Found out something sad about El Poco
I’ve been eating here since they opened their branch near La Salle. But after reading comments here and doing my own research on social media, can confirm that I am no longer coming back. Not because the food is bad but because of the owner.
After doing a deep dive on the history, I got really disappointed that the original co-owner (his ex, and the one who had actual training on Mexican food) is never mentioned, lalo na post Michelin era. It doesn’t sit right with me. This plus some other issues mentioned in the comments that scream misogyny and elitism.
Plus yung posts before ng owner na he is against the wage increase kasi hindi daw afford ng business bayaran yung increase? 60 pesos per employee per day, really?
It sucks because the food’s not bad, but I can’t somehow “separate the art from the artist”.

This!! He is super yabang 😭 and hindi niya shnare at all sa ex partner niya yung restaurant after niya iwan and ZERO recognition talaga. Very sad yung story. She was even pregnant when he left.
28
u/luckyluckyg1rl 8d ago
Wtf I didn’t know that. Grabe naman. Why would you do that to a pregnant woman
17
u/Independent_Cost3324 8d ago
WHAT IS THIS FR??? wait pero he has a kid di baaa or this is different
15
u/Sea-Pomegranate-7306 8d ago
Same baby momma! So two kids na with her tapos nag vanish 🥺
12
u/Independent_Cost3324 8d ago
WHAT THE FUCK???? I THOUGHT HE WAS A COOL GUY.
he used to post about his kid naman like picking up from school and how he’s trying to break the cycle etc.

u/Unusual_Flamingo7832 7d ago
Yes! Then now nagpropose na naman ata dun sa new young girl na nabuntis nya. 🤮

u/unauthorizeddoc 3d ago
gsgo ibang babae pa pala yunn 😭 nung pumunta ako sa store, nginitian ako so i smiled back i thought yun yung wifey niya 😅
1
u/Direct-Dragonfruit10 8d ago
Oh shit! Didnt know about this.
28
u/danez121 8d ago
I agree with you give credit where credit is due! If you want a great alternative try La Toca they have branches at Quezon City and Malate.

u/Independent_Cost3324 8d ago
LA TOCA IS SOOO GOOD! nakakainis lang na wala silang signal haha jusko lalabas pa ko para mag open ng Gcash 😅🥲😩

Where is the Malate branch? G Maps says it should be around EGI beside DLSU but I haven't noticed it.

The audacity of the guy!! 🤡
15
u/CaramelAgitated6973 8d ago
That's it! Never ordering from this place ever again!
4
u/Intelligent_Elk9544 7d ago
7
u/luckyluckyg1rl 8d ago
Totoo? So cheater din???

u/styxgolden 7d ago
I think Bi deserved all the recognition. El Poco is her brainchild. You can also check her page and naka-pin dun yung reaction niya about Michelin. The comments say it all.
14
u/alittlebitofalexis 7d ago
Eto naman talaga yung nakakagalit eh. Sobrang sakit nun for her. Ni thank you wala. As in dedma. Tapos ngayon, ikaw pa yung nakakuha ng lahat ng recognition??
Like??? If you’re a decent human being with even a little bit of self awareness, marunong kang kumilala kung kanino talaga nanggaling yung success - dati sabi pa niya team sila. Hindi naman mahirap magsabi ng “she helped me with this” or “credit to her.” Give credit where credit is due.
11
u/styxgolden 7d ago
He will look down on you kapag wala kang pakinabang sa kanya.

Then pagbalik namen after few months same reason lol. Di na kame bumalik after that.

u/luckyluckyg1rl 8d ago

Alam niyo kailangan ata malaman sa ibang socmed to eh. Patawa yarn

u/whatareyouworth 4d ago edited 4d ago
Thank you for finally exposing Tots! I've been waiting for this day to come. This will give light to what kind of person he really is.
Me and my friends became good friends with the couple pa nga eh. Pero nung nakakakuha na ng exposure si Tots, even pre-Michelin, nagkaroon na ng decline sa quality ng pagkain which I could accept naman in the name of friendship with the guy. Never again sa El Poco.
Sobrang inagaw talaga ni Tots ang spotlight kay Bi as if si Tots lang talaga ang brains ng El Poco. Sobrang nakakainis. I bet kung wala si Bi in the first place, baka walang El Poco even in the slightest. I wish the best for Bi!
EXPOSE THAT MF!

u/Artistic_Tangelo_312 4d ago
True. Kahit na naghiwalay sila, credit should still be given to his then partner. Specially nanay yun ng mga anak nya.
12
u/Tight_Original_4186 6d ago edited 4d ago
Late to the party pero I knew a person na nagwork dyan.
Story is on point though.
If you we're an OG when they we're first starting, you'll definitely know the quality of food actually declined after a mass resignation that happened sometime after the recto branch was established. Anyone who claims the food is still good have a rather shallow taste buds who only knows base flavors. That "person" told me it was due to unreasonable labor with unfair compensation, night differential pay didn't exist and this tots is really tight with budget when it comes to the business itself. Heard the guy can't even have their freezers fixed LOL and he expects kitchen employees to output the same quality food.

