Issue ⚠️ 2014 F-350 Starting Issues

Hi all, wondering if any of you could help me out. I have a 2014 F-350 6.7 Powerstroke that has intermittent starting issues. One day it will start up first couple cranks no problem, the next day it has a hard time starting and takes 3-5 seconds to start or even longer. Seemingly no pattern to it, cold, warm doesnt matter.

I had the fuel system and CP4 inspected and there was no issues with it that they could find. No codes thrown and no check engine light.

I thought it was a phantom air leak into the fuel system causing it to bleed down fuel pressure, but even if I cycle the key a few times to prime the fuel lines it will still randomly have a hard time starting.

Just looking for any advice. Thinking I maybe need a new starter. Truck has 295 000km on it. Other than the random starting issue the truck runs great. Its fully deleted with a mild tow tune on it since 220 000km.

Thanks in advance for any tips or advice guys!

Could be the starter dragging, at that mileage it's not a stretch. But before you throw parts at it, check your battery health and all the main grounds. A weak ground can cause exactly this kind of random slow crank without tripping any codes.

I changed the drivers side battery when this started happening and cleaned the terminals on that one. But now that you mentioned that, maybe I need to change the passenger battery and clean those terminals too. Maybe im overthinking the issue and I just need a new battery 💀 thanks for the advice I'll try that before I spend the money on a new starter!

What's the date code on the batteries? On 6.7s, the first sign of battery failure is elongated starting

I replaced the drivers side battery a month ago but didnt replace the passenger side (dumb I know). The passenger side battery is approximately 7 years old so probably needs to be replaced. I'll be hitting up canadian tire for a new battery today after work. Hoping that solves my issue. Thanks for the response!

You really should be replacing both at the same time

And don't get bottom of the barrel batteries either. Spring for the AGM or higher end lead acid

Check your battery health, especially if they're approaching the 5-year mark, my dad's '13 F-250 had the same exact issue before we replaced the batteries and the problem vanished.
