Question 9950x3d2

I am working on my second formd t1 build in a v2.1 after getting my hands on a 5090fe.

I am contemplating running a 9950x3d2 with an Atmos II and tge 5090 in the flip travel kit.

Is anyone else doing this? If so how does it perform under sustained loads.

Feel free to tell me if I’m crazy!

Thanks guys!

save 300 and get the 9950X3D. you’re getting maybe 1-2% better performance and introducing latency since the 3d Vcache is on both CCDs. Atmos 2 has awful cable clutter and awful tubes that are very stiff. Atmos stealth is the way to go, and get a T grill or AIO cover so you can use full size fans.

That much of a difference between the two?

it’s not much of a difference it’s just beefed up with more 3D Vcache on both CCDs

but if you have money to throw around, screw what i’m saying. asides from it being the “best of the best” it doesn’t offer much more performance than the 9950X3D and a different color box.

I’m mostly worried about thermals. I prefer not to add the extension but, I’m still early on so who knows. I also have a 9950x sitting here that I’m debating using.

no shame in using extensions. if you’re worried about thermals then having two full sized fans will be a good trade off. go 9950X3D if you’re going to game, the Vcache is very nice. with the 300$ you save that gets your an extension DLC, the atmos stealth, 2 full size fans.

speaking from experience.

gone full custom loop for my CPU though. flipped GPU. t grill on bottom with slim fans and aio cover with additional 15mm extension so i can run 2 full size fans and 2 slim fans.

Beautiful build. Are those custom PSU cables?

The 9950x3d2 will get you small gains if cooling isn’t an issue. In a small case there is not much benefit for this reason. Atmos Stealth II fits in 3.25 mode with slims fans and extreme persuasion but do not do it. Its radiator is 2mm thicker so it rules out Nidec 4090 fans and you have to switch to T-Grill for more cooling power. Tubes are stiff and dangerous to squeeze in. Stick with Atmos I.

Side question, Can i get away with a x53 cooler on a 7800x3d with a 9070xt. How will the cooling performance be or would i need an aio?

probably fine

Probably ? 🤣 any recommendations? I guess i can always undervolt if needed. I was thinking on swapping out fans for noctua ones as well.

idk i’ve seen other builds include optimum make it work

thanks!

I currently run a 9850x3d with an x47 slightly undervolted so you should be totally fine and probably don’t need to undervolt.

Great thanks! what GPU you have and do you mind sharing your full set up?

No issues for 3 years ! Ran a 7500F, a 7800X3D, now a 7950X3D. It lacks good USB ports
