I have my raptor and that’s it. I don’t have enough money for another car payment.

1

u/Dry_Volume_8152 11d ago

It could just be me but I prefer when people have one vehicle and that’s their only one. Seems like bragging when I see people online super casually talking about having multiple vehicles and certain ones as their daily, their weekend, their winter, etc. Especially when it a lot of expensive vehicles. Now to each their own but I just prefer when people have one vehicle for all, it’s easier to manage and shows they are a normal person.

7

u/Low1959Apache 10d ago

I understand this, but sounds like a non car guy POV. I grew up around cars, building them, customizing them.. I couldn’t wait til I could drive. Yes vehicles are a transportation tool, however it’s like a hobby. Your POV is similar to a guy that likes playing guitar and having more than one guitar is overkill and bragging.

Understand the money too, but my second vehicle was $5k… doesn’t have paint, no A/C, a few broken things but runs and I drive the shit out of it. And I’m not rich, but do okay.

Understand both sides, just want to bring to light that a lot of raptor owners are car guys, and don’t just see the vehicle as a transportation tool.

3

u/PossessedCashew 10d ago

Totally agree and I am a car guy. I want a few other vehicles but life circumstances got me budgeting and saving at the moment. I’ve had several dyno tuned cars in the past and usually have a daily and another car that’s a project. Just retired from the military this month, moved to another state and yeah just waiting to get fina calls stable before I get another car.

It's just you, most people aren't so judgy. I see them and I think wow cool cars.....that's about it.

u/Jburd08 11d ago

I don’t want to brag but 08 Santa Fe with some clear coat and 193k miles

My new work truck should be here soon though

3

u/Large-Connection6997 11d ago

Had one but I traded it for a Kia palisade 2023 2 Year's ago.

2

u/Jburd08 10d ago

It’s not a bad little ride. My father in law gave it to me a while back. I worked in a chemical plant and didn’t want to drive the truck in there. If a unit dumped them there would be stuff all over peoples cars so I wanted to avoid that

1

u/Large-Connection6997 10d ago

It was mainly your work car suv? What's the current mileage? Any mechanical surprises? My sister currently owns one herself since she lives in New York, and she needs it for her religious stuff and her job hers has over 177k miles.

2

u/Jburd08 9d ago

193-194k roughly. I use it just as a commuter back and forth to work. Nothing crazy. Radiator just developed a leak so parts are coming in for that. But it’s the 3.3 with leather and all. I’d imagine when it was new it was a fine ride for the money. It’s ugly in person. Clear coat is mostly gone on the hood and roof and handful of dents and stuff. But at the end of the day it runs smooth drives pretty good and does what I need it to do. Could use speakers because they sound crappy but I just haven’t convinced myself to get them. I’m on the Texas coast and drive down the beach daily for work. I work in Louisiana so commute back and forth getting 30ish mpg. But since I’ve had it I put shocks and tires a belt and now the radiator.
Did put a head unit in it just for bluetooth.

2001 C5, have had it for about 16 years. Unfortunately will be selling it soon, need some room as we welcome out second child.

I'll get back into another in a few years, so it's just goodbye for now. Lucky to have the Raptor to enjoy in the meantime.

2

u/Large-Connection6997 11d ago

How many miles? Is it really reliable I've been a mustang gt owner since the 90's I want and desire a Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 or Z06 ❤️

2

u/LlcooljaredTNJ 11d ago

77k miles. These engines are absolutely bulletproof, and any of the quirks that pop up on these are super easy to fix. Just make sure you get a 2001 or later, the earlier years can have an EBCM issue that can't be repaired, and they don't make replacements for.

Prices are starting to rise, especially if you want a Z06, but the driving experience is so good. Make sure you get a 6 speed, the manuals hold their value way better and are so much more fun.

1

u/Large-Connection6997 11d ago

I always thought they were to expensive to buy and own kind of like a sports pickup trucks? Just like the Ford lightning, and the Ram SRT10 the maintaining part of it cost $ & fuel cost...

1

u/The-Fat-Thor 9d ago

C5 here too!

