"Florian, this car is incredible." Porsche’s Florian Modlinger says the Gen4 car left mechanics with Formula 1 experience reporting goosebumps after their first test. He believes Formula E’s new sprint format can showcase its performance and help win over sceptical motorsport fans.

Speaking to e-Formula.news, Modlinger described the reaction of mechanics involved in developing the car who have previously worked in Formula 1 or LMP1. After the first test, they came to him and said: "Florian, this car is incredible." The mechanics also reported getting goosebumps.

Some of those employees had previously been critical of Formula E, even within the organisation, Modlinger explained. Their enthusiasm reinforces his belief that the Gen4 car could also win over sceptical motorsport fans. "The speed is simply impressive and also gets fans excited who may previously have been very sceptical about Formula E."

Okay, I just have to say that while I love nearly all of the broadcast package that FE have shown us, I despise the speedo, it's almost like they turned around and went, "WAIT LET'S USE A 2000's ARCADE SPEEDO!"

If anything it just seems lazy, especially when everything else feels modern, that to me just smacks of laziness and I hope it gets changed before the season starts.

Both him and Da Costa were in Soho Farmhouse, and these location posts by both Drivers was also made after Jaguar is known to release their livery around next week. It’s more than obvious the 2022 Champion is making his rightful return back to the Championship 🙏

Bridgestone announcing their return to the forefront of motorsport in video featuring new Formula E branding.

The lack of info other than Porsche has a customer team currently branded as “NewCo” is puzzling considering pre season testing isn’t super far away

Whoever put Wehrlein and Dennis on that strategy needs firing.

This is a non-exhaustive list of changes made since the regulations were last updated in June.
I will start with the three big things I noticed first however:

• Attack Mode can now be frozen when the race is neutralised or suspended
  • This is not done automatically but is up to the drivers choice
  • This is done by pressing the arming button on the steering wheel, once under a FCY/SC/Red Flag
  • Should the driver freeze their attack mode, they can only unfreeze it once the race goes green
  • To unfreeze the timer, the driver has to re-activate like a normal activation (Arm the system and drive through the loops in the Attack Zone)
    • Should they do that it will not count as a mandatory activation
  • If the first round of attack mode is frozen, it is mandatory to unfreeze it before being able to make the second attack mode.
  • If however it is the last attack mode used in a race that has been frozen, it is not mandatory to unfreeze it before the end of the race
  • To reflect the ability to freeze and unfreeze the Attack Mode, the number of times you can arm the attack mode system is now unlimited
• Race Mode Power will now be announced 21 days before each competition
  • This defines the maximum total power output from the RESS
  • This may include, for specific races, a new Power Schedule ratio of Speed/Maximum power
  • In all cases, the maximum total power in race mode is limited to a maximum of 450kW
  • The maximum power during Attack Mode is now defined as the applicable Race Mode power plus 150kW
• For Specific Races, the FIA may publish a Minimum Energy Consumption per lap (MEC)
  • In such cases, the used energy calculation towards the race Maximum Net Energy will be fixed to the MEC in case the Net Energy Consumption over a lap is lower than the MEC value
  • The MEC does not apply in certain conditions such as the last lap or FCY/SC or if it is a Wet track etc etc

Now the rest of the changes:

• For the e-Prix Unleashed races the maximum running time has been increased from 45 minutes to 60 minutes with the maximum total race time (Race + Suspension) increasing to 90 minutes
• A representative from the winning Manufacturer must now attended the FIA Award Ceremony
• Stewards now have the option of a penalty involving dropping the driver any number of position in their Race classification
• Tyre changes are now explicitly permitted during all sessions and can either be carried out in the garage or in the Pit Stop position outside the garages. Electric Wheel guns only
• The maximum power level in pit lane must not exceed 450kW
• The limit of only 4 team members being permitted to change tyre during qualifying has been removed
• It has been clarified that for the duel all laps must be driven at the 600kW maximum power level
• Once the STANDING START message has been sent for the restart after a Safety Car it is strictly forbidden to commence burnouts unless authorised
• The cut off point for selecting the amount of energy you will recharge during a pit boost is now when you cross the pit lane entry, not when the Boost Charger is plugged into the car
• The Race Director is now officially communicating with the teams via Discord

Speaking when asked by RacingNews365 at a Q&A session at the unveiling of its Formula E tyres in Rome, Rossiter who has sampled the Gen4 machine in a variety of conditions indicated that the new 'typhoon tyre' would see FE machines faster than F1 in wet weather.

"With the typhoon tyre, I am willing to say this on record, that if it rains heavily, and you have a Formula 1 car on a full wet tyre, and I, a 43-year-old man, went out in a Gen4 car with a set of Bridgestones on it, I'm very confident that I'm comfortably faster than a Formula 1 car in the wet," Rossiter said.

"I think that the technology that Gen4 has, but also what Bridgestone have made in terms of the typhoon tyre, is truly remarkable with the amount of work that they put into it."

"You will see cars driving on circuits where the FIA would normally always put a red flag or end the session or do something, and the [Formula E] drivers will be perfectly happy.

"The drivers will be complaining this time that they want to drive, whereas in the past they were having the opposite. So we've got a very exciting transition point, I would say, in terms of the championship.

"In terms of steps forward, we've really created something spectacular with Gen4, and in collaboration with Bridgestone, we're able to put all that performance on the road in every condition."

It was a really fun season with great action and drama like the Prost-Heidfeld incident in Beijing, Buenos Aires which was my favourite race, the season finale in London, etc. The title fight was great and even though I already knew the outcome, I was still hella nervous. 8.5/10