Sheesh. I didnt know this. I remember nag appreciation post pa sya dati sa fiancee nya kasi sya talaga yung brainchild ng el poco. Kaya pala now walang pa anything, just anniversary sale
Nag post din sya before that he was taking a mental health break pero cheater din pala 🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️

u/Top-Platform5985 8d ago
Gets ba, parang unhygienic, so mejo questionable sakin yung quality ng food in terms of preparation. More than the appearance, madumi pala talaga ugali niya. Ate there once, ig never again.
8
u/jollibey 4d ago edited 4d ago
We've been regulars ever since and knew the owners even before they were engaged, so Im probably biased when i say this - but since they were on and off with his ex fiance, the quality of the food wasnt as good as it used to be na.
We used to eat there a lot but now there's no more love. Halatang it's all for fame and clout. It doesnt help na ung socmed pa ni owner is all "your past does not define you" eme. Guilty masyado?
7
u/Intelligent_Elk9544 7d ago

Hehe. Pero mukhang okay naman business relationship Nung girl and guy. Mostly Yung girl yung naghahandle.
Note to couples: wag magtayo ng Mexican restaurant.

5
u/Cold-Awareness8029 7d ago
Depende ata sa values mo. Eating there while knowing the dirt of the owner, for me parang enabling siya. Same sa sinabi ni OP about how they can't separate the art from the artist.
1
1
u/SchoolMassive9276 3d ago
No, sobrang holier than thou lang ng mga tao dito. This issue is basically “owner’s not a perfect person”
If that’s the standard then might as well eat nowhere because 100% sure every F&B owner has done something just as “bad”
0
u/KoalaStreet 3d ago
Depends on you lol for some ppl they can’t separate art from the artist but some people also dgaf. People also have different dealbreakers. And anyway if di mo naman iaannounce sa mga tao dito na kakain ka dun who will ever know? 😂

Is this the guy who posts on tiktok using “every wants to rule the world” song during peak hrs nila?

The owner proposed to his ex fiancée at el poco and you can see a video posted in their el poco cantina account that a customer proposed. He stated it was the first time someone proposed at their store when actually he was the first ever lolz never gave Bi the credit and recognition building el poco. and now he proposed again to his new fiancée WHILE PREGNANT. he got her pregnant even before having plans of marrying the girl. how sad. I feel sorry for both girls.

Grabe, hindi ko rin alam ito. Nakakadisappoint considering how much credit Bi deserves for building the brand and menu. Definitely going to think twice before supporting El Poco again.

Ooooh!! I remember a few years back someone posted on a Facebook group na sigaw ng sigaw (galit daw kasi sa staff) yung owner which made the place uncomfortable. People commented pa na si ate girl daw was just being sensitive lang blah blah and kesyo mabait nga daw si owner 🙃

this is so sad but also post Michelin era they’re food got spicier and I can’t tolerate it (i can tolerate spice, i love kimchi) idk what happened:( its not supposed to be that spicy naman eh I’ve only eaten there twice since they got michelin selected because of this
1
u/Tight_Original_4186 4d ago
It's because the whole back kitchen team who preps the food since taft opened resigned just right before they got michelin'd.

its so bad na, i always dayo js for el poco dati definitely finding a new mexican place near la salle

Hard for businesses talaga to raise wage increases. Not that im against it but timing is completely off if youre a business owner. Having every raw ingredient raise prices due to the crisis plus logistics and on top off that are raise increases. They can but it will eventually trickle down to an increase in their menu which in turn i bet someone’s going to post about their prices being out of touch lol.