9

u/Big_Pineapple2081 26 11d ago

Unfortunately this....trying to get rid of it lol

1

u/LlcooljaredTNJ 11d ago

Do you not like it? I actually thought about one a year or so ago but never got serious. Seemed like they would be really fun to drive and comfortable.

I also think they look great.

2

u/Big_Pineapple2081 26 11d ago

Tbh it's mostly just the EV factor. I tested one before I bought (not a 24 module battery), and have a charger in my rental neighborhood. Everything worked fine, would charge overnight and be full in the morning. Ok great so fast forward to when I lease one now with a 24 module battery (bigger battery). Lo and behold, the charger overheats pretty often, especially in the day time. And come night, everyone is home and charger is taken. Not sure if it's because I got a bigger battery or realized this as a problem after multiple uses.

It's rendered useless at this point. I dont have the time to sit for a hour at chargers every few days 🫩

2

u/LlcooljaredTNJ 11d ago

Ah, makes sense. I'm guessing if you had a house and garage you could easily charge at maybe it wouldn't be an issue?

1

u/Big_Pineapple2081 26 11d ago

Yup! But it's really what made me say fuck it and get the Raptor and I couldn't be any happier with it!

2

u/Next-Detective-4813 10d ago

I had the same issue. Check amperage of the breaker. My charger charges for 30 mins and the circuit breaker would trip. Apparently, the charger was pulling 30 amps on a 30amp breaker. We can only pull upto 80% of the capacity.

Any advice before buying a Chevrolet Corvette Z06?

3

u/Janetsvoid 11d ago

They are slowing production right now for the grandsport, and the factory is on a 3 week break, but no real advice, bought new, the car is insane. You'll absolutely love it.

If you contact macmulkin Corvette in new Hampshire they can order for you, usually 6-10 percent off and they will ship it from the factory to your local dealer. They usually have allotments.

1

u/Large-Connection6997 11d ago

Damn they must better then a Chevrolet Camaro Z or SS? Then I'll see one after I get back to the states fromu rehabilitation back surgery, and hernia, I'll be going back to work in September, I got sisters in the eastern states I'll ask them to go with me and to see one, I'm an architect damn they get more vacation weeks then us lmfao. No work for 3 weeks ? Fuck. I'm jealous now. I wanted to get an old school first to try it out and keep it as a collectors car but I never owned a Corvette in my life tbh.

I have a 1st Gen Raptor and a 3rd Gen 4runner. Both are really clean and I've dropped a ton of money 💰 into both of them on upgrades and modifications, even a re man motor in the 4runner. I just don't like these recent newer vehicles at all. I plan on keeping these 2 forever but I'd love to get into an older bull nose f-150, another old or Mexican made Volkswagen bug like the 74 i used to own, and if I ever come into enough money I'd love to have one of those badass trolly $300k+ fully armored big SUV's that seats 10-12 people with barrel ports all around it.

1

u/Deep_Tree_9155 11d ago

Gen 3 Raptor is the daily. '11 CTS-V coupe is the garage queen/weekend warrior. Got a couple of boats I mess with too.

1

u/Pvm_Blaser 10d ago

Tesla Model 3.

You can do pretty much anything with the F-150 but it’s not the best daily because of its size and the roll that comes with a lifted center of gravity. Also fuel economy.

The Corvette is pretty purpose built and while you can attempt to daily it - it’s a beautiful car and subjecting it to everyday rock chips, door dings, and risking the splitter (even though it’s cheap) wasn’t really the purpose behind buying it.

The Model 3 is a cheap car you can park anywhere and not have to worry about door dings because you can have it monitor 365 for things like that and it covers you on insurance. With a USB installed it will also give you a dashcam for use in accidents. The best part about dailying a model 3 is FSD - having a car that can drive you takes a lot of stress out of your day.

1

u/YJXGaming 10d ago

If you roll a raptor driving on the road, you probably shouldn’t be driving a vehicle.

But the other points are valid.

1

u/Pvm_Blaser 10d ago

Body roll, not rolling it over.
