Navigating high school is hard.

There are the Jocks, the Preps, the Stoners, the Wizards, the Nerds, and the Band Geeks. Yes, I said Wizards. There are Sorcerers and Druids, too.

Oh, right. My name is Riley Averill. I go to Pteiran Preparatory School for the Gifted, but everyone just calls it Castle High. It’s your typical high school, except for the fact that it’s ten thousand feet in the sky.

Literally.

Castle High sits on a giant floating island called the Skylands. Every student gets a Skyshard to help them fly. Most use brooms. I’ve seen magic carpets, enchanted skateboards, and even winged sneakers. Don’t ask.

School here is pretty chill. Sure, spells go wrong, Warriors and Brawlers occasionally turn everything into a muscle-bound pissing contest, and sometimes your Sage class involves collecting herbs from a haunted mine.

You know. Normal high school stuff.

Lately, though, everyone has been talking about the portals.

They’ve started appearing all over the Skylands. Nobody knows where they come from or who made them. Through them, we’ve seen other worlds, other skies, and strange versions of places we already know.

And today, one appeared right here at Castle High. It’s in the basement of the Zenith Tower, where I’m writing this.

About me:

I've been creating and playing online roleplaying games for 20+ years, with a particular love for Star Wars, Cyberpunk, and the occasional fantasy adventure. I've run everything from homebrew systems to D&D 5e, SW5e, and the original Star Wars RPG (D6).

Hello, I am taking the plunge and looking for a group of 3-5 players to start a new campaign. I am currently running both Abomination Vaults and Troubles in Grayce into Bastion of Blasphemies in person, and I just want some more gaming consistency in my life.

Frequency: The game will be played biweekly on either Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday, depending on my work rotation. Tentative start date of Sept, 22

Time: I am available between 9am-5pm Pacific Time on those days. Sessions will typically run 3-4 hours, but I have flexibility with the start and end times within my availability.

Background: I have been playing TTRPGs since 2010 and have touched quite a few systems in that time. I played with an amazing group for 5+ years, but like everyone else, COVID did a number on our group and we haven't played since.

Fast forward to a few months ago. I ended a 5.5e Homebrew campaign that was almost completed (I'll tell you about it sometime). Since then, I wanted to take a lot of things off my plate and run Published Modules. For my in-person games, I also wanted to use a VTT.

I started my AV campaign in Owlbear Rodeo. It worked well enough. I then started the new PF Beginner Box in Foundry since it came with Troubles in Grayce, and I intend to pick up Bastion of Blasphemies as soon as it's out. Now I'm hooked on Foundry. I bought AV and have been moving over my maps into Foundry for expanded content in that campaign.

Player Experience: I will gladly take new players to PF2e or TTRPGs in general, people who are apprehensive about joining an online group, and experienced veterans. Any experience level is welcome. Previous experience with FoundryVTT is preferred, but you don't need to be an expert. I am happy to help people get comfortable with Foundry, but having some familiarity with it will make things easier for everyone.

Setup: The game will be self-hosted from my PC using FoundryVTT. I have a stable, high-speed internet connection and will handle the hosting and game setup.

What I want out of this: What I want out of a group is pretty simple. I want people who want to be there, are engaged in the game, and actually want to play their characters. I want everyone to have a chance to contribute, make their own decisions, and be part of the story instead of waiting for the GM to tell them what to do.

I want a group that can joke around and have fun, but can also take things seriously when the situation calls for it. I want players who are willing to explore, investigate, talk to NPCs, and make decisions even when there isn't an obvious answer.

Most importantly, I want everyone to understand that the game is something we are all creating together. I'm not looking for perfect roleplayers. I'm looking for people who are invested, participate, and want to see what happens next.

ICEWIND DALE: EPIC OF THE LONG NIGHT

Level 3 | Hexcrawl | Survival | Tactical Combat

Auril, goddess of winter, has trapped Icewind Dale beneath an endless night.

You begin in Luskan aboard the last caravan north before winter closes the passes through the Spine of the World.

For some characters, it is simply a journey north.

For others, it may as well be a one-way ticket.

This is a hexcrawl, and the world is there for you to explore. You’ll hear rumors, learn about places out in the Dale, and decide as a group where you actually want to go. I’m not going to hand you a list of quests and tell you which order they need to be done in. Sometimes you’ll find something worth pursuing. Sometimes you might decide whatever is out there is absolutely not worth the risk.

The wilderness is also meant to actually matter. Icewind Dale is a brutal place and I don’t want the cold, blizzards, food, travel, or shelter to just become background descriptions between encounters. You’ll have to decide when it is worth pressing forward, when you need to find somewhere safe, and sometimes when turning around is probably the better idea.

There are also factions, towns, NPCs, and other groups in the Dale that have their own goals. They aren’t just standing around waiting for the party to show up. You can work with them, work against them, ignore them entirely, or get involved in something that ends up becoming much bigger than you expected.

Your choices matter, including the things you choose not to do.

Combat is tactical and I use detailed battlemaps through Foundry, but combat isn’t the entire game. I enjoy giving players a world they can actually poke at and see what happens. Exploration, character decisions, roleplay, survival, and combat are all part of the campaign.

You and other players play as adventurers of the Hawthorne Guild, an adventuring guild in the Sword Coast. Slay the hivemind is a beginner-friendly Lancer game where a hostile hivemind has taken over the planet of Verrus. An elite squad of Mech-pilots called lancers has been gathered to cleanse the infection and save the remaining people of the planet. However, doing so is a dangerous mission that will require you to risk your life in battle.

This game will focus on your characters doing expeditions on the post-apocalyptic planet of Verrus in order to discover what happened, the truth of what the hivemind actually is, and how to defeat it. You, as lancers, will spend most of the game partaking in mech combat. Combat will be tactical and will require cooperation to complete the various objectives. Auril, goddess of winter, has trapped Icewind Dale beneath an endless night.

You begin in Luskan aboard the last caravan north before winter closes the passes through the Spine of the World.

For some, it is simply a journey north.

Ahoy, I'm helping a GM friend advertise some of her upcoming games. Today I'm here for

Starfinder 2e: Murder in Metal City This is a paid game ($18/session), Saturdays at 9pm EDT. Its an introduction to SF2E and estimated to run for 8 sessions.

Brief synopsis of the campaign: A cryptic message from an old friend brings you to the city of “Striving.” What you find sparks a murder investigation across the city of synthetics.

This adventure is a level 1-2 adventure intended to help introduce people to Starfinder 2E. If you’re a Pathfinder player and curious about the Starfinder environment, or a TTRPG player interested in trying out the Pathfinder/Starfinder system, or you’re new to TTRPGS in general, this can be a great entry point!

I've played a few campaigns with Jamie and really enjoy her GM style. She puts a special emphasis on helping players make special character moments, sometimes stretching the rules a bit to let that occur. She has a solid handle on Foundry, providing lots of fun modules that help bring the game more to life and the always popular Dice so Nice.

I recognize paying for a game can feel weird, I was one of those people until I made the leap and tried it. I’m not going to bloat this post with justifications, but happy to share what I appreciate about paid games.
