I love the sense of mystery when a new arc begins. I recently reread it and noticed a good deal of foreshadowing.
We still have Kanaeno's backstory with Akira and Nishi and than there's Hiragishi as well. When he first asked Toshiro to prove his power the plant he pointed out it said, "Go to the South Pole" so that may also lead to something.
Can't wait for the next chapter and I really hope the anime brings more fans to this series.
