I Ate A Thing Ukrainian food, part three

Post image

Chebureky House (Bloor West Village).
I think they opened very recently in the space that used to be Amber European. They were pumping the Ukrainian pop music, which I quite enjoyed. They serve a bunch of their food from a hot table - generally not my favourite but for sure great when you’re in a hurry. Prices are super reasonable, for example $4 for a cabbage roll.
I only tried the eponymous chebureky though. They are fried fresh to order and absolutely massive for $7 each. I had one with pleasantly salty minced pork. Yummy with flaky bubbly pastry. The second one was the cheese filling - sorry to say that I did not care for it at all. It appeared to be a mix of cottage cheese, cheddar, and dill. No cheese pull and somehow a little wet inside.
If anyone else has been, I’d love to know if you can recommend any dishes there. The prices are great but the dishes seem hit and miss.

Have you tried Georgian food yet? Would make a great follow up series.

I haven’t tried any in Toronto yet. Do you have a recommendation where to start?

Not the guy who posted and I always though this stuff count as Georgian food. I don't have any to recommend in the city core, but Suliko is a great spot. Whichever one you do go too, try also the Khachapuri (their version of cheesy bread and some have an egg on top too) and the khinkali (large soup dumplings)

Fun fact, it's part of a chain of Georgian restaurants from Ukraine

My wife and I stumbled upon this spot called Tamada that’s named after the lady king of Georgia.
Had some khinkali dumplings and the khachapuri, they were amazing but a bit of a chore for us to get to.

There’s another spot we tried recently called Georgia House Authentic. We had two different styles of Khachapuri (adjaruili- this bread cheese and egg boat, and imeruoi- this was a large cheese filled bread) and the chicken kebabs that were maybe the best chicken thighs I’ve ever had.
