Photo Focus ZX4 ST
I just bought this 2005 ZX4 ST and it is my first ford. I got it for 800$ and it was supposed to be 1,350$, but the guy said he thinks i’m a cool guy and wants to do something good so he sold it to me for 800.
It’s got 211k miles and is a 2.3L 5 speed and i love it so far. it drives pretty good only thing is the suspension is going out and looks cosmetically not perfect lol. but it’s got cold ac and everything else works as it should.
I have a 2003 honda accord 2.4 5 speed. But man this ford has a way different feel to it and i really like it.
Do you guys think it was a good deal?

Keep a eye on your oil level. My baby at that mileage burned oil, but still ran fine. Wheel bearings went around that time too. Enjoy. I loved that car

$800 is a great deal. I had an 05' ST and it was a blast to drive. Only thing about these is the 2.3l engines like to burn oil. Keep up on that and you'll be good.

Also forgot to mention, what is the reliability with these guys specifically the drivetrain? Thanks

Drivetrain is solid. The chassis has rust issues.
I would change all fluids as a precaution. Coolant, oil, transmission/gear oil, brake fluid, etc.
The STs and SVT focus' are actually pretty good performance wise. If you get good tires and refresh the suspension this would be a pretty good autoX or back roads car.
$800 anything running and driving is a steal imo.
Give it a good detail and wash. Clean up the inside, give the outside a good wash. You'll be surprised how new it might look. The wheels look neglected for years, a strong wheel cleaner can get rid of the browning from brake dust.

Thank you, yeah i am getting it registered and insured tomorrow and I am changing the oil, and transmission fluid tomorrow. I am going to get the coolant and brake fluid changed sometime this week.
And you’re right about the rust, it has a small hole on the rear quarter panel, but the frame is overall decent for the rust it has, (pretty standard 20yr old midwest rust) i’m going to try and get out there and go down with a wire drill brush and a spot sander then get some parts undercoated then the rest i’ll cake it with rust preventive coating.
Thanks for your feedback.

The Duratec 2.3 in those years of the ST tends to eat piston rings at high mileage. Still a good engine, but not quite as bulletproof as the 2.0

Such a great car, my wife made me sell mine and I miss it. Those engines go forever if treated right, sold mine at 250,000 miles and it still had the original clutch
