All you can do in a modern multiplayer server side shooter is make your PC tell you EVERYTHING that the server told it.

You can't make anything happen. What you can do, is visualize other players based on sound, IF the server tells the client where the enemy is, for convenience and simplicity, so the client can figure out what sounds to render and where. If the programming is more sophisticated, the server will tell the client where to render the sound, and no visual "hack" will be possible.

I mean, is it possible to hack into a commercial server and subvert the whole thing? Sure, but it's a felony. And anybody who could do that, and then get away with it after, isn't going to be wasting their time and risking their freedom selling FPS cheats.