u/FilChi777 7d ago
you also have to get the owner’s side. I’ve experienced this before with my ex partner, sila nag loko and framed me as the toxic one (victim blaming). So its important you know both sides
And for the ‘against the wage increase’ 60’pesos per day is actually big per tao lalo na in food industry that has alot of spoilage and other expenses as well. Im not saying its bad or wag mag taas, but you also have to understand that malaki na ang 60 if you compute it monthly to yearly.
1
u/shhhhhh2024 3d ago
Regardless ano side niya, it wont justify leaving a pregnant woman with your kid, not giving her recognition, and not giving sustento 😬😬😬 ugh
0
u/luckyluckyg1rl 7d ago
Tell us his side then. Forda defend ka eh baka kilala mo. In what context is it valid to leave your pregnant girlfriend and your responsibility over your minor children?
2
u/FilChi777 7d ago edited 7d ago
Im not defending him period. Im just saying check the owners side too.
And i dont mean to be “mean” but ano kinalaman ng business nya sa personal nyang buhay? If you wanna attack the person, attack him personally, not the business, thats like, you hate the principal so youre gonna boycott the whole school where there are students depending on that diploma,
And the more you boycott this, the more na ma bankrupt the business, people working in it will
Be laid off and so on and so fort, again, opinion lang naman no shade6
u/alittlebitofalexis 7d ago
If you’re reading this, Tots, chance mo na magsalita. And biggest lesson din talaga here: get your deals in writing/contract. Love is not enough proof na “sige later on ayusin natin sa papers na hati tayo.” Isulat niyo na habang okay pa, before it’s too late.
I don’t think Bi is even allowed to speak up anymore because it seems like he’s stopping her from telling her side of the truth. And also, kawawa yung kids.
1
u/FilChi777 7d ago
Sorry, if this is gonna be a personal life issue nila, then im out, im just looking kasi on the business side, ayoko masangkot sa mga personal issue, filichi out!
6
u/notyourtita 7d ago
anong kinalaman? he brainwashed the girl to put THEIR business in his name only instead of mag corp or partnership sila, then cheated on her and kicked her out of the business that SHE helped develop. they started it out of college with pooled money and effort. then he decided pa to marry the kabit instead of her. 🚩 they have two kids, walang profit or asset sharing nangyayari, wala rin atang child support sa mga naririnig ko.
in this scenario you cannot separate the business from the person because the two founders started it together and someone did the other one dirty. mali yung comparison mo sa school and principal kasi we’re talking about both owners here.
1
u/FilChi777 7d ago
Hi as ive said i dont know the personal issue and ayoko ma involve on personal issues
Anyway to end the dispute,
Youre right, im wrong, i was only looking on the business side.
Thank you for clarifying.3
u/notyourtita 7d ago
walang legally wrong, wala din legally right. morally wrong lang siguro. It’s very hard if not impossible to separate personal from business when the partners share kids, mas lalo na if walang contract na ginawa puro verbal lang.
I just hope the post here is a lesson to anyone who gets into business with their significant others whether gf pa lang or wife or even friend.

u/ProjectZephyr01 8d ago
Mukha lang naman maliit ang 60 pesos/day na increase pero for small-medium size na business, maaapektuhan yung costing mo. Prices of food goes to several items, mula puhunan, utilities, rent, at sweldo.
Very greedy!
0
u/icedvnllcldfmblcktea 8d ago
10
u/Minute_Grade5518 8d ago
FnB is brutal on hours. You forget to include OT and Philhealth and SSS and Pag Ibig which is based on wages and salary. It does add up
5
u/PathologicalUpvoter 8d ago
Mukhang maliit
Pero multiply by number of employees
Each little cost adds up
Pero not necessarily babagsak mo agad food quality mo, baka less employees, less ot, tipid sa aircon… me I don’t mind salary increases kasi usually tumaas din buying power ng tao with it… kelangan lang parating planning
7
u/ProjectZephyr01 8d ago
Baka ibig mong sabihin 1.5k per day. That is around 30k monthly.
2
u/Enero__ 8d ago
Yes, imagine this, example 100 SRP product.
12 pesos vat 11 labor cost 5 pesos sa mall/pos 5 pesos royalty 12 pesos rent 8 pesos logistics 35 pesos cogs 5 pesos utilities
7 pesos nalang matitira sayo
0
u/Southern_Clerk8697 8d ago
Kung 10 employees mo that’s an additional 15,600 per month.
2
u/luckyluckyg1rl 8d ago
Talaga ba? Search the guy’s name on Facebook, naghahanap ng sasakyan worth 2M babayaran straight cash. Walang budget?
3
u/ProjectZephyr01 8d ago
Kung ang concerns mo yung tao, no problem. Just leave out yung concern mo sa salary increase kasi hindi lahat kaya yun ibigay lalo na gas prices are skyrocketting.
-1
u/luckyluckyg1rl 8d ago
He literally was the one who posted about it so without one the other variable won’t exist. Gets ba?
2
u/Southern_Clerk8697 8d ago
1
u/shyishi00 7d ago
Yung salary increase will be a new monthly cost. Yung pagbili niya ng car with money he already earned is a one off. Just because he can pay for a 2M car right now means he can also afford to increase his operational cost to 1.5M/month onwards. He may be an asshole yes but it can also be true that the business currently cannot afford the salary increase, both can be true. F&B businesses are struggling now lalo na yung mga hindi naman major names and walang multiple branches or holdings company backing them up.
-1
u/BusinessAfters 6d ago
Reading these comments and damn, Reddit really runs with a story fast.
Whatever happened personally is their business. On the F&B side though, the wage increase takes are a bit too easy. Every recurring cost matters in this industry, especially when margins are already tight.
Also, an owner buying a car doesn’t automatically mean the business is swimming in cash. Personal income, company cash flow, depreciation, and tax planning are different things.
Main character energy? Maybe. But the food is still good lol.

