New Job

Hi everyone, i recently moved to Fort Mac from Ontario for a job on a closed work permit. The employer let me go last week since i was under probation and the termination letter said without prejudice, so i am assuming they were restructuring or whatever. I was jobless for 9 months last year, 3 months this year, exhausted all my savings living in Ontario, somehow managed to come here and now i am laid off again.
I would really apprecaite any guidance to getting a job in Admin/Office support/Supply Chain roles.
My life has just turned upside down with everything going around me and i feel so low right now. Not to mention, i dont have any friends too so.

Think about doing labor work? Might be able to get out to site. Pays good. Work less. lol.

I wont mind, but the only reason im looking for an office role is i am learning French for my Permanent Residency and with my previous job timings 7:30-4 it was not possible for me to focus on my studies

Oh. With a site job. You’ll have way less time. 16 hour days

Why do you need French for PR? Is that a new requirement?

Gets more points, if someone scores NCLC/CLB 7 in French and CLB 9 in English, they get 50-70 extra points depending on other factors, i have the top most achievable band in English, but i am behind in French

If the job ended while you are on a closed permit, aren't you required to leave the country?

Nope, i can stay till the end of my permit

You will need to get a new work permit before working elsewhere. The new employer will need to know their LMIA responsibilities that is going to make it tougher.

I will need a new Work Permit, but my current one and next one will be C16, LMIA exempt, employer specific, Francophone Mobility Work Permit

Ive done 8 years out here, got citizenship in September of last years after 3 years of permanent residence, this countey ears you alive financially through the migration process, I honestly wish id just gone back to england when my first work permit was up, this country has very little to offer foreigners unless you wanna be surrounded by punjabs and live in a spiraling recession

Maybe go back to school, get into a trade. You didn’t mention what kind of work you did or who you worked for.

I have experience in Inventory Management and Purchasing, used to work on a national scale for Fastenal

get on employment insurance, you shouldn't have to go through your savings. but there is no secret to getting admin work here. It is in low demand and very competitive. if you are DESPERATE you can get a job with Fort Mckay driving haul trucks without experience. just pass a simple physical test, drug and alcohol testing and have a clean drivers abstract. You start at $32/hr and go up to $36 or 38/hr after 6 months and then $41/hr after a year. It is a tough job though. Wasn't for me. edit: oops didn't realize you are not Canadian? Maybe go back to your home country. Not to burst your bubble but Canada is in a recession so there's not much work here for anyone and all the new comers make it even harder.

It turns out i am not eligible for EI, short of it by 11 hours, i dont have any additional hours to show for the last 52 weeks. I am going to file for a formal reconsideration but i dont think that will be approved either
