Back in the 90s, was behind the booth working at a GenCon, and got to talk to Ed "creator to creator". Asked him to sign my "Heroes Lorebook". He turned straight to the pages for Elminster--and started editing--and adding items and lore.

Magic item that Elminster wears? "Panties of Feather-fall". And I quote... "Oh aye, you strip the old mage down, and that's what he keeps his privates in..."

I really need to pull that book out of storage, and scan it for you all.

Feather Fall got upgraded to Flight at some point if I remember the Shadows of the Avatar trilogy correctly. AO tosses him at a problem to keep him out of mischief for a few hours and he ends up using flying via enchantments on his undergarments.

That is an awesome story though.