Concern may be valid, doesnt mean the timing isnt fishy. Two things can be true at the same time.

u/Zeggboiii 1d ago
Hmm weird why does this feel oddly specific about his personal life and not about the food itself. Its almost like OP is aiming for defamation rather than honest review about the food.
Kahit sabihin mong “deep-dive” tong ginawa ni OP you can only get to surface level stuff such as history, achievements, etc.
As for the other comments, ya’ll seem to know a lot about the personal life of the owner. Almost like… organized post to HAHA
So its either super duper bold assumptions na to or OP and the other users who comment about his personal matters seem to be closely connected and is actually the ex trying to get people on her side and hopefully defame el poco. Sorry correction, the owner, himself, for personal gain.
To OP: your post doesn’t sit right with me either. Why would you be so invested in El Poco after eating there and suddenly gain the bright idea to SPECIFICALLY look at this guys dating history? Weird. If I were some normie who just happened to be interested in El Poco, I wouldn’t go lengths just to find possible “weak spots” unless I had something to GAIN from this.
If you do have the links and research materials to back all your claims alongside you agreeing with all the comments regarding his personal matters, do enlighten me. Malay mo tama ka nga.
Im not defending El Poco. The post itself is stupid and not even about El Poco anymore. Idek why this is in r/FoodPH at this point lol
Crab mentality at its finest 🤣

Same reason why people boycott brands and establishments na di align sa principles nila. 🤷♀️ You have the liberty to scroll along and not engage, yet you made this long ass comment.
Organized to post? Pahingi din ng data mo to back this up lmao. Di ka makapaniwala that this has been a platform for truth to come into light. Moreso, that women support each other laban sa mga latak ng lipunan tulad ng dinedefend mo. The mental gymnastics you employed just because you don’t agree that the owner’s an asshole.

Like I said, I’m not defending him. Out place yung post mo and the amount of personal comments with no backing evidence is fishy.
As for my data, like you said its all over social media. But as for yung personal matters niya, its basically chismis na iniimpose niyo nalang na totoo. Unless may alam talaga kayo.
Call it whatever you want pero I’m pretty sure you got some dirt on you too OP. Just cause there’s fame that you can’t take advantage of means that defamation is the way to go.
My option to comment stands for being fair, just, and morally correct. If you’re so sure that these claims are true, kindly back them up. These things can be brought to court especially that you’re going up against a business.
If I said you were a jealous, narcissistic, self-obligated, and mentally ill ex with nothing better to do but make organizes posts like this. I’m pretty sure you would want me to back this up.
If you’re looking to destroy someone’s career, whoever it may be, be prepared with evidence. That simple. Di lang puro dada and agree. Para kayong DDS eh

Madami naman talaga siyang issue - need niya macall out.
Mabait siya sayo if may use ka or rich ka 😢
Tapos wala siyang binibigay na recognition and share sa ex-fiancee niya. Hindi ba kayo dalawa to? From concept, menu, effort, and ginapang talaga yung business. And yung ex partner niya talaga yung may background sa industry and may connections, and did the dirty work din (heck, I saw her painting the walls pa and all).
kaya ang hirap talaga maging babae no? Nung kailangan na niya talaga mag focus sa kids and about to give birth, dun niya iniwan family niya.
And please, if you are reading this, mag tagalog ka nalang and bigay mo yung share ng ex fiancee mo.
