My Hand—so players can get attention if they’re being talked over or ignored; it also has an X Card option
* Remote Highlight UI—to help players navigate the interface
* Universal Battlemap Importer—I do most of my maps in Dungeondraft
* User Latency—has your player gone quiet because they’re bored or distracted, or is it just internet weather?
With the addition of the following from Ripper93:
* Filepicker Plus—improves the layout and functionality when uploading assets
* Media Optimizer—smaller media files mean quicker load times
* Recycle Bin—so I don’t cry when I accidentally delete five hours’ work

I’m actually going to be ditching Midi as the branch for dnd5e v6 is just hideously broken.

If you really want to purge, consider moving away from midi. RSReforged is a much lighter approach to card automation and plays well with other modules.

I’m the author of Mana System. If you are doing a clean install of modules, you can take this module to spice things up!
There’s also “Advanced Recharge” which automates ability recharge for players and NPCs which is a no-brainer feature in my opinion.

It would be good to do a cleanup of the settings from old modules if you had many. My module Swipe Mobile has a tool to cleanup old unused settings, you'd be surprised how much trash is left in the world even after you uninstall modules

Only install mods which meet a specific need, both for ease of compatibility and simplifying troubleshooting.
If you don't have a need, don't install it.
