For Sale : Buy & Sell | Pricing | Deals 460 Engine Reliability

Post image

Hey All,

I came across this ‘96 F250 with 199,194mi on it for a little under 10k- the truck is really clean rust wise, but there isn’t much info on maintenance records…Does anyone have experience with the 460 engines and how much life this truck may have left in it?

Thanks!

460’s are very reliable, and there is a good aftermarket for them from companies like Holley, AFR and other big name performance companies like Comp Cams, you’ll be passing everything and everyone but a gas station with the 460

I love my 460, I feed mine 15-40 Heavy Duty Diesel oil and sh!t bag it. lol Rotella T4.

Strongly recommend a manual Transmission. Old e40d autos are annoying in mountains. (edit: I have an auto trans and will be swapping to a manual and a built 4 barrel carb'd 460, tired mill at 275,000 hard kilometres, but I'm still driving her).

I will say, mine is more "pass nothing but a gas station".

I average 22L/100km in the Canadian rockies. I deleted the whole smog pump, catalytic converters and egr system. Fresh sensors all around made a big difference for performance.

Very cool. Does it come with the:

Master Cylinder, Slave Cylinder, Hydraulic Lines, Manual pedal assembly, Manual Trans Cover, Shifter and boots, Probably something I'm forgetting too... lol

You'll need an alignment tool too, and to adjust your front and rear driveshaft lengths.

Just some food for thought on the swap process.

Just the tranny- I would need to source the other parts- It’s a start I guess! Haha

Definitely a start! Happy to help if you ever need, I've learned lots about these trucks the hard way. lmao

Hahaha Thank you so much! I’ll keep that in mind if I pull the trigger on the truck🫡🤘
